"Slugging at 5 gens"

So this is a common complaint I see from survivor players, I even seen Tru3ta1ant (a killer main) criticizing killers who slug at five generators.

However, every time I hear or see this complaint I ask, why should the killer not slug at five generators?

Unless the killer is using a slugging build. Often the reason the killer is able to slug is due to survivor teams mistake. For example if I down a survivor and I see other survivors are close by, either working on a generator or trying to position themselves for a flashlight save, I'm going to leave the downed survivor slugged and go for the other survivor.

However, if I decide to slug a survivor as I see another survivor close by but that survivor either has sprint burst or runs to a strong set up. I'm no longer in a position to be able to afford to go after that survivor, as it'll take me too long down them. So I go back to the slug survivor and I hook them.

My decision whether to slug or not to slug, is based on the situation when I down a survivor. Not based on how many generators are remaining. Also five generators remaining can quickly become four gens, three gens, two gents, etc remaining.

Comment your thoughts and opinions.

The biggest thing I can think of is bloodpoints, or pipping. Slug all 4 immediately and you probably won't even safety

If i have the opportunity to slug one person and immediately chase another im doing it. Idgaf how many gens there are left, what tru3 thinks about it or how much the survivors complain. Its not like when theres only 1 gen left 1 of those survivors is going to say "i shouldnt help finish this gen, theres to much pressure on the killer."

    F that

I personally agree with you and play exactly the same way. I don't care about pipping whatsoever, and getting fewer bloodpoints for one match is outweighed by being able to end the match and requeue quickly. With that said, I definitely do make an effort to two-hook everyone before killing them when I'm way ahead. It doesn't always work out that way, but if I see someone that isn't on death hook I'll chase them first.

It all depends on how you're using it. You downed one person and there's another nearby, yeah slug and chase the other person. If you're just constantly slugging trying to win with a 4 man slug, yeah that's pretty lame.

The other part is slugging at 5 gens can feel like the killer is going to be super sweaty. And let's face it. Games are never fun when one or both sides play super sweaty.

I think it's a case of it being your call as killer, but in terms of the game it's obviously really boring to spend 3 or 4 minutes bleeding out.

So it's definitely your choice, but also you can expect some unhappy survivors. Sounds like you don't really care though, so you do you.

This is a pretty fair opinion, the slug is buying me time and forcing survivors off gens. If i go for a hook that's more time they can get gens done and then go for the save. I feel this same way when i see people leave hooks and not even contest unhooks, makes no sense to me.

Pretty much my thoughts as well.

Whether I slug or not has absolutely nothing to do with how many gens are left. I slug if the situation arises and the survivors put themselves in that position.

Whether that's at 5 gens or 1 gen is pretty irrelevant to me. I capitalize on the situation whenever it may be that it comes.

I feel like this hate for slugging at 5 gens comes from a lack of playing killer most the time. Killers don't just go into a game pre planning what time they want to slug or not slug at. We slug if the survivors misplay in a situation that makes it an advantageous choice to make.

Or simply because everybody has DS and they're forced to.

Tru3 himself slugs up to 3 survivors at 5 gens if he gets a chance to do so.

The only reason he won't slug all 4 survivors is his beloved pip (that you definitely need on red ranks for whatever reason) so he will usually let them recover to a point where he knows they can't win anymore while factually MILKING said survivors that clearly don't belong to red or purple ranks.

Personally I consider it a feat of skill to literally speedrun a 4k. If all 4 survivors are REAL red rank players INDIVIDUALLY they won't get slugged and they will split up and pump out gens even while injured.

If everyone gets slugged in 1 minute they belong to yellow ranks. Just my opinion.

I wouldn’t mind if a killer did that, at least you hooked. I just had a game where the killer slugged all 3 of us and hooked and face-camped the fourth survivor who DC’d on hook. Instead of hooking us and ending the match he left us to bleed out. It was the most boring and frustrating match I’ve ever played. That said, when I saw where the player was from I wasn’t surprised and he was so toxic in the end game chat for no reason. We clearly weren’t swf, we didn’t have flashlights, etc. not sure what his problem was.

If a killer wins too quickly the survivors only got themselves to blame. In my opinion going easy against on bad survivors can make matters, worse as you'll give them a pip they didn't deserve, they'll remain playing at a rank out of their depth. It will be unfun for them and they'll also make the game unfun for their future team mates.

However, if you play normally and they depip, they're more likely going to be able to play against killers at their skill level.

Plus playing against potatos is unfun, if I'm playing against a team of potatos I just want to end the match quickly, so I can maybe get a more challenging match in my next game.

Ironically when I get a called "sweaty try hard" the match was in fact incredibly easy. In matches where I actually have to try hard is when I'm playing against a strong team or a coordinated team, from a survivors point of view those games are "fun" for both sides.

I got nearly 2k hours in the game, I'm past caring about pipping and ranking up. In fact, it's harder to STAY AWAY from rank 1 then it is to get to rank 1.

I've been a rank 1 killer for a long time, when you constantly have to deal with bad manners from survivor players you start to not really care about whether the survivors are having a fun game.

I try my best to play fair, I'll go out of my way to avoid tunneling and camping. I do it because I find it more fun to play that way, rather then doing it for the survivors benefit.

@Nutty_Professor you're the one who asked. That's why slugging at 5 gens is pointless no points, no pips. Just boring

Yeah, I rarely slug, I just happened to have all the stars align with haunted popping while everyone was close.

I had a few games where killers just slugged every one and let em bleed out. It's a BS way to play . Some people just want to be douches.

Here's how I decide when to slug at 5 gens. Down a survivor, if I know there is a flashlight, I will fake the pickup, get a free hit and snowball map pressure. That, or I see an easy free hit after I down the survivor. Killer is all about time efficiency these days, and with maps being as broken as they are, it's pretty necessary sometimes.

Outside of specific builds I find it too risky.

If 1 side in BF or Halo is completely dominating the other side and spawn trapping them, the game is a dull bore until it ends, letting the other side have a chance is more fun for everyone

    same logic applies here

I made a slugging build with Pyramid Head once and I was garbo at it. So I stopped. It's really not a good idea unless you're playing with a character who can insta-down people or keep them from getting up.

I hate getting slugged just as much as anyone else, but lately I’ve been finding it easier to play against sluggers just focus on gens away from everyone else and wait to pick someone up until the other survivors are spread out far enough. I won’t go for save anymore if 3 survivors are down right next to each other and won’t crawl away.

That complaint usually goes to Slugbilly or Sluggerface. People who pick a chainsaw killer and use one slugged survivor as bait to catch more trying to heal, usually with Insidious or M&A. Honestly, idk why insidious is in the game, it just encourages scummy plays that de-pip both the killer and survivor.

Let's not be gatekeepers. You ain't a real gamer just because you have some arbitrary checklist of skill and ruthless logic to back you up. Take a chill pill and maybe step back and review your priorities.

Don't expect people to play to your standards unless you want to be treated the same way. Because I guarantee you there are some people out there who think a 31,999 game means you're a garbage player who should uninstall the game, because you're obviously trash in their eyes.

As a survivor main I am going to give an opinion that a lot of other survivor mains won't like. But I totally agree with what you are saying.

Do I like being slugged? No. I don't like it whether it is at 5 gens or 1 gen. I hate it even more when my whole team is getting slugged. However, more often than not when a killer is slugging multiple survivors it is because they are practically asking the killer to do it. It's like they willingly offer him a gift and then get upset when he takes it. I definitely get upset in those situations. I'm just not upset with the killer for taking advantage of opportunities survivors foolishly lay at their feet.

Its not the killers fault if the team is bad and its not toxic to wreck them.

I expect red rank survivors to play like red rank players. If they get slugged at 5 gens they never belonged to red ranks.

I shouldn't have to hold back at any moment throughout a match just because my opponents made it to red ranks by cleansing dull totems and farming altruism.

You could technically make the same argument about slamming the gens in 5 minutes with no hooks. Sure the killer's enjoyment of downing survivors matters?

  • Terra92
    Terra92 Member Posts: 583

Again, that's an arbitrary expectation. Red rank to you means something entirely different to me means something entirely different to a dev means something entirely different to a streamer, and so on and so forth.

There is no defined list that makes a red rank. You get there because you get there. Sometimes your red rank teammates are potatoes and sometimes you become the potato because you're just having a bad game.

We're not gatekeepers. This ain't MLG. No one's getting a million bucks for looping the killer for seven minutes. Don't take the game so seriously and don't expect players to play at your level just because you have the same number/color in the top right corner of the screen.

Why should I hold back, though? If all survivors are around me and refuse to split up allowing me to slug them all - why should I ignore that chance?

Slugging for map pressure is good strategy and very healthy strategy for the game. Oni,Plague and Myers usually slug for pressure. slugging complaints usually come from billy camping slugs and hooks. The irony is that billy is getting removed from the game, so it won't matter.

  • Terra92
    Terra92 Member Posts: 583

I'm not saying you should, not at all. If you want to play ruthless killer no mercy that's all you honey. You do you.

What I am saying is that you shouldn't expect everyone to play at your level, regardless of the color or number of their rank.

Before, killers were complaining, boycotting, and threatening to leave because queue times were high, because there were fewer red ranks due to the difficulty of getting there. Now there are loads of red ranks and you're complaining because they can't be as good as you expect them to be.

You cannot have your cake and eat it, too. These are the sacrifices the devs made to fix the problems players before you were complaining about. It may have even been you.

The game is only as competitive as its playerbase. And the playerbase is not very competitive.
