For Killers complaining about gen speed, stop using BBQ

I really don't feel that BBQ and gen speed issues are connected in anyway. If 2 survivors spawn on a gen together it takes 44 seconds to pop it without a toolbox. There is currently no perk that can change that. If the killer finds a different survivor and initiates chase 20 seconds after the match starts then that gen will almost certainly pop during chase. The other survivor will most likely be more than half done with a gen when the first pops. And if its too far away from the hooked survivor assuming the killer won the chase, it could very well pop before the killer runs straight to it after hooking the first survivor. Meanwhile the two survivors that popped the original gen would have probably made some progress on at least one other gen before going for the unhook.

If the killer is up against a strong team this is a likely start to the match. Im not saying its impossible for the killer to win at this point but you pretty much do need to snowball, have a good 3 gen or play what most people consider to be dirty., because you lose so much in the first minute of the game. Old ruin used to help with early game and allowed killers to play in a more fun way. While still having somewhat of a chance for victory against a strong teams gen speed. 1 or 2 people looking for ruin 1 or 2 on a gen and 1 being chased. Chase ends and the killer lost probably only a gen instead of half the survivor objective.

Where I would agree that BBQ isn't a very effective perk in most situations the overall grind to obtain perks that work effectively together is a tremendous amount of time for killers who play all killers. For survivor mains a player can basically get away with leveling one character to have all perks and only leveling the rest to 40 for the teachable. Might not even need to do that if they are purchasing perks on the shrine of secrets. And since all survivors are the same except for appearances they can put extra points in other survivors when convenient. The overall bloodpoints to have a single maxed survivor is considerably less than to max out multiple killers.

For the killer mains who play all or lots of different killers and run bbq almost every game they probably are not close to having all the perks they want unlocked on all the killers they play. I myself have about 600 hours in the game and the majority of those hours were before the blood web changes allowing two perks per web after level 40. I have also spent probably three fourths of my bloodpoints on killers. And run bbq most games. When I play killer I play pretty much all the killers and there are still some killers that I really don't have too many perks on at all, little lone an extra perk to help with gen speed in place of bbq if I have that unlocked. I have also not prestige any killer.

So thinking about all of this for killer mains with 100 to 200 hours or so, which is probably a larger part of the killer community than anyone would expect. They almost certainly don't have the perk load out that they want to be using. And they would be crazy not to use BBQ as much as possible in order to cut the probably 2000 plus hours of game time needed to get the perks across multiple killers in half. The reality is an overwhelming majority of the player base will not want to put that much time in and probably never will but would still like to at least earn enough bloodpoints to get some of the loadouts they want across multiple killers so thats why bbq is used so much.

I too also play both sides and lately overall I have been playing survivor more and I definitely was a killer main.

I couldn't care less about the aura reading. I care about the extra 30k bp it'll give me if I play well. Most killers DONT need two slowdown perks. The only time when gen speed is a real issue is right at the start of the game and corrupt, unless you're unlucky and spawn in the middle with three gens that are blocked in a triangle, will completely negate that weakness. I'll drop bbq when behavior makes the game not so much of a grindfest lmao

Bbq is an amazing tracking perk the bonus BP is secondary i agree on some killer its useless like trapper but on a freddy the perk is strong and seeing were the survivor is going is really helpful for a lot of killer because they can cut them off

I like this post and I think you are right. The most player select their perksetting in the same way:

    killer:

1 slowdown perk (pop, sloppy, tana)

    -> needed cause genspeed!

1 trackingperk (discordances, nurses, surveillance, ... or bbq, which isn’t the best choice)

1 chasing perk (spirit fury, bambozle, enduring...)

The last perk should support the weakness of the killer or of the player... if you need something for the beginning use corrupt intervention, bad in chases or gens to fast use a second perk in this category. If all is fine use bbq for bloodpoints.

    survivor:

    1 chaseperk (exhausting perks)

-> needed cause killer is faster then surv!

    1 secondchanceperk (DS, unbreakable, bt...)

1 healing- or informationperk to get healed (inner strength, sc, bond, kindred...)

The last perk should support your weakness, if you bad in chases use hidingperks like urban evasion, if you can’t see the killer well so use spine chill or premonition. If you have enough skill you choose wglf for bloodpoints or any funperk...

Sure, some player use other perkbuilds, but in my experience most player do it like this. You can’t complain about genspeed if you don’t use any perk to counter it, same for survivor, get caught in a second but use no exhausting perk...

I have both, Thrilling Tremors, Corrupt and BBQ. It's a great combo.

Even if they let go of a gen

    Why would they?

It serves as a tracking perk with the EXACT same benefits as BBQ. No killer in the red ranks actually uses it to "block" gens.

Unless you give them a reason to (like doc static blast, then instantly pick up) it's just gonna be the same thing as BBQ.

I like that it helps me reduce the grind for the game...

    That's pretty nice...

Surveillance & Ruin is for tracking and or finding people.

Even then, gens still get done to fast sometimes.

Speeds be crazy from the start.

I know, that's why I said it isn't a gen slow down perk.

Not really the exact same Benefits. You see more with BBQ, because you will see people who are not on Gens. But it is a Tracking Perk, not a Slowdown-Perk.

And I think, if they would give the Bonus-BPs to Thrilling Tremors and remove it from BBQ, most Killers would use TT.

There are a lot of assumptions in this topic. BBQ is good for information, you can apply pressure where its needed straight after hooking someone or pick a weaker target who is in a bad position and get two people on hook quickly. This = gen pressure and effective slow down.

Saying the only way to counter a "gen rush" is to use gen slowdown perks is like saying there is a gen rush problem while at the same time saying there isn't one and telling people its their perks to blame. It's counter intuitive.

I think gen times are ok. Some mechanics could change a lil like gen tapping . Some games are oppressive survivor snowballs, some are oppressive killer snowballs and some are in between. Would I feel less pressured to play hard as killer with slower gen times yeah of course I would, but it'd beef up my 4k snowball numbers considerably. BBQ and Chilli isn't to blame and assuming all posts about gen rushing extend from its use is a poor assumption.
