Mending has to come after Maddness gone

I was playing with a friend against a doctor, and we had borrowed time on each other. However, since we were both in tier 3 madness, we were unable to mend before leaving madness. Then, our mending timer went down as we were trying to get out of madness and both got down despite trying to mend but could not because we had to leave madness 3 first. It would make more sense for mending to have higher priority than madness or else this will happen despite trying to avoid it. So basically:
- get into a mending state against a doctor
- be in madness 3
- try to leave madness 3 before the mending timer goes down
Its very difficult.
