Question on "When to slug"
Just wanted to hear you all's thoughts on the subject. I've been playing Billy alot lately to try to improve on him, and I use infectious fright on him. As far as slugging goes, my thoughts sre...I'll slug whenever the oppertunity arises. By that, I mean if I'm presented with a 2nd target to down...Ill take it.
To some though, slugging should really only be done as a last ditch effort or something. Just got out of a really close game that ALMOST ended really early with 3 ppl downed and me chasing the 4th, when unbreakable reared its head and saved the day for the survivors. Still ended up getting the 4k but only after 4 gens were done.
Endgame chat, one of em piped up "Imagine slugging with 4 gens up and with ruin still up as well". Whats you alls thoughts on this? Should the amount of gens remaining determine if I should slug or not?

As a heavy survivor main, I say slug whenever you like.
You saw another survivor after you downed me? Makes sense, go for it.
You're scared I might have Decisive Strike and so you're waiting it out? Fair enough, it would be unreasonable of me to expect you not to try to counter it.
I'm the second-last survivor and you don't want the other guy to get the hatch? Understandable. It's natural that you would want to win the game just as much as we do.
Perhaps my perspective on this is largely because I see being slugged as a good thing, a second chance at life. And not just because I usually run Unbreakable. Basically, I see hooks as kind of like "lives". When I lose a chase as survivor, I think "bummer, that's another hook, I can only afford to get caught so many times". But if I get slugged, I don't get that hook, and there's a chance a teammate might come along and pick me up, meaning that I basically get a second chance to make up for that chase I lost. I don't lose a life, even though I deserve to for getting outplayed.
So between that and the fact that I don't think it's unreasonable for players to use whatever tools they have at their disposal to secure a win, I don't think you should ever let anyone make you feel bad for slugging (unless, of course, you're not doing it to win but just to ruin the other players' experience - for example, if you just slug everyone and let them bleed out without hooking them. But that's another situation entirely.)

It all depends on the circumstances as you said. If you're confident that you can get a down, or at least chase off any potential rescuers, then slug away. However its easy to overestimate and spend too long, and let the slugged guy get picked up.
Of course, stronger killers or those with 1shots are much more suited to slugging, especially Billy as in your example. Slugging provides alot of pressure instantly, due to the time it takes to heal up the survivor, but its easy to lose this pressure once theyve had time to recover, so it is important to know when to cash in and hook the slugs
Unfortunately, slugging will always be disliked by people playing survivors, as its both a bitter taste getting downed, and then being forced to watch and not able to aid the other survivors who are in a chase. There is also the drawback that if you get a win by slugging early, your chaser emblem will suffer for it, as well as your devout emblem.
So its got its place in the game, as a short term gain in pressure, at the cost of it backfiring and ultimately gaining nothing. Just ignore those who incessantly rage at those who do slug, since there are perks that both enable and discourage it on both sides

Slug if there are multiple survivors in a bad location.
Slug if you are running IF and are confident you can quickly down people. Slugging only works if you are downing people faster than they can be picked up, and can easily be punished by competent players.
Slug if you got some fool running straight behind you with a flashlight while you are carrying someone. My standard response is to just drop the survivor and go straight after them. It is funny how many survivors will boldly rush in for a save when they are the last person not on a hook or slugged.
Slug during endgame if you want to try and get greedy for the 4k still; but be aware you might get unbreakabled into no kills by really good survivors.

I usually begin to slug late game. If there's four survivors alive and one generator left, this is when I begin to slug survivors. It's not that I want to, but if I'm playing the match to win, then I will

I run infectious fright on Billy so I slug whenever I see survivors with this perk, doesn't matter how many gens are done, if they are within my tr I'll go for them. Other instances is when I have 1 or 2 gens left and all 4 are alive. Slugging 1 while not knowing where the other 3 are at 3-5 gens is overkill imo

@LordGlint I personally think you're doing it right and like the situation you described - sometimes you just can't plan around everything. I'll just add a couple of minor details/things I think are worth considering
- I'll slug someone only if I am absolutely confident that I'll be able to get a pallet, health state or a down from another survivor in the next 10-15 seconds. Otherwise it's not worth it
- If I down someone and I know there is another target in the open near me I'll slug the first person and go for a down on the next survivor
- If I down someone and I see a second target at a strong loop/jungle gym, I'll go there to at least get a pallet. Once I've gotten the pallet I'll consider going back to the slug, unless the other person leaves themselves exposed. Best case scenario - someone will have come to revive the slug and I'll get a health state or a down on them.. otherwise I'll pick up my slug
- If I know there are more more than 2 people around me, most of the time I'll aim to put one on the hook as soon as possible and then proceed to slug the rest, or force them to trade hooks. I'll make sure that there is at least one person on a hook at all times in order to maintain maximum pressure.
- UnbreakaBill is a game changer, but apart from picking everyone up, it really doesn't have much counterplay. With that said, sometimes picking a suspicious Bill up is not always an option, so I'll try to memorise the character, item, name and location of each slug and keep a mental picture of where everyone is. That way if someone picks themselves up I should have a pretty clear idea of who they are, where I downed them and where they are most likely to go or what they'll try to do next

I'll slug if i see another target and i know i'll get a hit/down/pallet out of it
Or if i know one of the gens is going to pop if i don't go there asap

surv has DS
after downing there is surv nearby
when survs are like m1 monkeys that dies in 10seconds
and sth around that

DONT slug when you know you will spent more time to catch other surv than other survs to pick downed surv (because youre kinda wasting time)

Slug whenever you feel like it's the correct way to apply pressure. However if survivors are smart they will immediately run to the other side of the map as soon as they scream due to Infectious hard countering it in most cases. At least that's how I play against it and so far I ALWAYS escaped Infectious-slugging killers fairly easily.
I always run to the other side of the map and start repairing a gen forcing the killer to either give up the slugged survivor completely or give up the gen completely. I'm honestly shocked how helpless most survivors are as soon as you slug. It's easily countered.
Therefore do it whenever you feel it's the right call. If someone runs to the other side of the map however I would just pick up and hook the slug otherwise you just risk losing any pressure and hooks.

The answers itt are all correct, but you basically summed it up in the op: slug when the opportunity arises and, if I may add, if it works in your favor.
Survivors can be upset and all that, but if the full team is alive, 3 or 4-man slugs do not happen without heavy mistakes on their part.

The only time I'll slug someone to BM is if they obviously want to suicide as soon as their hooked. If you go find the killer so you can leave a game after finishing your challenge or something...you can bleed out. Saw way too much of this during the original hallowed blight event with survivors farming flowers and then noping out of the actual game.

Id say slug all you want, i would suggest not slugging all 4 people at once. although that would be due to some of the survivors playing bad and its on them in reality but it is a game, people dont wanna be killed on first hook and i dont understand as a killer why youd want a game over so quickly, id say as soon as 2/3 are down start picking up and getting those hooks. having multiple people down/hooked is a great position to be in and can result in a fun game which you can get a bunch of BP while not making the game too boring for everyone.

My general rule's for slugging is this and I've never been yelled at for slugging
- Do I know another survivor is near? This is a little tough, since you run infectious fright and it tells you. I dislike that perk because it in general encourages slugging.
- Was this survivor just off hook and accidently ran at me? If yes, I usually slug them, bad luck. I don't want to just leave them because that's a person on a gen.
- Did they get unhooked and start doing a gen right infront of me? Yes, I slug them, they have DS. If you wanna go for a chase, that's one thing, I'll chase you, but other than that I'll just slug you and move on.
- Once I have these questions answered, the next thing I take into account is the number of gens. If there are 1-2 gens left and someone is on death hook, I'll slug them, yes it seems counter productive, because killing them would mean one less person to do gens. However, a downed survivor is 2 people off gens, the one I slugged and the one going to pick them up.
- Lastly if its EGC and the person I ended up downing is on death hook, I slug that person to hopefully get someone not on death hook... If everyone is on death hook, I just hook the person and call it a game.

I generally dont slug for the 4k unless I can start a chase right away. If infectious fright or something goes off...or I see them, sure. If I'm just gonna be wandering around the map checking lockers and bushes, they can HAVE the hatch, lol.

If your reasonably certain you can end the chase quickly you take it..and I'd make it a habit, ruin won't be able to cushion the blow any longer

I always view it as fair game, but it tends to be a bad idea unless you're sure you can get a second down quickly. For that reason, I'll usually only slug if I see another survivor nearby, otherwise I'll just take the hook.
To give an example, me Huntress, me throw hurty sticks. If I down one guy and see someone else nearby, I'll throw a hatchet and hit them. If I'm now out of hatchets, I'll let them go and settle for the hook or else there's a good chance my slug will get picked up while I'm chasing. If I do have hatchets, I'll usually try to get a second down quickly and then go hook the first guy.

If you feel like its worth it to slug, then go for it. Soon as you leave the downed person someone is probably going to come heal them

I just don't slug. I hook and I know that the immersed Claudette will stay in the same spot since,from experience,I know they don't learn >:D

The only time slugging is a problem is when the killer is literally just downing one survivor after another and making no attempt to hook. This is usually done by
Russiansadistic killers whose only goal is to sap the fun out of the game. Unfortunately, Infectious Fright makes this tedious playstyle much easier.Oh, and "slugging for the 4K". That's boring too.
The rest of the time, it's pretty much fine.

if I find someone sabotaging hooks often times I slug them. Not for any strategy just teaching a lesson.

Way too situational to just say "slug now" If you down someone do you KNOW where someone else is? if you do KNOW where someone else is, are they in a good spot? How long do I need to chase them in order to get a hit/down/pallet out of them?

At the very beginning of a match the other day someone sabo'd a hook in my face first thing... my thought process is, "Fine, you guys don't want to be hooked, I won't hook you." So I slugged everyone, and two died on the ground (including the sabo'er) and two died on their first hook. It was fun, kinda like a game of whack-a-mole.
I don't always do that. Sometimes I view it as, "Oh, good, someone not working on gens." It depends on my mood.
On the topic of the thread, I slug whenever I feel it's beneficial. I'll do it to slow the game down. If I see a second target to down, yeah, I'll take it. "Dude, you think I don't know you're hiding behind a tree with a flashlight? I know you're there."
If I come across someone who just got off the hook, I may slug them or I may just ignore them. It depends on how quickly the team is getting their objective done and how much time the survivor has already spent on the ground.
I only slug for the 4k if I'm going for some achievement or something, because I just find it boring and kinda stressful to try to search the map and keep tabs on the slug at the same time. I'd rather move on to the next match.

1) Slug if you will waste too much time hooking a survivor.
2) Slug if you can immediately take a chase on another survivor.
3) Slug to prevent hatch.
4) Slug if you don't want to kill that guy just yet (eg. Blood Warden).
5) Slug to avoid DS.

I really hate slugging because I was traumatized by Unbreakable when I first started playing, it's a tough instinct to break

I use Surv, and BBQ so I tend to know where the survivors are at all times. I slug when I already have a survivor on hook, and can see one making the save if I pick the surv I down up. So i'll just leave them on the ground and intercept the save.
Other times if I know 2 survs are in the same area, I'll try to down them both before picking any up.
A guarentee'd time I slug is when I get 2 on hook, I always slug the third while going for the fourth. At that point I already pretty much won the game - the survivors hate me for it, but honestly it never would of happened if they played welled in the first place.
