PC - Using Dead Hard says it exhausts me, but I wasn't Exhausted

Frequency of issues: Had only happen to me once.
I tried to Dead Hard to have the Spirit miss her swing but I ended up doing so too early which caused me to be hit and downed on the floor.
However, I didn't get exhausted at all. I didn't get a recording but I did see my character Dead Hard for a second, see the event that says I am Exhausted but I didn't get the Exhausted Status Effect.
