Nightmare Dream Causes Lag

My laptop is NOT ideal for gaming, but I can manage to play DBD on low settings. Whenever playing the nightmare and he hits me, it instantly causes lag (due to all of the things falling from the sky). This makes the game unplayable when he is the killer since once he hits me once I'm guaranteed to be downed and hooked. I'm hoping there's some alternative to the falling stuff while in the dream world or a setting to change it to something less lag-causing?
