Why are ranks hidden now ?
Why having a rank system if you can't even see who you're vs'ing
Comments
-
Because people would dodge lobbies a lot more frequently if they knew they were playing with greens and yellows.
7 -
No, I mean at the end match screen. The ranks are hidden.

i was playing a game of myers today and when i got in aftergame chat i could not see the ranks of the survivors
i dont normally play myers so i was confused as to what was happening if their bots or something else, it really confused the hell out of me see picture

this is why
10 -
Because...
But the answer to this tweet is: an issue occured and the test is over.
3 -
Bold of you to assume that most of us haven’t already died inside.
9 -
Thanks, I knew there was something fishy !

Here's a picture for those wondering, as I was about to make a thread myself.

Here.

Apparently the ranking system is hidden and the lobbies are based on your skill rather than the rank, and the 'ranking' system is just an awarding system, the higher the rank, the more bloodpoints. You should give this a read https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/271612

The ranks are hidden cause they are expecting manny 1 sided matches, they said so already. So hidding ranks is la scapegoat.
4 -
Guess it's delayed but ranks still hidden.
1 -
It's currently a test, which is apparently disabled because there is an issue.
4 -
Yeah, I noticed that but thank you!

Better having the info twice than zero time! 😹
1 -
Wait, this is in the live game now? I played last night and didn’t see this.
There is zero reason to hide ranks after the match is over. Ok, not zero, the only reason I can think of is so people wouldn’t be able to complain about the terrible matchmaking any more.
5 -
OMG well played BHVR. Slick as hell. Maybe this ruse will help me cope with the SBMM…

Good ol' Bhvr.

Ranks are going to be hidden under the Skill Based Matchmaking test (as was always planned when the system goes live). It's actually a lot better to get feedback when ranks are hidden because Ranks are effectively meaningless for rating skill as the current ranking system is pretty much more about time.
Judge your matches by how they felt, how balanced they feel etc. Not going by the end result screen.
16 -
it is for the skill based match making test that just started today. This system is to try and match players together that are of similar skill level instead of using the emblem system for match making. The reason they are hiding ranks is because even though they clearly state the system isn't using emblem ranks to determine skill for match making, people still flood the forums with complaints about how it doesn't work because they were matched against people with large rank disparities.
So when you give feedback about your matches during the test, they want to know if you feel like the people you played with and/or against felt like they were of a similar skill level to you based on how the matches go.

MMhhh

But then, my following game had them? Did it bug out or something?
EDIT: Oh, Twitter says they've ran into issues or something. Well, it was an experience, I guess.
1 -
lol this game literally joke really, in instance they can change their decision and enable rank again haha. poor behaviour
2 -
I mean every time they test MMR and say ranks won't be used for matchmaking people start complaining that it's not working because the ranks are different
1 -
I suggested this after the last MMR test:
1 -
Yellow rank killers cannot complain anymore about going against red rank.
1 -
That's the point of hidding the ranks... Players can no longer blame matchmaking if there's no matchmaking. WE don't know how they are calculating MMR so we can't say how Matchmaking works so we can't blame matchmaking. But instead we will complain even more about Balance. IF BHVR doesn't Balance the game after MMR then there's no point to having MMR.
1 -
I'm so sad it's disabled I was so amped to start practicing all the killers I wanted outside the red zone, fix it Mandy turn it back on.
2 -
I really don't think we'd want me fixing things, it might never be able to be put right again...my talents definitely do not lie in those areas! :)
4 -
Just believe in yourself like I believe in you Mandy
1 -
I appreciate your faith in me <3
1 -
Any reason other than "to hide the evidence when the system doesn't work" is a straight up lie.
4 -
If you genuinely believe that I think the entire concept has completely gone over your head. The feedback needs to be based on your experience during the game and not your confirmation bias at the end of the match.
The sheer number of swf boosted people who I see in red ranks who do not belong there and do not perform like the rest of their team mates is insane and demonstrates really well how broken the current system is which is inherently unfair on the other survivors as they are playing a 3v1. Sure you might get a few spaghetti games while it settles but that is no different than placement matches in every single other online ranked system in every other game but DBD on the market.
2 -
The amount of people who say after each test "the ranks are all over the place" is exactly the reason why this change has been made. No other reason.
The Ranking system shows time put into the game, not skill so it's completely at odds to the SBMM and as such it makes sense to keep ranks hidden so we don't get the whole "I'm red rank but there's green ranks in my matches", as that feedback isn't helpful as it skews people's way of thinking and as we're looking for constructive feedback on the matchmaking it makes more sense to get the feedback without people having preconceived ideas about how their skill was judged/calculated.
4 -
any change sounds great, let's see how this plays out when it gets activated again 😊
Any ETA on the reactivation?
1 -
I don't have an ETA I'm afraid...as soon as I hear something, I will update this post.
0 -
No, but even in the announcement post that time played in a month is the biggest factor - which is why you can get Rank 17's who are great players but they don't play much so they're rank doesn't increase.
0 -
Then show the MMR ratings in the end game
2 -
The point is that rank isn't a marker of skill, and SBMM doesn't take rank into account.
Every test so far has been pointless because no matter how the game played everyone just looked at the ranks at the end, despite being told to ignore ranks for the sake of the test, and complained that the SBMM didn't work because they weren't equal ranks.
Ranks should have always been hidden during these tests.
1 -
The whole point of MMR is to be hidden so players can't work out the system and smurf.
1 -
So there's no way to know if you're "playing well", or to know if the system is working, other than trust the same devs that can't making a ####### chat filter. And your only reward for "improving" is progressively sweatier opponents? Sounds like a great incentive structure..
3 -
If you can't tell if you or your teammates/opponent are playing well simply from the experience of playing that game, then how are you able to judge the matchmaking either way? Are you just letting your rank tell you how good of a player you are?

Two things can be true at once.
From every test I've participated in so far:
1. The games have been horribly unbalanced.
2. The ranks have been all over the place.
You can absolutely tell the difference between rank 1 and rank 15-20 survivors 95% of the time. Either way, the ranks should be visible as a way to say "wow, I wouldn't have expected such a good match with these green rank teammates. great job MMR!", or, more likely in my experience, "oh, that's why no one saved me on first hook when I had kindred and the killer wasn't camping".
1 -
From every test I've participated in so far:
1. Games have been incredibly well balanced.
2. Ranks have been all over the place.
Your first example doesn't happen, because players are idiots and take rank over the actual game experience. And your second example is the entire ######### problem.

I bet that'll be irrelevant and people will figure out how to manipulate it in like 2 or 3 weeks
1 -
I remember when I was playing OW for a while and people complained a ton about two things:
1- Their MMR being hidden, and not being able to accurately gauge the balance of the match by being unable to see their teams and enemy teams combined MMR
2 - The inability to see what people were grouped together.
Then The OW team showed both. Would you like to take a guess what people will complain about here? People don't like when things are hidden like this, and they don't like not being able to chase a goal because it's invisible.
5 -
They are hidden because you should report how the game felt, not what ranks the players had. BHVR can check their logs to see the ranks in every match, it is not needed to report it in the forums.
0 -
Funny how people are saying we should ignore ranks and go by how the match felt, yet during the last test i was able to mostly predict the ranks of my teammates based on how the match felt.
1 -
I'm really glad bc during the last SBMM phase I played with a friend that always complained when going against red killers even when they weren't that good. So now I'm sure without seeing the rank she will still complain "Oh it probably was a red rank." Everyone just focused on the rank to provide feedback so this is a great change.
1 -
I've hit R1 on both sides and all, but I'm really looking forward to the removal of rankings.
The amount of topics/discussions/issues that get side-railed when people try to pull rank is unreal.
Try a new killer or fun build in the red ranks or have a bad game? - "LOL, THAT is a Rank 1 player? - Weak"
It's just one less metric for people to be toxic about.
