Forum comments disappearing.
Has anyone noticed a lot of comments on threads are disappearing? I've tried to view replies to my comments and had an error message saying the comment no longer exists.
Was revisting a thread earlier and found one of my comments in thebthread had totally disappeared too.
Anyone else had this at all?

It happens from time to time. Not only to comments or threads, but also to people. It's probably the Fog ;)

The Entity claim another?

More than likely the moderators, not a bug.

Yep, happens all the time. Most likely a moderator didn't like your comment or the entire thread was removed.

It happens. I've had a few comments I've left that have disappeared. I read through the rules each time, to see if I said anything that was against them but can never pick it. I just assume my comment was maybe skating the line so the mods removed it.

the automated system removes things if it thinks it's spam. this can be caused by new accounts posting rapidly.
mods remove confrontational posts and posts with leaks. leaks should be obvious, but posts that are confrontational might be harder to identify and subject to opinions.
comments that are abusive are also removed.
sometimes a post gets moved and it messes with the responses
things like that.

If your comment gets deleted because you broke a rule you will get a private message with the appropriate info from the mod.
sometimes, maybe a quoted message got deleted/changed though then usually that just gets edited out from your post.
also for posts from new users with few post counts, comments might get shoved into the spam filter (when they edit it or post often in a short time) then a mod needs to manually approve those comments

It's weird. Usually if a post gets deleted on a forum there's still evidence it was there, and you usually get mods messaging you warning about breaking the rules.
The comment of mine that got removed wasn't anything I'd have expected to be against forum rules, confrontational or anything.

not necessarily, the mods will often delete a comment that's on the line or if it's quoting someone that's broken the rules..without notifying the user, there's simply not enough time for the mods to notify everyone of a comment that's been deleted. We rely on users to be understanding and to consider why their comment was deleted in the context of our forum rules.

mods remove and edit (without marking the edit) user posts all the time. on a bigger dbd discord you can bet (for fame) on when a post gets deleted, moved or edited.

The edit is always marked. I regularly see Rizzo tidying up mine. XD
But the fact that there's a DBD Discord that's gossiping about forums posts is a little concerning...

not all edit's get marked, i can tell you by personal experience.

They're automatically marked by the system. If they're made within a short time (I think about 10-15 minutes), it's a white note at the top of the post, though this doesn't indicate the user who edited. If they're made after this time, it's a red note at the bottom of the post, and indicates the user who edited it.

I want to know more. Specifically have any of my posts been mentioned.

There are multiple reasons why a comment "disappears":
- Your account is not verified (low post count) and when you edit or post too often, the spam filter stops those comments and we have to manually approve them (which can take some time, but we try to do that as quickly as possible)
- Your comment broke the rules (but in that case you receive a warning, so you would be notified)
- As Mandy mentioned, your comment was on the line, not enough to be warned for, but enough to require a delete. I try to contact people when I delete comments, but it happens that we have a busy day and we are not able to contact everyone
- Your comment was quoting a post that ended up being deleted for breaking the rules. We try to edit where possible if the comment still makes sense without the quote, but if it doesn't we just remove it
Regarding the edit, we cannot decide to mark something as edit, it's an automated system, once we edit you will see at the bottom of the comment in red "Edited by...". Sometimes this doesn't happen, but you will still see the text "edited" at the top of the comment, just below your name, like this:
I hope this clarifies the situation and if you have any doubts when one of your posts doesn't show up, feel free to contact me or another moderator (not Mandy, please, she is not a moderator and has her job to do, let's not slow her down, thank you).
