Dear Dead By Daylight: New Game Phase: Power Outage (Excerpt)
Hey everyone,
You've probably seen this stuff floating around for awhile on the forums, but in case you didn't know, I uploaded a document (and accompanying forum post) titled Dear Dead by Daylight about awhile ago which has been getting incredible feedback from you guys here in the community, but the biggest suggestion was to split all the change ideas into multiple documents to make them easily digestible.
Today, I bring you suggestions for, ideally, fixing generator rushing. Now this is a less than conventional method of changing this, but I think that, if done right, it could actually make game times appropriate and could make games genuinely scary and intense. It'll also fix a lot of minor issues like the pointlessness of luck and other such mechanics, but I'll leave that to the actual article.
If you want to know my reasoning or check out the rest of the changes, I'll leave a link to the main post as well as the previous article. Please leave constructive criticism and/or support, you're feedback is invaluable. Thanks again,
NorMak3
P.S. This list isn't perfect and I may change things on the main document based on new data, but I don't plan on changing anything on these fragment posts, so if something seems off, make sure to check the main document or comments to make sure it isn't already fixed.
"Power Outage: When the last generator activates, there is a chance that a power outage occurs throughout the entire map, turning off all artificial lights, fires, and generally lowering the brightness throughout the map. There is also the same amount of light in enclosed areas as there is outside. During the power outage, the survivors will not be able to see the aura of generators if they normally could unless they use a map. Additionally, when the power outage begins, if two or more chests have been searched, two of those chests close, become restocked, and can be searched again for new items. If only one chest has been searched, that one closes and becomes restocked.
The chance of the power outage occurring will be 80% until 7 minutes have passed in-game. Every minute afterward will lower the chance of it occurring by 10% until it reaches 25%. This can be lowered further by using perks or offerings that increase luck. Each level of luck - slightly, moderately, considerably - lowers the likelihood of The Power Outage occurring by an additional 5%. Ace’s "Up the Ante" Perk decreases the likelihood of The Power Outage by the percentage of luck currently granted. The likelihood will decrease by 15% if there is one survivor dead and will decrease the likelihood all the way to 0% if there are two survivors dead. Besides having two dead survivors, the lowest chance of the power outage occurring can go to is 5%.
The survivor's goal during this game phase is to pick up 3 of 4 fuses that randomly spawn around the map and put them into blown generators. Installing a fuse is similar to installing a brand new part, including a 15 second animation with 2 difficult skill checks back to back, randomly placed within that 15 second span. The action can only be completed in one session similar to destroying totems, if the action must be done again, the two skill checks must be done again. Failing either of these skill checks causes the generator to regress, losing all progress and revealing the regressed generator’s aura to the killer.
Fuses glow with a mystic blue light and blown generators will glow with a sinister dark green color. Killers can see the fuses glowing, but not the generators. Fuses can be picked up similar to dropped items, but do not fill up your item slot. Each survivor can only carry one fuse at a time. All blown generators must be fixed in order to power the exit gates. A survivor that is picked up by the killer will immediately drop their fuse if they are carrying one. Fuses only glow if they are on the ground and do not cause survivors to glow while the fuses are being carried.
3 existing generators become blown generators at the beginning of the power outage. The last normal generator repaired cannot become a blown generator. When a blown generator is repaired, it acts the same as a regular generator for killers in terms of aura revealing and updates to objective as well as the repairing noises made by survivors, but the generator itself makes no noise after the repair, doesn’t make the noises generators normally make while they have progress on them, and does not illuminate the area around it. All areas light up after all the blown generators are repaired just like finishing the last generator normally. After this, the game will continue to the door opening phase.
All survivors gain access to a new perk: Light the Way: During The Power Outage, you have a glow stick bracelet on your arm that begins to glow. It lasts for 2 minutes into The Power Outage and glows with dim light up to 4 meters. While crouching or in a locker, you cover up the bracelet so you do not emit this light. Additionally, skill check zones during these 2 minutes are increased by 10/20/30%. This perk does offer light for the Inner Light perk (will be in the new chapter idea article).
All killers gain a new perk: Nocturnal: During the first 30/40/45 seconds of The Power Outage, you have no terror radius, but your stain is at a 95° angle instead of its normal angle and extends for another 4 meters. In addition, you gain the haste status effect (5%) during this initial time period. "
