For the love of god, Please Rework Totems Already.
They are an insignificant "secondary objective" if you can even call them that because they have no incentive to cleanse due to the fact that they mostly and usually have a minimal effect on the final outcome of the match. You might as well just rename them the "insurance policy for No One Escapes Death that rewards you some bloodpoints".
A simple way to fix this would be to make it so that hex totems only light up whenever a player approaches near, or interacts with them. However an unintended outcome of this would be that players would just "totem tap" you could always just get rid of the indicator in general.
However in the given scenario if no hexes are in play than it would not effect the survivor at all thus becoming ineffective at encouraging cleansing.
It is for this reason that i personally believe totems should punish survivors for not cleansing them by time the last genorator is completely repaired. This would deter the "gen rush" mentality
-Every totem in the map (both dull and hexed) now metaphorically symbolizes each particular player(1 killer and 4 survivors) . The Killers' totem will look different in appearance to all of the others survivors totems and if a hex is in play, it will always light on the killers totem
-In the event that a survivors corsponding totem is standing durring the time when the Exit Gates are powered, the killer has the ability to Mori those particular survivors.
-When a survivors totem is cleansed they are notified and become the obsession
