ultrawide screen support
Will we ever see ultrawide screen support?

It wouldn't that's the thing, but they either can't put resources to add support for such a niche set of people that use it at this time, or they just can't figure out how to support it.
Its most likely that they're just busy with things like dedicated servers, which they're putting most their man-power into at the moment, to do anything else that's considered "major" like, patches are one thing, they're not that hard to produce, but things like bug fixes, support, and other things take a bit more time.
I wish I could give you a better answer on the subject, but that's the best I can do without a official respond from the devs themselves. I hope it'll suffice for now...

I would like to get you a solid answer, so i'll @Peanits and @not_Queen to see if they have any info for you at this time.
Hopefully they'll be able to answer this question, so you can get some closure as this question has been up for a bit of time without an answer.

It's not that we aren't looking, it's just that we cannot possibly respond to every post. There's far too much going on for that.
Ultrawide support is on the to-do list, but we don't have any ETA. It would likely have to be pillarboxed since extending the FOV to cover the entire screen would give you a clear advantage over a typical 16:9 screen. Other changes will take priority over this, however, since only a small number of people are using ultrawide monitors. When we have to decide between a feature that would benefit everybody and a feature that would benefit a few people, we would rather focus on the thing that improves the game for everyone.
That's not to say it won't ever happen, but there's things we'd rather focus on for the time being.

Last time I heard is they removed support for those screens. (would kinda make the FOV bonuses on some perks useless..) So to answer this question respectfully... probably not.

Well that's lame. There are tons of competitive games that support ultrawide screen. They could at least provide bars on the sides of the screen.

No they're most likely not adding that because of how certain perks are built around that mechanic. It would make them ultimately useless in the grand scheme of things.
Now, if they in the future did announce this, it would be posted under an official statement. But to answer your question as someone who isn't a developer that would know this 100% for sure, I can safely say they will not be adding this.
Sorry.

So even doing the bare minimum support for ultrawide screen by providing black bars on the sides of the screen wouldn't be possible because of perks in the game?

Essentially, either its too much work to do for them right now or it would effect the game in an unfair way.
At least, thats what people would believe.

I would be fine if that was the answer...to much work to do RIGHT NOW but instead of that we get...no comment at all. I still dont see how providing blacks bars on the side would give me or anyone a unfair advantage.

I understand not everyone has a ultrawide monitor but they are getting more popular and almost all the games I have support it. I never expected it to be top priority but I'm glad to finally get a response on it...so thanks for that. I've been trying to get back into playing again but it's harder with the zoomed in look on my monitor...especially with killers. I want to thank FireHazard for helping me to get a answer on this....I will stop whining on the forums about it now hehe.
Edit: Now I will go back to whining about adding Pumpkinhead as a killer.😁

I know this is an old post but I didn't want to create ANOTHER 21:9 thread asking for the same thing.
We have a broken 21:9 support and I just bought an Ultrawide monitor that I love.. DBD is the only game where 21:9 is broken and difficult to fix to play this game.
We need an option still to be able to play the game in 21:9 full screen, but have black borders on the left and right of the screen (even though I don't agree with the FOV reason. If they added an FOV slider to the game and got rid of the FOV perks they could easily do it. They've reworked so many addons and killers and perks lately that it is totally feasable right now.)
I am praying and hoping that they add proper 21:9 support by not forcing us to have to change our desktop resolution to 16:9 just to play this game, make it so we have the same FOV as everyone else and make black bars on the sides of the screen in fullscreen. Then eventually get rid of the FOV perks, create an FOV slider, and let us use proper 21:9 in this game. FOV with an ultrawide is not even an advantage, it's barely noticeable when you actually play games on ultrawide in the same FOV as other players.

I'll @Peanits to see if he'll respond, but I wouldn't necro old posts next time... it's just to keep them from being re-used and never finished.

I wanted to provide my thoughts on how you can satisfy the Ultra-wide community while not giving an unfair advantage.
I think for the home screen you should just zoom it out. There is no unfair advantage to be gained while not in a game. Please fix this zooming issue. Even at this moment I would take the black bars over all my characters having there heads cut off, and not being able to see names or other info while getting ready for game.
As far as in game. I think you should offer your current solution (16x9 Forced with black bars) and have a dynamic scaling option. Show the first 70 or so FOV at normal scaling then between normal FOV (70%) and the remaining FOV (30%) provide a stretched screen. This requires you to load the screen as a flat image before being able to deliver this view to the user.
Most of us who buy Ultra-wides do so for Immersion we don not do so to be competitive. If I wanted to go hard mode, I would buy a 16x9 resolution such as a 27" and I would crack that bad boy up to 240 FPS. But that is not why I bought this. I wanted to really feel immersed in the environment. To tell you the truth its hard to see all the screen at once anyway. The dynamic scaling would provide the feeling of Peripheral vision.
I understand you have bigger problems. But this would be a very nice add for the people of us who use it. Once again even if this is pushed out years, please provide a forced 16x9 for the UI pre-game as the zooming is an awful experience.0
