Colour palette practice - Requests

Hi everyone. As I'm coming to the end of my other thread for character headcanons (feel free to still suggest on there I'm just saying I'm up to the last request so far/up to date https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/63987/character-interaction-headcanons)

I was thinking of another challenge to developing art ability, I'm trying to learn colour theory next and as a result I feel like I'm restricting myself with my colour palettes I want to try something really challenging and different and hopefully learn from it.

As a result I've decided to try a colour palette request/challenge (you should be familiar with these if you followed artists on tumblr years ago like I did as a teen 😂)

I've chosen 3 palettes below (did not create them but finding the original creator is hard for some due to the sharing nature of these, all credit to the original creators for the palettes though) and want to open up for people to request a dbd character (killer/survivor etc) and an associated palette (please put character and palette letter A,B or C and the associated title/number of the palette you want).

I make no promises on timeframes as I work everyday and actually play dbd occasionally big surprise haha... but I will try my best to complete these and tag the person who requested when I'm done. Please keep in mind I'm still learning digital art and these will not be masterpieces, just putting that disclaimer here 😅

Anyway, hope for a few requests and to learn a few things...Thanks everyone in advance:

Palette A (creator:AsktheStarGazer):

Palette B:

Palette C:

(Edit only for a typo ‘pallet’ hahaha)

@Unnamed_Freak @PhantomMask20763 @KiraElijah Great, I'll add these in the order they were requested, I'm definitely going to be busy this weekend but there's some interesting palette/character variety, thanks for requesting, as above I'll tag as they're done 😊

@TheGameZpro3 Thanks, I'm picturing fluro green dwight now, that's going to be fun 😂 I guess it is called a "challenge" thanks for the request. 😊

What a nice idea! Fellow artist here, I really share your struggle with breaking free of using the same colours. Maybe it is time I try something like this myself 😊

    I wish for a wraith in palette c #44 :)

already interested in seeing your results!

@Gcarrara Thanks I hope I can learn from this, please feel free to request one if you want, it’s open to all.

@LaraVermillion I found since I’m really new to taking digital art seriously (used to play around with art programs and techniques as a teen) I keep using light and dark shades of one-two similar colours for dark/highlights and want to start using cool colours and warm colours in my shading to give more depth and vibrancy to my art. I love those bright purple or blue or neon artworks I see my favourite artists making so I thought this challenge might be a good stepping stone while I learn colour theory. Definitely feel free to try it yourself, I love art challenges like goretober, art style swap and this. They definitely help with improving style, speed and colours etc.

I’ll add in your request into the list (thank you for choosing that palette I was looking at it this morning and hoping for someone to request a blue or purple theme). Thanks for the request , I’ll tag you when it’s done.

Also I would write who they’re for on the picture itself as most do with the palette requests but I tried and my handwriting is so messy/awful I thought it was better without, so, sorry about that...

    A + Dwight + friendlyfire

So after doing this I looked up if others have done this palette out of curiosity bc how difficult it was (big surprise it’s not popular I found like 3...😂), turns out most use the red as black/hair and green skin but I didn’t like it this way (initially had the same thought as it’s the darkest colour but it looked terrible on Dwight, the reddish hair made it not look like Dwight at all) so I hope you like/enjoy your Oompa Loompa Dweet. Thanks again for this palette I actually surprisingly had fun with it. 😊

Oh and I know it looks like I cheated with the “paint” effect at the bottom but funny thing it was an accident when I tried to recolour the red to green it turned into a wierd overlay and I liked it more than the plain red or green alone so... *yeets self out window before anyone can call it cheating* (it technically was made with the palette colours so I’m going to call it a loophole)

As before added a BG removed version.

    B-18 Spirit

So interesting story with this one, did a little messy sketch of spirit with a mask and “exposed muscles” the other day while trying to think of a pose and liked it so that’s the original version (kinda reminds me of mortal Kombat for some reason???) but I added a redone face version just to cover all bases in case you didn’t like the first version. 😅

These palettes have been really fun so far, I thought this might feel the same as the first one but it had a completely different feel and was easier I think because it had black, white and a full gradient.

Sorry this one turned out a little sketchy/messy but I kinda like it like that. I hope you like it and thank you again for the request.💖

@Gcarrara @drimmalor Thank you both so much, 😍☺️these are actually really fun, many more to do still and I was actually really happy with that slightly reflective look detail on Dwight’s glasses.

    @Unnamed_Freak

    A+ welcome + pig

This colour palette was so nice, I hope I did it some justice there’s unfortunately a few errors in this I can feel but can’t really see... if you get me? I know there’s something wrong with the legs/coat and head in some aspect but I can’t see how to fix it at this point. I’ve tried flipping the canvas and making small changes and comparing them but I’m just not happy with any changes I make...ah, new artist in training problems, I’m still learning is all I’ve got to remember...😔 I’ve been so unmotivated/down this entire week so far, so, sorry for the wait, I’ll try to get motivated again to finish these. I know if I left every piece until it was absolutely “perfect” then I’d probably never get them finished...😓

Anyway, thank you for the request 😘 💖 and I’m going to try and look at the things I’m happy with in this rather than just see all the flaws all the time, I’m going to try to post this ending with a positive view.🤗I am sort of happy with the hair and colours on the face/mask/head so let’s go with that.

  • Gcarrara
    Gcarrara Member Posts: 2,263

    Another great job! 👍️

If it does help you, as a not expert at all i don't see any problem with the legs or the coat! So do not think too much about it! 😁

    And that spirit... Damn!

    B + 10 + ghostface

Wow this palette actually burned my eyes a bit you wouldn’t think red on red tones would be painful but staring at it for a while...wow. It’s like really aggressive strawberry jam, I just finished this during a long 6h session of dbd tonight so midnight now and the strawberry is too much (was colouring inbetween matches and have had the sketch done for days but just picked it up again to finish it properly today) chose a “you’d make a great picture” pose because why not. Something I’ve never done before and tested perspective and size.

Anyway hope you like it just...don’t stare too long. 😨

@Gcarrara Thank you for the continued support 💖, it’s just that sometimes staring at something too long leads to overthinking it and seeing only the flaws. Thank you for letting me know how you see it, makes me feel a little better about it. ☺️

@TheGameZpro3 I’m so sorry I almost missed your reply, I’m really glad you liked it makes it feel extra worthwhile when the people I made them for really like the outcome, thank you again for the request ❤️

@PhantomMask20763 Thank you so much, I’m glad you like it ☺️ The pose was pretty fun, thought it fit his “theme/character”, red on red was interesting to say the least. 😅 I don’t mind at all it’s actually really amazing/heart-warming that you like it that much 😍 and I did make it for you (a ref somewhere for the art would be really appreciated though but not a necessity) Thanks again for participating in this. 💖

@GrootDude Thank you, I’m slowly getting through them, I’m really happy that people are enjoying them. 😊

@drimmalor Well most of this is thanks to the people who request the palettes, that one was really nice, I loved it too, such a warm orange/rust blend, it was fun to work with, some colours get difficult with knowing where to put them/how to use them/ what shade to use for each part (shading/highlights/base colours) but it’s really cool seeing the end result of the palettes and wondering if I could have done them differently. That’s pretty funny, it kinda does look like a basket at a quick glance, I could see it 😁 . Thank you for the support ❤️

@Peanits Thank you, that will be interesting no doubt 😨 *stares at palette in vast confusion while trying to picture trapper* I can see some things being possible even on first glance but wow that’s going to be fun/a miracle if it’s even possible and looks decent 😂 Thank you for the request.😘

@GhostlyFoxx Aww thank you so much, that means a lot 😍

    Kiskashi Member Posts: 1,043

@PhantomMask20763 Forum name is basically the same name I use just about everywhere else so...I guess that would be it? Sorry, I’m still in the process of setting up an art/personal Twitter at KiskashiArt (it exists but I’m still designing a background/icon etc and setting up so I’m not really active on it yet)

Thank you for giving credit though, it does mean a lot and I’m still getting into this “digital art” and actually sharing it with people thing so probably hard for people to have something concrete to refer to at this moment...😅

    @LaraVermillion wraith + palette C + 44

So it’s been a while, it took me such a long time to even be moderately happy with this piece, I loved the colours but when trying to put them together it just felt like painting with white chocolate (all extremely close “creamy” shades mostly is what I mean there for lack of a better metaphor, it was hard to get any contrast) I can 100% see why it’s called dream a little dream now 😂 I decided on candle wraith because I thought I could do something cool with the purple and have blue as the “glow”, good idea... in theory, wondering now how base wraith would have looked in this palette colour scheme or if I should have used that mid purple/blue as the base. 🤔 In any case, thank you for the request, I hope you like it ❤️

Sorry I’ve not been super active with these requests in the past week or so. I got a little sidetracked with uni stress (I have an entire thesis to write in less than 1.5 months😱) and drawing things I wanted to draw maybe including a new guilty dbd ship 😏but I should be back on track with these now, I do however need to swap back to my headcanons requests thread now but thanks everyone for bearing with me on this. Your patience is greatly appreciated 😍

@Gcarrara Thank you, you're always here with such lovely comments, thank you so much for the support 💖❤️

Just wait for the billy or trapper though, I can't draw billy for the life of me and trappers palette is random neon-esque colours with no gradient/shading I'm sure we'll find one to not like soon 😂

@drimmalor Thank you so much 😍, I’m glad the candle wraith is appreciated, his glow fit with what I was going for. I was going to draw him holding his weapon but thought that would be boring and thought he’s usually associated with skull weapons so glowing skull just...happened??? 🤗I do wonder if I broke this thread though because everything recent now appears strikeout font to me??😅

@ceridwen309 You’re not late at all, thread is still going strong and still open to requests, feel free to request one yourself if you’d like. 😊I’m more stressed about everything else, I only stress over these if I feel like I’m taking too long but that’s a personal thought, I know everyone here is pretty patient and are so lovely in general.

Definitely, glad to hear it, I hope you can find a fun challenge too, it really helps, I’m already thinking of what I might try next, I do love art challenges. I’m actually happy with how these ones are turning out (once I get over the initial “artist only sees flaws in work while posting it” phase😅) and how ready people are with suggestions, it’s nice to not be confined to basic colours. Thank you ❤️
