A Question about Hex: Devour Hope

As we know, 5 tokens on hex: devour hope grant the killer the ability to kill survivors.
So what will happen if the killer has 5 tokens on devour hope and down a survivor, but the hex totem is suddenly cleansed by another survivor during the interaction charge of the mori? Will the survivor be killed?

If they've started the mori, than they get to finish it if the totem is cleansed.
If it's cleansed before the mori charge up starts, than the downed survivor may not be mori'd.

I've had this exact situation happen to be. The totem was cleaned mid-mori. I was allowed to finish the mori
