Using Killer powers proactively should be less punishing
One of the main balance issues with the game, IMO, is that most Killer powers have specific drawbacks that usually make it better to just run up to a Survivor and M1 them to the dying state.
For example:
- The Huntress is slowed when readying a hatchet and slowed even more when throwing it. This, in addition to her default slow movement speed and the fact that dodging slow-moving hatchets is easy, usually makes it better to just walk up to the Survivor and hit them with the axe.
- The Pig is slowed considerably when crouching, an action that already takes some time and slows her down, is slowed when charging the ambush attack, stops moving completely for about half a second when it's fully charged, and has the ambush attack advertised by way of loud roar before it even goes off. Given the prevalence of Exhaustion perks and gen rush, it's usually better to never use the ambush and just walk up to Survivors to hit them.
This is a problem. Killers should not be punished for using their powers. The primary drawback of using their powers should only come when they fail to do so effectively, and only from the fact that it gives Survivors a chance to get away. Using my two previous Killer examples, here are drawbacks I consider fair:
- A Pig who misses her ambush is slowed and has a rather long cooldown animation, so Survivors can get away.
- The Huntress wasted a hatchet (a limited supply that she needs to refill with a relatively long animation), so the Survivor has a chance to escape.
Nearly every aspect of the game is in the Survivors' favor by design (maps, generators, hooks, etc.). Killers should at least be able to use their powers without having to rely on add-ons to counter debilitating drawbacks.
