What's the point of rank reset?
Does it actually do anything?

I think the point is to keep queues balanced. If ranks never reset, then it would only be a matter of time before everyone climbed all the way to top ranks, and then queue times at lower ranks would be incredibly long. So that's the theory behind it - whether it actually accomplishes that as it currently stands is very much debatable.

-Queue times
-Sometimes people climbed the ranks due to an imbalance in the game
-It's a nice break from sweaty matches if you're high ranked
-Somewhat deters purposefully down-ranking

As said above, its to help with queue times, rank overpopulation, and a general goal to keep hitting every time it's reset.
It's mostly for balance as well, but as of late it's caused a bit of a stir with the match-making queue times. More-so in Green and below, a bit in Purple and Red.
Otherwise, it's suppose to be a healthy cycle of fresh blood in the high ranks, it keeps up competition and such.

Feeling of achievement every month, queue times, population per rank colour.

Yeah the problem with DBD in contrast to competitive games is that both teams can rank up from a game. So rank resets has to happen in order to not overpopulate high ranks.

Right, but it's also to keep things fresh for some players.
The issue is, being reset back one rank will see more diversity within the Red Ranks, since if everyone eventually gets to Red Ranks, than they'll just be reset back to Purple and easily get back in Red.
But we'll be seeing a Rank Rework during or after Chapter 15, at least that's what the Road Map shows, so we'll see what happens.
