Do the Devs need to stop with perks?

Member Posts: 4,623

Asking, as personally to me I feel like the perks since Jeff haven't been as good (as a surv main) some will say yes some of the perks have been good since and they use them, just a lot I speak too seem to have their usual 4 perks. Those I speak too don't count in perks since Jeff etc, but with new Killers and Survivors do we need more new perks or to keep what we have? and the devs concentrate on other things? do we as people who play dbd need more new perks? and please keep this topic civil as I am fed up of some stuff that gets posted.

I can say that the new chapter, great as it is, the perks are...........................well, naf i am sorry devs but i mean they are needed in at a time but not without.

Though Head on with Jane - yes i can say a good perk and used often....but..........

Head On is a meme, I think you mean CI as the best perk of recent updates. IS for survivors is arguably the best.

  • I agree with Peanitis for the most part, but the grind of the game has been getting pretty intense for new people coming in because of the constant addition of perks.

@Peanits yes but some perks depend on a certain killer, and a certain build but i mean perhaps there needs to be a survey on the perks used and not used, so some can be buffed or nerfed if needs be, some aren't the best of the best it's just what someone likes to use during a game. I feel like perhas the community needs to give feedback on suggestive perks as personally I feel not a lot of them are up to par.

But when it comes to 30 killers, 30 survs, when will it end? do the devs have it in them to continue on making perks? if they aren't going to do second objectives or bring somethign else into this game i feel it could grow stale

Would it not be a great idea to constantly nerf the meta of both sides. The Ruin nerf has really made people rethink their Killer strategy. Should we not review other must-run perks to keep things fresh?

  • Member Posts: 7,318

Well yes, it's a good perk, but in terms of exhaustion perks it's relatively a meme.

  • Member Posts: 4,623

Yes but do you use them and can honestly say you se them a lot in games?

  • Member Posts: 7,318

It's like 3 out of 72+ perks. You can't expect to see them every game. I do see IS and Head On a bit often.

Are you calling my; Lucky Break, Dance With Me, Quick and Quiet, and Iron Will. Combo bad?

Btw i'm steadily starting to see more Inner Strength than Self Care. One thing to understand is that new perks will take time to learn, and that people will connect and rely on certain builds for a very long time in a game like this.

Inner Strength is better than Self Care, you can't change my mind.

the perk ideas are often not enherently bad, just the execution is, a bit of help here and there and they will be fine.

  • Member Posts: 3,388

I think we have just about enough perks now. One per new character would be fine and less effort to balance. But I know a lot of people buy the characters for the perks.

Most of the perks are junk ranging from outright useless to so situational they're effectively useless. However, pooping out 3 perks for each side every 3 months is easier than actually creating new gameplay mechanics in the core game, so it will never end.

5 totems, 5 uses. Then you have other survivors to contend with. Can't be combined with Botany Knowledge, Resilience or a med-kit. Comes with DLC character, so relying on Shrine or monetary purchase to unlock.

I may not be able to change your mind, but I will cast doubt.

So perhaps some perks need to be looked at and buffed a little do you think? instead of more new ones?

  • Member Posts: 731

I dont think they need to stop the perks coming, its the amount of tiers that makes it to grindy.

I think it is a very important point to be honest. I was thinking of actually making a tread suggesting bloodpoint gains increase with each release. The amount of blood point when the game released was probably ok although still grindy but with the constant grouth of characters it really needs some kind of bloodpoints increase or it will come a time when it will be impossible for new and old players to keep up with characters aditions.

EDIT: The Challenges helped a lot, that much is true.

Most perks that come out are actually pretty good. But they pale in comparison to the meta

That's more a case of the meta being too strong rather then the newer perks beinh weak tbh

I agree on that, I think since Jeff at least one perk each surv or killer was quite useful.

Personally Oni's perks dont match with my game style but I can clearly see the usefulness of them, for example

If we’re looking for more variety in perk usage, let’s just give each perk a counter. It starts at 3 and reduces by 1 after it’s been used in a match.

In other words, you get to use any perk for 3 matches (consecutive or not), then it goes through a 1-match cooldown before the counter is reset at 3. Cooling down perks are greyed out and can’t be used for a match.

I wrote on my survey that they should stop releasing new perks for awhile and update existing ones instead.

New DLC is what makes the money though, so... fat chance of that happening.

90 percent of perks are situational garbage. They need to rethink perks. Too late now though unless they dedicate a giant mega patch to fix all perks into something actually appealing.

I feel like there has been great perks since jeff. Inner strength, head on, thrilling tremors, corrupt intervention, infections fright, nemesis. Yui's perks are useless as well as demos...maybe surge is ok.

  • Member Posts: 7,318

Yui's perks are great...breakout with MoM, lucky break with iron will, and any means neccessary literally replenishing survivors' resources.

  • Member Posts: 2,117

New perks are fine though the existing ones should be looked at, cause most of them need more or less serious rework. Also especially as survivor youre mostly forced to run at least BT and DS, otherwise killers have it easy to play scummy.

It's too late now, but they should (in my opinion) have released 1 (ONE) well thought out perk per killer and survivor. They already had the pool of general perks unlocked for everyone.

Perhaps before each DLC release they could poll for what Survivors want/need in the next perk as well as Killer. Continuing with a couple more polls to further pinpoint the goal and usability of the perk they're working on.

It seems that they might try to get 1/6 perks a slam dunk, the rest are fillers to keep tradition of 3 perks per character and it's only increasing the grind, not quality of the game.

NO! Just NO! I want more perks! The more, the better!

  • Member Posts: 3,647

I would love it if the devs didnt make a new killer/survivor with the perks and map the chapter after next (because we know there is going to be the typical chapter this upcoming one) I'd rather them implement new items for survivors, focus down on map reworks, optimization for ps4 etc.. just overall TLC for what we have.
