Accused of teaming with the killer?
I’m fairly new to DBD (playing on console), got the grips of it, usually play with the hope to be as stealthy as possible and get through gens, unhooking when I can. It was for the first time recently that I got accused of teaming with the killer.
Some detail: I loaded in and was as stealthy as possible, hopped on the first safe gen I saw and got to work. Someone gets hooked pretty quickly, being close by I get off the gen and after waiting for the killer to leave, I go and unhook them. Back to gens I go, and across the map I see two people being downed at once. Both of them get hooked in the basement of the killer shack. I sneak towards the shack and crouch, waiting for the killer to leave. Instead he just closely patrols the area, going in and out of the shack constantly. With the killer right there, I didn’t see how I could unhook. I probably should have tried to do something even if it could have been stupidly altruistic, but unhooking whilst the killer was there didn’t seem like a good idea.
Eventually one died, and the other was in the struggle state, the killer still right there. Not knowing what to do, and feeling like a rather bad teammate, I went back to gens. Person I unhooked gets downed again, I jump up from the gen and try to get closer to save them once again, but they die instantly on the hook. I’m left as the last survivor, and so I try to find the hatch. Hatch option is suddenly gone within a few seconds, and “find the exit” flashes up. I sneak towards the exit and notice the killer coming up towards it. Expecting death, I crouch before him and wait for him to down me and hook me. Instead he just stands and watches me, so I take my chances, getting up and opening the exit. Exit opens, and I run out. Killer let me go.
I’ve had that happen before, some games being the last survivor and out of sympathy I guess, been given the hatch or been allowed to open the gates (sometimes just getting hooked after they let me open the gates, lol). So in this game, I didn’t think much of it, thanked the killer for letting me go and went on my way.
A match or two later I’m in another game, being stealthy and trying to genrush. Right at the very end of the map or so, people are getting downed like dominos, one after the other, as they try to save someone who’s hooked. I try to finish the generator I’m on before leaping up and doing anything.
I receive a message from someone, asking me if I’m “teaming with the killer” Confused, I tell them I don’t team and ask them who they are. They said they were in the same match as me where the killer let me go before and told me not to lie. I had no clue how to defend myself, they seemed dead set on believing that I was teaming just because the killer had let me go, and hadn’t hit me the entire match, due to me trying to play stealthily.
At this point I’m standing afk in front of the gen I was trying to finish, responding to the messages accusing me. To make matters worse, the killer comes and crouches right in front of me, probably thinking I’m afk and amused by it. So imagine the dread I felt when the killer didn’t even take advantage of my supposed afk-ness and didn’t hit me or try to down me, just went off somewhere else. (I’m not blaming the killer, they couldn’t have known that I was being accused of teaming, but the crouching and not hitting me made it look ten times worse).
I go back to the game and all of my teammates are dead, the hatch is closed and the exit gates are the only option to leave. I go towards one exit and notice that it’s already open, no killer in sight but I just stand there, too worried about accepting the escape. Eventually the killer hooks me, which I’m thankful for. I didn’t feel like escaping that match with the accusations thrown at me.
I’m now afraid to go into another match in case the killer ends up letting me go, and now feel like I have to play stupidly altruistic and die too to avoid comments.
So my questions are, how are you supposed to defend yourself from those accusations? I didn’t know how I could prove my innocence to that survivor, and if they reported me, what will happen? Will I be banned for something I didn’t do? And is my play style just bad/not helping?
Thank you for any answers/advice!
(And sorry for the long paragraphs)

Long post incoming
First of don’t worry to much it’s a message and nothing will come from it!
with that being said in my many many hours on this game I’ve personally never been accused of teaming and I’m on pc with endgame chat! So I think it might also have something to do with your play style, it sounds like you play very Immersed and I can tell you if your team mate is on a hook and they see you crouch walking about the place they’re scientifically 99.99% more likely to flame you.
In the particular case you named you went over to the shack and crouched and nothing else. Again this is going to cause grief for your team Dbd is a game about decisive timing and reacting, either do something or don’t (keep doing gens) you went all the way to the shack crouched then left, your team is going to start asking questions.
You honestly should just go for the save in that circumstance if you’ve already made the trip. You said the killer was patrolling or proxy camping this can be worked with and can play out better than you think. Your team mates could have decisive strike, you could take a hit for them or worst case take a down for them and one for one, in this case one for two! sure your now on hook but you’ve allowed two team mates a reset and taken the leverage away from the killer. They may even go down again but should be able to build enough distance to get away from shack thus separating the killers hooks and making saves easier.
In any case I think the killer letting you go was more so a cherry on top for your team and they may have been questioning your motives long before that. Try not to play so immersed and a little more altruistic though their is a fine line between stupid altruism and good, you’d be shocked at what you can do if you play it smart but certainly don’t just freeze up and watch your team die.
Anything outside of a face camp can be worked with to turn in your favor!
anyways Don’t worry to much about it, your most probably still learning and nothing will come from these messages and people will always be a bit salty just be happy your not on pc with endgame chat 😱 good luck have fun!

I've been playing DbD for 2 years now. I always spam click continue in the post-game menu to avoid things like that (Playing from Steam, so i don't get messages from strangers mid game). So I don't have the experience to know exactly how to defend yourself. But what I know is that, you WON'T BE BANNED for this.
Was your playstyle bad? No, I don't think so, it's reasonable to not go for the save if the killer is camping/patrolling the hook/shack. Yes you can actually go stupidly if you really want to save them (let's say you have a ritual to unhook others safely), but you need certain perks like Borrowed Time or 3 stacks of Mettle of Man to make it work. If not then you can still hope your teammate have Decisive Strike.

I have only been accused of teaming once... and that is because someone let me carry them with Mad Grit/Agitation/Iron Grasp for the entire match. It was hilarious because they didn’t struggle once. They must’ve known what I was doing and played along for the lols.
Take no heed from those words.
You did the smart thing, by working on gens when he was proxycamping. You were putting pressure on the killer. If anything, everyone else was acting like idiots by being overly altruistic. You have 2 minutes on a hook, max. If you go to the hook while the killer is nearby, you are encouraging them to stay and proxy camp. Getting gens done will pressure them to move on, making the save easier overall.
Sometimes you will have to give yourself to the hook, but that is usually only in desperate situations.

@Petraaahh Thank you for the advice and reassurance, I’ll definitely keep in mind all of what you said, especially about the decisive timing/reacting! As for crouch walking, I try to avoid that and go for just normal walk speed instead, only running when needs be. I crouch when I’m looking about the area to see if it’s safe, and then usually stand up to walking speed to go over. Also, thank you for the advice on taking hits/downs to get more of the team to safety! I had a match with a trapper quite recently and he was hooking us all in the basement, we were all trying to save each other, but kept stepping in his traps, eventually he successfully hooked us all...it was a quick match 🤦🏻♀️😂
@Mang_Anwar Thank you for the reassurance and advice! If I receive a message from someone from a DBD match its usually positive so far, I definitely didn’t see a teaming accusation incoming. Glad that most of my messages from other players are just “gg” and “thanks for the game.” But I know if I was playing on PC/anything with the endgame chat I’d most likely skip it without a seconds thought, for sure. I’ve heard a lot of negativity can pop up in the endgame chats, I think. 😣
@Raven014 Thank you for the reassurance and the advice! Luring the killer away with a repaired gen or some other distraction is something I try to do, in the first match I probably should have finished the gen instead of watching the killer shack waiting for the killer to leave...though I don’t think the gen I was on had even been started, and I thought my teammates would die before I finished it. Still, I’ll think more about whether the situation calls for a lure-away with a gen or an attempt to save/take a few hits for the unhooked survivor in the future. 👍
