Do something with gen taps (when it's regressing) It's ridiculous.

Eirher get an instant 3-4 percent regression for each kick, or make it so survivors have to stay on the gen for 2 seconds in order to stop the regression.

Since it takes 2 seconds to kick a gen, but survivors can just run pass it an start the repair animation without even touching the gen physically to stop the regression with no penalty at all.

Why is that even a thing? Why isn't it removed alongside the other broken mechanics like no stun after falling?

If you don't have balanced landing it is ill advised to fall from a ledge. You get slowed down a LOT.

It used to give you no slow down even before BL was a thing, but that issue got fixed. I'm saying that gen taps are the same tier of nonsense but it's still in the game.

There should be an immediate skill-check when a survivor returns to a damaged gen.

If succeded, the regression stops, then the survivor may leave the gen or keep reparing it.

If failed, try again or leave but the gen will still regress.

Edit: I play both killer and survivor, and even as a survivor I think it would be a good thing.

Why do you care about gen taps?

It literaly will take them twice the ammount of time to fix the gen that if they maned up and powered throught ruin

edit: nevermind, I agree kick should damage a percentage of the gen.

Yeah it is pretty silly how a survivor can just touch a gen to stop it regressing, meanwhile the killer has to enter a 3 second kicking animation to do the same thing. Still it can be of benefit if you are running overcharge or weasel, it's always really awesome to get a 50% gen regression because some silly nea thought she was doing a good thing by tapping the generator with red sparks

I played a game early and dominoe effected two gens back to zero from a full roar

Just make it so survivors cannot repair a gen for five seconds after they let go of M1.

    ez fix

  • FabV
    FabV Member Posts: 173

That's quite right but it would be a "light" overcharge. Normal skill check and no additional regression on failure.

The good ol days of non regressing gens and 99% strats.

Overcharge still lets you gen tap for some reason. You can just hit the skill check while you're running away.

  • Peanits
    Peanits Dev Posts: 7,555

Fortunately you do not have to. All you gotta' do is chase them away first. If you want to be bold about and kick it while they're still there, then you'd need a perk. But at that point, you're putting yourself in that situation.

Well than, let's see a common situation associated with taping gens.

You are at springwood, playing killer and you have a generator besides the tall brown fence right next to the school with the white window loop. That generator was at 90%, but you kiced it before and now it's regressing and is around 74%. Than you suddenly find a wild Bill between the back of the school and the 2 story house. He decides to run for the white fence and from there, start using the pallets in the building. While runing to the fence's window, he spots the regressing gen, taps it, and still makes it to the window before you could hit him because it took him nearly no time to do that. Than you either kick that gen again for the cost of losing him, or continue the chase knowin that the generator stays at 74% and anyone could quickly finish it even if you catch and hook that Bill with PGTW ready to smash.

Overcharge works as long as they aren't prepared for the skillcheck. But even if they hit it, that's a free and undeserved tap.

In this scenario, you're worried that someone might get on the gen and finish it. Even if it didn't stop regressing, they would still be able to get on the generator and finish it. It's only going to regress at 0.25 charges/second. Unless the Bill manages to waste a ton of your time (in which case, you got outplayed), that extra regression is not going to make a difference.

Even if it was regressing and it took a whopping 20 seconds for someone else to get on it, we're talking about an extra five seconds (solo).

You could have gen kicking cause a 2.5% regression. Then it'd at least be time neutral with default kick time (2s for killers to kick, 2s for survivors to undo) without being super spammable. And it'd punish gen tapping repeatedly.

  • Kwanghyun
    Kwanghyun Member Posts: 186

That may be true but still, what is the point of keeping generator taps in the game to cheat regreession? There is occasions where otherwise a gen would regress to 0 if it's not for a cheeky survivor tapping a gen mid chase, and removing it would only help to "slow the game down a lil bit" that is only healthy since gens can go way too fast.

Also you can't stop survivors from going to these gens during chase. It's not like you can break the window or destroy a hill that people tries to use balance landing from but of course taps the gen first because why not.

Look, nothing will stop gen tapping. If we banned gen tapping (Removed it as a mechanic) then you are saying that no gen would be able to be worked on until it fully regressed or a survivor stayed on it.

If you are in a chase for more than 3 minutes break off and go for gens again if you are so worried.

But removing gen tapping won't do anything. That's what Surge, PGTW, & Overcharge are for.

@Peanits is right, if you think someone's gonna do a gen break off the chase and start a new one at the gen you feared you life for..?

"no gen would be able to be worked on until it fully regressed or a survivor stayed on it"

Sorry but what the hell were you talking about?

This discussion may turned out a bit overcomplicated for you, but the topic is very simple.

Killer needs 2 seconds to kick a gen

Survivor needs 0.1 seconds to "unkick" it

Fix that so at least they need to touck the gen to actually stop regression and start the repairing since rn it happens before you even interact with the object. That way you need to take a risk if you wanna tap it during chase. That's it. There is notghing to disagree with.

So you're saying if someone is looping you and they hit the skill check while running, thats an undeserved tap? That doesn't make sense whatsoever because it takes more skill to do that than complain about something that is easily preventable by chasing someone away before kicking a generator. Kicking a generator before you chase someone isn't the smart way to go when they can just loop and tap it to stop it from regressing, you really are just wasting your own time doing that.

  • MegaWaffle
    MegaWaffle Member Posts: 4,172

So long as the skillcheck requires you to be on the gen.

For example if the killer is using "Overcharge" you can literally run away from the gen while doing the skillcheck...it makes no sense.

Isn't there a perk that is specifically for this purpose ? It's one of the Doctor.

It's way too easy to stop the regression. Forcing the Survivor to repair the gen for two seconds would be a good idea. If you want to stop the regression right in the Killer's face, then you deserve to be grabbed or hit.

how does the topic of gen tapping make them out of touch with their own gade

  • Micheal_Myers
    Micheal_Myers Member Posts: 1,147

But what if they loop you away from the gen?

They loop you the entire game.

Because you were so obsessed with that survivor 3 gens pop.

You really think they need to tap the gen to get stuff done?

No. They need to loop your butt. Because you are ignorant of your surroundings.

If they tap the gen break it and break off the chase. Simple. Don't be over confident. You'll lose every time.

I think the gen tapping to avoid ruin skill checks is more of a problem, completely ignores the core mechanics of the game and a perk.

  • Kwanghyun
    Kwanghyun Member Posts: 186

I'm not ignorant of anything lmao. What makes you think that I'm gonna chase 1 survivor for 3 gens? You're just making hings out of your head and keep ignoring the essence of the discussion.. Everyone agrees with that gen taping as it is is not okay. And what Penaits thinks is pretty dissapointing if anything, but it's just another proof to the fact that devs aren't good enough in their own game to fully understand it.

Seriously if you gonna say something, read the whole thread because all your points are already refuted and there is no reason to argue anymore.
