Anonymous Mode on Console
So, they just removed Anonymous Mode from console, despite it was working as intended, only because they didn't want us to have it? What am I missing here? I quit playing DBD on Xbox because of all the hateful messages I received from other players and got tired of cheaters/killer bots and for once Anonymous Mode actually made me want to play again. I just don't understand that if it was working without any bugs or issues, why remove it. Console players also stream and this just puts them off as well especially when people stream snipe. I would love to hear an explanation on why it was so important to remove it.

Based on the phrasing in the update, it seems like it was preventing people from using the platform-level blocking functionality, so removing it makes sense.
Is hiding your name not enough to stop the hateful messages, btw? Genuine question, I don't play on console.
3 -
I was able to block a user just fine yesterday. A survivor was acting foolish throughout the game and cost us the match. I blocked them with no issues.

Xbox is the same way. Plus, on Series X you can stream directly to Twitch since its built in. Who wants to be stream sniped on console while PC players don't have to deal with this anymore. I'm just done. Quit playing because of the toxic community. Came back when I heard Anonymous mode was working on console. Now that it's gone, I'm gone. I just can't deal with the messages telling me to off myself or making fun of what I look or sound like. It's not worth it.

So can we still hide our PlayStation names? I'm confused by how the patch notes are worded.

On Playstation you can just disable your messages so that only your friends can message you.
0 -
No its disabled. It was never intended for console apparently.
1 -
Yeah but I also play ESO and other games where I'm not friends with guild members and still need to have this functioning. It's either be open to all messages or only your friends or nobody. I'm not going to turn it off for one game. Plus, I wanted to get back into streaming my games but I guess I can't now.

Edit: Nvm, someone else clarified

Ohh ok.. that's unfortunate.

It was working perfectly fine for consoles
A lot of people stream on console as well, not just PC
Really sucks
13 -
the average streamer I see is a 60/40 split between pc and playstation, so I guess that sucks for the console streamers.

I'm not sure how they would be at risk of being reprimanded by Sony/XBox for allowing players to have their privacy and stop online bullying. I don't play Fortnite or Apex so I wouldn't know either how they're implemented but I did look up videos on Fortnite and it works so yeah, I don't know what the issue is.

We did attempt to explain the reasoning in the patch notes. This was not a feature that was able to go Live and it was implemented in error. Platform level features cannot be overturned, those must take priority and unfortunately the Anonymous Mode over rode these...which is why we needed to remove it from the other platforms other than Steam & Epic.
8 -
I guess I'm still confused. Does it still need to be tweaked or adjusted for consoles? Or was it just not as much of a priority compared to other content such as new killers, survivors and maps? If it's the latter, I would think stopping toxicity in the community, stopping stream sniping and allowing us to have our privacy would be at a higher priority. But if it's because there are adjustments to be made, or even gathering data to ensure it's working as intended, I can understand. But it feels like PC players get the upper hand on this so any clarification other than telling us we aren't intended to have it right now would be useful. Especially since it was accidently given to us to begin with.
Hopefully my inquiry makes sense. Itsnjust frustrating because I had to quit playing after constantly being sent messages to off myself. I love this game and the only thing keeping from playing is the bullying. I hope thus makes sense and I hope to understand your judgement.
2 -
as I tried to explain in my initial comment this is to do with over riding platform level features, which is something we cannot do. This is absolutely nothing to do with priority.
3 -
Okay, I think Bloodshade connected the dots here which now makes sense to what you're saying. I actually can understand that. For some reason I was thinking platform = the game, not the systems the game is played on. My apologies. It makes more sense now.
2 -
Thanks. This makes more sense now.

Are there plans to get it working for console? Because PlayStation and Xbox users can't just change their names like Steam and Epic and even Switch can. Anonymous Mode was amazing. I didn't have to worry that I ticked off one of my teammates by doing something like cleansing dull totems or escaping when they didn't. My friend pays attention in lobbies for names he remembers because that's a bad thing, it means they seem to have a grudge for some unknown reason, but I didn't have to care with Anonymous Mode on.
I'm sure there were a lot of PlayStation users who were happy at the chance to turn their messages back on, too. I turned off messages and friend requests a long time ago specifically because of DbD.
If console isn't getting Anonymous Mode, then cross-progression really needs to be a thing so that those of us who want to use these features can move over to Steam or Epic.

Based on what Mandy said, I assume they're going to need approval from each platform to implement these since they edit platform level features. I also think they'd need that for cross-progression as well, although I'm not 100% sure on that one.

I told you they would remove it. I am only surprised it took this long.
0 -
Yeah, but we don't know, which is why I asked. I try to never assume with BHVR and their intentions.
Not that an answer necessarily matters, anyway. Whenever asked BHVR says Switch cross-progression is still "being worked on," but I don't expect it to ever happen. That was dead in the water the moment they said there's no longer an ETA.
2 -
This.
Honestly it's such a bummer that Steam players that can just change their names get an anonymous mode while us console players are stuck being harassed by others in the community. They should've waited until this feature was available to everyone because it's just frustrating as console player to see yet again PC getting features we have to miss out on.
6 -
The outlined reasons are hogwash, plain and simple! I don't know about the other platforms but on PlayStation if you block someone, the only thing they can't do is send you messages, you can still be match made with and against them. Also, PlayStation doesn't allow you to report for in-game behavior issues, they tell you to report that using in-game tools. So these reasons at least for PlayStation are nonsense! If you're hacking or causing trouble or griefing or a troll in the game, you should be reporting in game anyway!
6 -
I liked having it because it stopped stream sniping dead in its tracks. My average views went down but it was worth it. No more random views that showed up at the start of the match and then gone as soon as the match was over. That completely stopped. Also stopped getting the touch grass bs hate mail for my prestige level. As if people can't like this game.
Also in game console reporting is too annoying to bother.

Wanna be toxic? Just change your Steam name every single time you play DBD, use a VPN or if you don't feel like it just turn on all the new easily accessible features to hide yourself in-game. Wanna stop getting stream sniped, hatemail, or (insert the other valid reasons for wanting all the names hidden) on console? Nah, you're a second hand citizen in DBD
No FOV slider while playing against kids with 10,000 nvidia filters and stretch res pre-fix, aim-dressing that happens way more than it does on MKB PC, endless optimization issues over the years even on the latest systems, no cross-progression so you're forced to cope
I started playing DBD on Steam before switching when the Xbox version came out to play with friends so I've always owned both but its definitely still upsetting when this feature finally comes to the game and we once again get to stare at the bones of the tomahawk steaks that PC players get. I can't stand not being able to use all the stuff I've purchased in the past year on my Steam account, I would've BEEN playing on there instead of Xbox now that crossplay exists (I still do play on Steam but its not the same. It doesn't feel fun having two separate sets of cosmetics, perks and characters available)

What platform level features was it overriding? Blocking in psn or in game does nothing to prevent you from matching up with them again (at least if they're also on PSN). If they're anon and they send you a hate message then you immediately know their PSN and can still block/report them. If they dont message then no need to block. If you wanted to block cause they do crappy things in game well you never could block them to never get them again anyway.
I realize you say platform level features did this, but cheaters are way more prevalent on PC and they get anon mode now? How do you report them on PC if they're cheating and anon?
3 -
With the way the devs react to things like taking away the Bubba skins because of harassment its extremely surprising that they'd do this knowing people are being bullied and harrass. It almost seems like they don't really care.

If they accidentally implemented the anonymous feature in the console version, don't you think they would have noticed it at least 3 days after that patch note? And couldn't they have disseminated it via official Twitter, etc.? I would like to know the difference between when the kill switch is applied and when it is not.
I couldn't help but have my doubts. Even if you stop the anonymous feature from the console version, the scammers using the anonymous feature are still on the PC version.

Same

Next Q&A we should ask if and when this mode could be re-added for console.
1 -
Right there with ya, I just turn my messages to "friends only" when I play DBD, it's just a band aid but atleast then I can play the game
Aw crappie now I've said that they'll add in game chat on console...

They really should bring anonymous mode to consoles back. But unless people message them asking for it to come back they won’t. I enjoyed having it on console I wasn’t targeted by angry players and didn’t receive insane messages. I would love to play this again but sense they removed it from everyone but steam I just felt that was unfair and didn’t feel like supporting them til it came back.
2 -
We can just message them I did it and they replied back with excuses but I bet if a lot more people got involved they would reconsider
2 -
I really don't understand why it was removed from console. I feel like its more of a threat on PC with all the hackers.
2 -
You're seriously tired of "hateful messages on consoles"... You can't get them anymore, its 2022. If you see a message that is even mildy offensive, you report it and the sender will get a ban.
0 -
Not how it works my guy
2 -
I really don't want it back on console.
It ######### sucked for me. There's a lot of people I need to avoid and when Anonymous Mode was on, it was hell and I couldn't play DBD.
0 -
Thats exactly how it works. Report the message they sent you. They will get a ban. Im not talking about the DBDs report system.
0 -
I can give you any number of screenshots that people DIDN'T get banned from.
1 -
I legitimately want to see those screenshots.
0 -
I figure telling someone to kill themselves is fairly against the rules. No ban.
This guy who DDoS'd me for multiple hours. No ban. Funny story about him tho. He tried to hit someone off who lived on a military base, apparently. Turns out, the military gives a ######### about that and prosecuted him. Heard through the grapevine, so take it with a grain of salt.
They kept going for flashlight saves and DC'd after I downed a guy who got unhooked with BT. I didn't even pick them up. Spammed me with invites and messages.
So as you can clearly see, there are ways to get around the system and Xbox doesn't really give a ######### about it. I think I have more but I'd actually have to look for them and I don't really feel like doing that right now.
3 -
Dang do you really have that many enemies on the game?
1 -
Pissed off a clan of booters. There's about twenty of them and they have access to good software.
Only thing I can do is lobby dodge them and hope they didn't have time to notice me either as Killer or Survivor.
0 -
I havent used xbox ever. Only ps4. Very recently moved to PC though. Those "offensive" messages, Im a little suprised they didnt get a ban. They seem like they're right on the verge of a ban. Admitting ddos wont get you banned I think, only "offensive" messages. That last one would definitely have gotten like a 7 days ban on PSN. Those first two Im not sure.
0 -
These were ones where I went out of my way to try to send screenshots to Xbox to get them reviewed by an actual person.
No luck, they said they didn't technically break any rules.
0 -
I get the image that ps4 is way different in this category compared to xbox then. Because I swear those people would have gotten a ban just by pressing the report button on PSN.
0 -
I wouldn't know. I've never used Playstation before.
1 -
What servers are you on?
0 -
NA East
0 -
Ah ok I thought you might have been on the EU servers because I know of a similar bunch of people who have made a few enemies.
