why was the PTB change that made every killer client sided get reverted?
on the chorus of sin ptb every killer felt incredibly smooth and responsive to play, and killers heavily impacted by inconsistent ping(ghoul namely) were instantly fixed because of this change, everyone who noticed it voiced their excitement and praise for the change, and mandy herself was asked about the change was said "thats what we wanted to hear" and on the live patch released today it just didnt get released? why would that be? why would a change so universally praised not be shipped?

I would assume its harder to implement into the live game rather than test servers. It could possibly be introduced in the mid season patch?
-4 -
Didn't it break Wesker even more though? Or was that something else
-1 -
it didnt break wesker no, wesker is just currently to my knowledge the only killer who is already client checked before the server, and he got swapped to being server detected first, and this didnt do much other then make his grab detection feel a bit different, and with that in mind, wesker feels the way he does now because hes client sided, and felt worse because he was server sided, now every killer feels worse again because they reverted the change.

Thats…..not how software engineering works.
6 -
It probably wasn't ready for release yet
1 -
I see. Thank you for the explanation
-1 -
I am but a humble servant to the machines, I know nothing of their mechanisms.
4 -
I would really like to see the responsiveness improvements restored, Survivor AND killer felt significantly more fun on ptb.

making killer powers purely client sided would open up even more ways to exploit the game.
what they truly need to do is handle everything server sided while at the same time introducing a proper client prediction. as the name suggests it predicts the behavior of e.g. killer powers on the client which will offer the smoothness you talked about as well as keeping the game safe(ish) from bad actors, since the server could correct an illegal action / move.
7 -
i feel like the impression that it would open the game to exploitation is a big assumption not based on much beyond over caution, and diminishes the issues the ptb solved
-4 -
Yeah if they make it client sided then the game will be very easy to exploit, it needs more server checks, shouldnt trust the client at all. Most of the problems because the game too trusting, and barely any server sided check
1 -
a massive part of it yes!
-5 -
this is a nice response but can you elaborate? why could this not have applied to every other killer except wesker?
3 -
networking takes place on an entirely different layer than gameplay.
the issues you mentioned would indeed be solved and my suggestions have nothing to do with overcaution, they're the absolute basic concepts of a proper multiplayer game.

every killer power and their m1 attacks should be not client sided, because m1 attacks are instant now and with higher ping they can get unfair hits (like basekit coup perk), also Weskers should also be server sided since some players were using exploits with his power grabing u from miles away
4 -
they are over caution because we already have cheaters teleporting across the map, killing people on first hook, killer bots, i versed a slinger who was blatantly aimbotting, what instance of cheating would become noticeably worse because the client holds priority?
0 -
these exact issues are the result of those specific actions being client sided as well as the server blindly accepting any player origin that's being set by a malicious client. killer bots and aimbots are a different can of worms though.
i've written a post about that here
0 -
you only showed survivor example there, killers have much more stronger cheats since most of their stuff is client sided (like Wesker) and they can beat cheating survivor with no problem
-1 -
that doesnt change anything, whether its survivors abusing e.g. infinite head ons or a wesker grabbing you from across the map simply doesnt matter. neither of those would be remotely possible if the server held authority over all players.
1 -
if they do everything server sided it will mess up the game Mandy mentioned about above Weskers problem with it, they should fully recode the game and they sync with server, rn most exploits got patched like they did with insta gens, I heard cheaters recently saying that most things got patched like insta gens, speedhacks, no need to always post about it since devs always find a way to patch them and issue bans, have some patience…

every killer with the exception of wesker is server sided, so i have no clue what you mean with this, how can these issues be caused by something that isnt in the game.
2 -
hook stages, status effects, player position (and way too much more) are handled on the clients and are independent of killer powers.
what you're referring to with "every killer with the exception of wesker is server sided" simply means that all killer powers are server sided except for wesker.
-1 -
you just proved my point more then your own.
1 -
I suggest you read my replies once more and try to understand what I’m talking about.
-2 -
Unfortunately there were some side effects that warranted the change, there was no change specifically to Ghoul in the PTB that was a happy side effect, unfortunately there were some pretty significant downsides for Wesker, which meant dialing things back.
2 -
All killers should be server sided im not quite understanding and didn't notice a difference in ptb.
from my understanding "Killer client sided" means that the killer would get hit priority even if killer had 200 ping because its prioritizing what the killer sees rather then what the server sees.
I would rather a ghoul with 200 ping not get a hit he dont deserve rather then get it because its taking the guy with 200 ping priority over one with 20 ping.
I want the hits to be checked with server so people with bad ping are not being rewarded in game on either side.2 -
I think this change will make survivor's experience much worse, vpn killers and hackers get more reward.
3 -
can you comment on if the change will come back? it positively effected literally every killer in the game with the exception of wesker, could he have not been the soul exception? because powers feeling unresponsive because of ping is definitely an issue and this change solved it, surely we wouldnt just scrap it?
1 -
you arent understanding the change
0 -
What are the changes then because from your intital post it reads as if killers like ghoul are gonna have a easier time getting hits with inconsistent ping (aka bad ping) because it was killer client sided.
I dont think im only one reading it that way.
I say in post i dont quite understand 😅1 -
Would it make killers who use mcdonald's wifi even bigger problem. Like even now killer with very high ping gets favoured and hits you from miles away.
5 -
I know my other comment wasn't directed at you, but it is relevant. Because THAT is how software engineering works.
Its likely a systemic change and not something tied to specific killers, thus not possible to ship with only some killers.

Is there a dedicated patch planned to address the ongoing Wesker bugs? I'm specifically referring to the bugs compiled in the linked reddit post. Additionally, though I expect the answer is likely no, is there any chance of rolling Wesker back to his state in patch 9.4.0, before all these bugs began and he was fluent to play?
https://www.reddit.com/r/deadbydaylight/comments/1vg4905/a_call_for_help_from_the_wesker_community_5/0 -
Also the issue which this post talks about did go live, at least for wesker because the bug which makes his power disable after grabbing survivor on the killer screen and nothing happening is present in the current 10.1.0 live release

there was nothing in the PTB that affected every killer - I am not sure where that's coming from, as we did nothing on our side for that and we have not reverted anything that impacted other killers, Wesker bug fixes that sidely affected Ghoul aside, and those could in no way impact other killers outside of those two.
It is complete misinformation that we changed netcode for the killers in the PTB.
2 -
there absolutely was something on the ptb that effected every killer and their input, ghoul worked on over 100 ping, every single killer player mentioned their own killers feeling better with faster inputs, implying that nothing was reverted, or that something was different on the ptb then on the current build of the live game is baffling to say the least.
even still, is the change to wesker, that effected ghoul ever coming back or is it being scrapped? because wesker on live still functions differently, so if hes still not working, and ghoul did, i dont really see why the change shouldnt be pushed forward soon.
0 -
For right now no there's no plans to go back to that PTB version with Wesker given the further problems it caused.
What you might have been noticing on the PTB is just the PTB can often be smoother overall - quite a few people notice this in many PTB's, given less player numbers etc. Definitely there was nothing for the killers and input controls or netcode.
2 -
I don't think killers with high ping need further advantages.
0 -
the issue is it wasnt just me, it was alot of other people all noticing different killers felt smoother to play, i dont think that was mass placebo, and kaneki verifiably functioned on ping above 40. i think that should absolutely be a priority to return sooner then later.
-1 -
Except there's plenty of people talking about how there was something up with the PTB in terms of making other Killers feel generally better to play, (https://x.com/NuclearFungus/status/2092409815003975803?s=20) and video evidence of this too, although this clip is of Kaneki, I don't really think "PTB has less people therefore better connection" explains Kaneki being able to pull off things typically only doable on 30ms or lower in matches with 100ms ping.. (https://x.com/Cykosu/status/2085094946332369214?s=20). Not to mention this Live Update still has Wesker bugged and has other Killers (some mentioned in the first tweet I linked) losing mechanics of their power, such as Pyramid Head not being able to flick anymore. on top of the live release currently having stuttering issues and generally higher ping. and if this was a PTB thing, why was it so much better for this one, but not other PTBs? why were other PTBs servers not as noticeably better to play on previously? So many people noticed improvements in this PTB where they've never noticed in previous PTBs.
2 -
but m1 hits and some powers can get you hits thanks to ping which is still an issue like Krasue hitting you after being behind a wall so it's still not fixed and can be abused
1 -
Less players on ptb, so its much smoother experience. The servers are struggling with regular load i suppose
0 -
except that just isnt the case as everyone i know tests their killers on ptb to see if theres any bugs or issues and they didnt say anything similar to this on any other ptb, kaneki worked on over 100 ping which has never over the course of his existence been the case, and thats just one example, the ptb having a lighter load is not the issue
0 -
Kaneki was special case, as I already explained.
0 -
and as i mentioned in the post several times ghoul was just the most obvious example. im not really understanding the miscommunication going on from that front. every killer with a mechanical input has less input delay, artist, billy, unknown, what have you.
it's also just not really clicking that ghoul was fixed because as a result of a wesker change, when wesker released with the same issues he had on ptb. → source
https://x.com/Zyrav_/status/2092949176405406042?s=20
so, again, i just dont really understand how this supposed wesker change had positive effects elsewhere in the game, but had negative effects for wesker himself, therefore the change gets "dialed back" and on the live version of the game, all of the positive things are completely gone, while wesker himself retained all the issues that weren't meant to go live.
