Why is Lights Out only limited time?
Why create new and fresh concepts just to only use it for a week and then go back to normalcy? Why not just keep the game mode to give more options? This games not small enough to where splitting queues should be an issue, so why not just keep the game mode? I don't think people are going to fret too much if there's balance issues, and if there are, you can just go back to the base gameplay. What are thoughts on this?

Testing the waters I guess.
I'm bummed cause Ima miss the whole thing... so I would like to see a month long extension π

Man that's a bummer, hopefully they extend it or bring it back soon (or just make it permanent lol), I always love when they shake the game up.

I get them doing it a limited time to test it out - but for only a week? That's way too short. PTBs last longer than that. At minimum it should have been a month. Then we have to wait 2-3 chapters later for a different one that's probably going to last for a week too. Again, I get excited by something BHVR announces and then the disappointment sets in. When will I learn?

Given that the entire gimmick is Dredge's power but with no items, perks, or offerings. I doubt many people will still want to play the mode by the end of the week after the novelty wears off.
I fully expect to see many complaints on the forums within the day about the issues of a new mode
2 -
Presumably until they get the formula of extra modes down they will always be limited time
I bet in 2 years we will always have side modes

Probably a test run. However I do agree, 'splitting the playerbase' isn't a problem & hasn't been for years. Hopefully the game mode is successful & if it is, maybe they'll extend it or bring it back more often.

Wait really? Why?
Are they really creating fomo on game modes? What's next make it a feature you'll have to pay for?! sigh

*2v8 game mode sold separately*

That's inevitable. God himself could balance DbD and people would still complain.
1 -
I expect it to end up being rotational once we get more modifiers in the game.

I think, but donβt know for sure, most multiplayer games do limited time modes so they donβt take away from the core gameβs matchmaking too much. It also can attract more people to come and play at certain times

It's only 4 maps, people will get bored of it pretty quickly.
2 -
They'd need time, money, and manpower to maintain two different modes of gameplay long term. Better to test it out for a week first.
1 -
What I want to know is if there is any incentive to playing besides the archive. If it's the same earnings I get from a normal lobby I don't feel the need to play it.
2 -
lmao!
Jokes aside, I do see it becoming an actual possibility though π

I would give something similar mode years ago as a Hardcore mode. Since it is. People could still play what they want.

I assume the plan will be to develop other time limited modes like this that will return every so often in between tomes and events. Just to keep players coming back to the game whenever there's a couple of weeks lull between new content.
I think it will be a fun mode, but I can see the novelty wearing off fairly quickly.

This is our first modifier, so we're still experimenting to find what works best. There's a couple reasons why it's only available for a limited time, but a big one is to help get matches going in the modifier. If it were available permanently, there would eventually come a point where the novelty wears off for many people and they move on, leading to extremely long queue times for the few people who still want to play it. Like an event, we'd like for modifiers to be fun things that pop up from time to time that people are excited to take part in.
There will be more modifiers in the future, though, and it's not out of the question that popular modes could return in the future. Any feedback is welcome!

Thank you for the response! Definitely makes sense and I follow your guysβ logic on making it limited time.
My only suggestion for future modifiers like this is that one week is too short for something as fresh as this. There are a lot of people who donβt check socials or updates too regularly and might completely miss this event before itβs too late (or be out of town like @UndeddJester mentioned above). I hope for the future as these become more common and you guys gain your footing, they become a mainstay in the game. It would be fantastic to have consistent options for game modes (still praying on 2v8 π).

Hopefully 5 v 5 is next. Make killers and survivors together, nobody can complain about any balance issue since you have both roles in your team

Once you get a few modes that exist, please just have it be a rotating mode that is always available at all times. Like, every week we get a new mode, and it rotates in and out what it is, so that there is always some fun mode to play outside of regular queues.
Then if you make a new mode and people don't like it, you can easily take it out, tweak it and rotate it back in a couple months later, or take it out of the rotation completely.

Question, can we expect modfiers to become a rotational thing once we have enough in the game?
Also can we at some point have every modifier be available at all times in custom games?
3 -
why not do the ptb method? keep it up until the player count drops?
then you can announce in game that the game mode is leaving after the next weekend and then it goes.
1 week is too short.

Whatever that is, or whether I miss the gameplay point of this mode, the "experiment" menu is super welcomed and great. The more, the merrier.
I don't think it should be limited to "new-super-elaborate-gameplay-mode", some things like "no-lullaby-onryo-mode-test" would be very appreciated too, you know :)

You're not missing out. This mode is ridiculously unfun for both sides.

I don't think this game has a large enough player base to have multiple game modes. These modes being temporary seems right to me, this way you can keep interest in them.
0 -
Yes hopefully and they can improve those mods as well. Like they will take feedback and hopefully they will make them better for everyone.
Like Snowman event for an example. First year, it was survivorside. Later it turned killerside. But last year, we had best snowman event and i honestly enjoyed so much.

Please please please leave the game mode in π

Would it be better with snowskulls? ππππ
0 -
It would, snowskull fights were great.
1 -
I expect them to do exactly that. At least would make most sense
0 -
And another reason why its here for such a short time is the reality that most of the player base hates it already and we're on only day 2
0 -
That's not likely, considering how the forums look now...

"Splitting queues isn't a problem."
Meanwhile; the 10 minute queue to play lights out on the first day.

If 5v5 does get introduced it better stay around for way longer than a week. Something like that would be worthy of a permanent game mode imo. If it were only around for a week or two that would actually make me pretty mad.
1 -
Damn, are some people already experiencing that long of waits? I donβt think any of mine were longer than about 2 minutes last night.

Killer queue can be a bit long sometimes.

I'm so bummed, only got the chance to play couple matches, but failed to realize it was only one week.
So when I got time for dbd again, it was gone... and I almost unistalled when I realized I also missed the trapper shadow banner...
