Hey everyone,

You've probably seen this stuff floating around for awhile on the forums, but in case you didn't know, I uploaded a document (and accompanying forum post) titled Dear Dead by Daylight about awhile ago which has been getting incredible feedback from you guys here in the community, but the biggest suggestion was to split all the change ideas into multiple documents to make them easily digestible.

Today, I bring you suggestions for a new killer: The Poet.

If you want to know my reasoning or check out the rest of the changes, I'll leave a link to the main post as well as the previous article. Please leave constructive criticism and/or support, you're feedback is invaluable. Thanks again,

NorMak3

P.S. This list isn't perfect and I may change things on the main document based on new data, but I don't plan on changing anything on these fragment posts, so if something seems off, make sure to check the main document or comments to make sure it isn't already fixed.

"The Poet

Name: Leon LeMaître

Gender: Male

Nationality/Ethnicity: South Scotish

Gothic Horror Slasher

Realm: Murnau Manor

Power: Immortal Pain

Your Dark Muse allows you to channel your sorrow and pains of your previous life into others and into the world around you.

  • Weighted Sins: You are able to inspire guilt and shame within a survivor, blinding them to the world around them. Using your power button on a survivor within 12 feet will build Dread in them. This appears as you taking out a book and inky black rats emerging and swarming the survivor. It takes 6 total seconds of Dread building to put a survivor into full Dread. While manifesting Dread, you move at 110% movement speed.

During full dread, their character portrait is obscured to all survivors slathered with black ink, they have the blindness status effect, their render distance is tremendously lowered (6 meters) (shown as the fog getting closer and thicker), and the warning shot’s sound becomes non-directional for them (explained below).

Dread does not passively manifest, but will dissipate if the survivor stands still for a default period of 5 seconds. This does not include being on the hook or being in a locker. If they are crouching or walking, but not crouch walking, then the Dread effects disappear at 50% speed, but do begin to dissipate.

While partially in Dread, the render distance will be lowered for the survivor depending on the amount of dread you have on them. This also apply to the disappearing of the Dread.

  • Warning Shot: You are able to utilize your pistol, but are unable to use it against survivors. Instead, you can shoot his gun up in the air using his active ability button (channel of 1.5 seconds). When you do, it will cause every crow within his terror radius to fly off.

Additionally, if Dmitri is following someone, he will meow very loudly and reveal his aura for a 3 seconds no matter where he is (Explained below). Additionally, any survivors within 6 meters when he shoots the warning shot will become deafened for 6 seconds.

After firing off a shot, the warning shot has a cooldown of 90 seconds.

  • Watchful Eye: Your beloved cat Dmitri has been allowed to follow you into this strange world beyond. You have a cat that walks around the map. If it finds a survivor it will stalk over to them and follow them until the poet fires off a shot, it sees another player, or is interacted with. After he stops stalking a survivor, that survivor has a personal cooldown before Dmitri can stalk them again (30 seconds base).

If a survivor stops moving and he is allowed to get as close as possible to the survivor, Dmitri will offer actions the survivors they can perform on him. Pressing M1 will start an action of “shoo” where the survivor will shoo him away and pressing M2 will start an action of “appease” where they petting the cat.

If a survivor shoos him away the cooldown timer will be increased (5 seconds per shooing) and he will gain the ability to pounce. After the cooldown, if Dmitri sees a survivor that has shooed him away, he may pounce onto the survivor causing them to scream and reveal their location, then his cooldown will begin again on that survivor. Every time a survivor shoos Dmitri away, the likelihood of a pounce increases by 10% (starting at 0%).

If a survivor appeases Dmitri, the cooldown will become shorter (5 seconds), causing him to follow that survivor more often (minimum cooldown is 5 seconds).

Once a shot goes off, Dmitri has his cooldown on all survivors activate. Dmitri will not stalk anyone who is on the hook, nor anyone who is in the dying state.

Alternate Attack=Basic Attack: No

Weapon: War Saber

Speed: 115% | 4.6 m/s

Terror Radius: 32 meters

Height: Tall

Description:

  • Pale
  • Thin
  • Clean-shaven
  • Slightly ruffled, yet short, black hair
  • Tired eyes
  • Black tailcoat, black pants, silver undershirt, black boots, black cloak
  • Dark sense of humor and irony to the point of sadistic, dark chuckling when downing and hooking survivors
  • Dignified, but not stuck up
  • Somewhat charismatic

Backstory:

  • Grew up relatively poor
  • Found a love of poetry
  • Became a soldier during the Napoleonic War
  • Returned home with a new, darker perspective on the world
  • Became famous, but not wealthy due to his poetry
  • Picked up a stray black cat with one eye off the street and named him Dmitri
  • Famine overtook Scotland
  • He and his wife struggled economically in their crummy apartment
  • Became a workaholic drunk
  • Had a flashback of the war one night while he was asleep. Still half-asleep, accidentally killed his wife with his old war saber. In grief, he grabbed his old flintlock pistol and shot himself. A very thin Dmitri laid down next to his bleeding out body. As the life drained out of him, he saw a large crow on the railing of their apartment balcony as dark mist overcame him and he became the Poet.
  • Kills out of grief, not anger, hatred, or revenge.

Weapon cleaning animation: takes handkerchief out of coat pocket and wipes the saber off

Mori: Grabs from behind, slashes across abdomen, stabs through chest, pushes off blade, shoots in head with flintlock pistol in coat pocket, then pulls out the handkerchief using his gun-wielding hand to clean off the blade, then puts everything except the saber away.

Teachables:

  • One to Tell the Tale: Leaving one alive allows them to sow seeds of terror into their compatriots, softening them up for the next trial. If you are in a chase and you break a pallet that was thrown down within the past 5 seconds, they gain the hindered status effect for 30/38/45 seconds (9%) (This does not apply with Spirit Fury). Also, if every other survivor is dead and the last one escapes either injured or dying, you gain 50% more bloodpoints in the brutality and hunter categories (Post-Trial).

“And there her fear would be left to fester, forevermore.” -Excerpt from The Sparrow by Leon LeMaître

  • Flickering Flames: Your presence alone causes light itself to be tampered with. Whenever you break a pallet, pick up a survivor, or vault, flashlights being used within 8/10/12 meters flicker for 4 seconds.

“Dispair had mangled her face, warping it into a miserable mask that even the light dare not touch.” -Excerpt of Sage in the Field by Leon LeMaître

  • Premature Burial: You are able to injure your survivors in such a way, that their screams may never be heard. When a survivor is hooked, they do not scream and their aura and hooking place (the black ring) are not revealed to other survivors for 7/8/9 seconds.

“May thee rest in peace!” -Leon LeMaître
