General thoughts/suggestions - Silent Hill Chapter
This chapter has been quite a mixed bag, but I'll try my best to summarize some of my general thoughts, observations, and suggestions.
Pyramid Head:
Thumbs up. No complaints about how he works mechanically. I've seen a lot of people asking for his power to be tweaked in a variety of ways, but I think it's fine.
What he does need, however, are more interesting add-ons. I have some suggested changes/additions below.
New Map:
Gorgeous and full of amazing details (props to the art dept), but...
... I'm going to echo the sentiments of many others before me in that the new map is absolutely miserable balance-wise. It shares many of the same problems as Haddonfield. It's very frustrating when you hear survivors working on a generator directly above you, but it takes a minimum of 45 seconds to actually get to them. Unless you're Nurse, of course.
Sound:
Sounds are once again utterly broken, and when you give us a massive indoor map with poor line-of-sight and a million little hiding spots, we really need them not to be.
Falling survivors make no sound, neither during the fall or when landing.
Survivor footsteps and panting on the new map are completely silent, even when injured.
Slugged survivors are completely silent about 50% of the time.
Sound occlusion makes some generators that are being worked on completely silent until you approach it from a specific angle.
There's tons of videos demonstrating how broken sounds are right now, already.
Perks:
Survivor perks all seem pretty decent and interesting.
Killer perks, yet again, are extremely circumstantial and not super useful.
Trail of Torment has potential, but making the gen appear yellow for survivors turns what could be a really solid, simple, useful perk into a very niche, circumstantial one. I understand this was probably done out of necessity, since extremely mobile Killers like Billy could make good use of it, but on standard mobility killers like Pyramid Head, it doesn't seem to yield that much value as is.
Suggestions:
- Rework some of Pyramid Head's add-ons. Make a rare or ultra-rare that gives your Punishment of the Damned the ability to inflict Torment. Buff Obsidian Goblet so you can stand still on your Rites and still get the Undetectable (Wraith and Huntress have add-ons that do what certain perks do, so I don't think it's unfair that Pyramid Head can have built-in Insidious). I'd also feel like a singular add-on that only slightly reduces the cool-down after using his power wouldn't be too strong, but maybe I'm asking for too much.
- Stop giving us rare add-ons that inflict hemorrhage for no reason. I get that it's meant to synergize with Bloodhound, but nobody runs that perk.
- Open up the new map a bit more. There's plenty of ways to drop from the second floor, but not very many ways to get up. A layout more like The Game might be better. I never feel like I can't get to a staircase in that map.
- No more giant, multi-tiered indoor maps. They are miserable for more than half of the Killers. Making every single pallet unsafe isn't the most interesting way to balance it, either.
- Two possible changes for Trail of Torment: Keep the yellow aura, but buff the duration (25-30 secs instead of 16) - or - Keep the duration the same, but the yellow aura either only appears briefly (2-3 seconds) or will only appear yellow to the survivor when within a certain proximity (20 meters or so). I feel like one of these simple tweaks could make the perk drastically more viable.
Welp, that's my two cents.
