Infinite loading screens

About those infinite loading screens;

I always had the impression that the infinite loading screen bug happens due to Survivors disconnecting / crashing during the loading screen, causing the game to wait for the disconnected player to load, which will obviously never happen. After a few minutes the game seems to recognize the player is missing and loads in the remaining players.

I sometimes go through those "infinite" loading screens and after a while I end up in a 3 / 2 / 1v1 (or disconnected from host when the Killer leaves).

So I came to the conclusion that they're caused by players already disconnecting DURING the loading screen. Am I wrong? It seems like when people "lose connection" during loading, the game takes forever to recognize it which results in almost endless loading screens for the remaining players.

    I think you're getting cause and effect backwards. I think one player's game hangs, resulting in the infinite loading screen. Once they close their game (which you then see as a disconnect during the loading screen), that's when the game actually loads.

    @Orion

    That's what I mean. People crash / disconnect / forcefully close the game and the result is that the game takes forever to load. It's not something caused by the game but by the players connecting.

    I'm saying it's the reverse, that one person's game won't load, despite still being open, and it's only when they close it that everything is fixed.

    If you forcefully close the game the others dont have to wait that long.

    Basically, for Infinite Loading Screens, one player gets it. And as long as this player does not close the game, the game will not start.

    When I play with my friend, we clearly know when one of us has it (most likely he, when I crash out, my whole game crashed). It loaded a bit on my site, the bar on his site did not load at all. So he is in an infinite Loading Screen, meaning that he has to close his game.

    So basically what Orion said.

    No, the infinite loading screens are the same as the game crash. I know it cause my game crash and infinite loading a lot, more crashes than infinite loading but its all about the game, i don't know why but some process corrupt the game and make him crash or don't load to the game.

    So if I play with a friend and they forcefully pull the plug during the loading screen it won't cause an infinite loading screen? I don't think that's the case but I haven't had the chance to test it - but that's what I meant.

    If a player loses the connection to the host (for whatever reason) it causes an infinite loading screen. I suppose crashes are excluded from that, I already noticed that aswell.

    This would mean it's not really game related (or not exclusively) but can actually be done forcefully to piss off the other players.

    For some reasons for me if I'm alt tabbed while the offerings disappear and the game begins loading it's extremely likely that the game will just stop responding for no reasons... And that's really a pain in the arse

    Exactly this, can confirm that by random tests with friends.

    No, that wouldn't cause it. An infinite loading screen is when one person's game completely locks up. Only when that person closes the game through the task manager will it finish loading for everyone else.

    Pulling the plug could cause a slightly longer loading time as the game attempts to reconnect that player, but if it can't reconnect after a short amount of time, it will cut them out of the match and start without them. Even so, we're talking about a few seconds, not a significant amount of time.
