Why is Decisive Strike meta?
Before I began levelling up Laurie, every time I got tunnelled I was like "Damn, this is why DS is meta!"
Now that I have unlocked DS, I don't think I actually have even been able to use it, ever. It's either because the killer decided to tunnel me 61 seconds after I got unhooked because they didn't find me, or I touched a gen and forgot that it deactivates the perk.
Even if I was able to use it, I would use it a very little amount of times. It's such a situational perk that uses up a precious perk slot. Why is it meta?

It's a strong perk that's equipped "just in case", and it being meta provides a blanket protection against every survivor, if they are or aren't using DS. The introduction of a permanent Obsession means that a lot of killers are genuinely afraid of the DS and so are afraid to tunnel, so even survivors not using DS are protected by the mere existence of the perk.
Of course, if DS ever stopped being commonly used, then we'd return to tunnel city, like it was in matches without Obsessions beforehand.
This may sound weird, but you're getting more value out of DS when it's never used, than you would using it every game.

If the killer decided to tunnel you 61 seconds later, then you should have been well away to safety by then and not even needed DS. Unless for some reason you decided to stay by the hook for 60 seconds.

Because it prolongs chases. it doesn't matter if someone tunnels u or not, u can catch killer off guard because every killer assumes u have it.

Because there will be times where your teammates will screw you over, unhook you in front of the killer without BT, and the killer simply won't care and pick you up. DS may give you a second wind in such case. And the are many such cases, especially on solo.

Because eliminating one survivor quickly is the fastest way to stop the other three. Tunneling is not fun but often it is effective.

Yeah, I play mainly solo, so I run it every game. I just can't count on teammates making smart unhooks. And tunneling is becoming Meta as well, so best to be prepared.

After being unhooked, go stand near a gen that's almost done and let other survivors finish it. Then run to a locker when the killer comes, climb in. The killer will think you were working on the gen deactivating DS, so they'll grab you. You DS, and run away. It can be and is still abused (I mean if you're looking to get value from it)
Really, though, it's to save you when you get a sweaty killer which is often these days. Smart killers will avoid it, though.

I run it and see good value from it.
I also didn't respect it at all when I played Killer.

anti tunnel perk that stuns the killer for 5 seconds

I think since the creation of a permanent obsession in the match, the threat of DS has been very strong - probably stronger than the perk itself. I do run it on occasions, mostly when i've had a couple of matches where I've been tunnelled and wished I've had it...I then put it on for a few matches but must admit there's so many perks that I like to use, that I don't like sticking to just the same few perks and feeling that I have to run them.

Let's paint a picture
The best way for a killer to secure a big advantage in a match is getting someone killed off as soon as possible, as fast as possible. If decisive strike didn't exist, all survivors would have to help against tunnelling would be BT (Which, let's be fair - you can kind of counter by waiting out if you're nearby).
With no DS, there is NO risk to picking someone up who just got unhooked. Otz put it great in his video about Iron Will - DS, BT and Dead Hard condition how Killers play the game even when these perks aren't even in play. It's also clear that the developers recognise this because when DS got nerfed, they realised people might not run it as much so they made an obsession appear in every match regardless of perks.
Some ppl might not realise this but DS becomes its strongest in the endgame. It can create literal lose/lose scenarios for killer and guaranteed escapes for survivor.
On the flip side, eventually you will run into killers who plan to camp/tunnel someone out of the game the moment they can and DS will help mitigate that a little bit. If a killer wants you out, they will get you out eventually but every second you buy your team counts

DS doesn't work until you remove it from your load out then suddenly killers start tunneling you out haha.

That's like me with any perk, I always find I need it when I'm not running it!

Bit off topic but I just noticed the forum tag changes, have you been promoted?
Congratulations if so!

Thank you <3

The threat of DS is what makes the perk strong. If the perk was disabled for a week you'd see almost every killer hitting the person that just got out of the hook for the period.

I thought DS was trash? Did the community finally wise up?

I was confused for a second when I saw your tag being BHVR, but I get it now. Congratulations on the promotion!

Bc the easiest way for the killer to win is to get someone out of the game as soon as possible. 3 survivors are easier to juggle than 4. DS makes this take longer, making it a better have and not need than a need and not have perk. Plus it still feels great to hit that skill check and run.

I don't feel the need to run it but that becuase i rely more on the killers assuming i have it than actually running it.

I’m using it almost every match and it helps a lot!

Congrats - Stay safe :3
To contribute - DS is most powerful at the end game when there's not much to deactivate it....I usually try to save it unless I'm being hard tunneled.....60 seconds endgame is an ETERNITY

I never cared about using DS I've used it a few times in the past when I was a console player and it was like whatever to me. A couple months ago I got it on PC and at that point was just so used to not ever using it that when I do bring it I never get to use it. It's probably the most useless perk for me.

Decisive Strike isn't meta.
Tunneling and Camping are meta. Decisive Strike is an answer to Killer game play.

Same here, one time me and 2 of my fellow survivors were trapped in the basement being camped by you know who
are last team member runs down unhooks me and we both get downed. he hooks her first and it's at this moment that I realized if I had ds, I could have unhooked them with borrowed time and then dead hard past him. but I forgot DS and we all died on that sad day rotting on the hooks with grandma bubba nodding up and down chainsaw dashing in a circle around us

....which means it's meta.
