Will the new per killer MMR reset monthly?
I like the idea of MMR but if it resets monthly that kind of defeats the purpose imo. Does anyone know the answer to this since we can't see the MMR?

Does it? I think its just the ranks. But then they haven't spoken much about how MMR works in detail yet.

Yeah but if you have a high mmr it will probably make the queues longer. I think it should reset only a % of your total MMR, so you don't end up with new players.

I don’t think it resets which could be a bad thing cuz at a point as survivor you will only be seeing spirit nurse oni etc cuz on killer you can only reach a certain mmr with most killers before you really can’t go up anymore cuz they are all too weak to compete with the depip squads

Why should the MMR reset?
1 -
Actually that's exactly why I'm excited for this MMR change. It will make the depip squads only go against killers who can actually deal with them. They won't get the choice to bully killers anymore. I love that idea. Then it will also encourage buffs for the weaker killers so they can actually compete at those levels. Everything is better in this idea.
@LetsPlayTogether Well considering that ranks were what were used for match making and it being the pseudo MMR, it would make sense to assume they might try the same thing with the monthly reset which I hope they don't.

It does not reset. It's a hidden number purely used for matchmaking, it's not meant to be something you grind for each month/season. Ranks will continue to reset each month and you'll be able to focus on getting those to rank 1 if you'd like, but they won't be used for matchmaking purposes anymore.

That's awesome to hear! I really hope this change immensely helps with the match making issues.

I have a terrible feeling people will still go into matches and lose for the intention of lowering their MMR. Much like people try to derank to get easier games.

No yeah I get it that’s how I hope it works to I’m just a bit worried it may make some unkillers unfun to play

I hope that this will be much more time consuming and much harder to tell when you're actually getting the results you want. Right now it's very easy because it's based on only a few things whereas the new MMR might focus on different mechanics, and you instantly know what rank you are at all times.

I don’t think they’ve ever stated it resets at all. Generally MMR resets through seasons on other games but those can be 3-12 months apart. If it’s monthly reset and I rortate killers like I do now I’ll never be “high MMR,” meaning I will be going against potatoe survivors teams

What's the point of the Ranking system if the MMR system overrides it?
0 -
I'm guessing they'll use it for a reward system since it resets. Like if you hit R1 you get a cosmetic or something to dangle off your hook. Something like that I imagine.
0 -
Yeah I think they mentioned they’ll use Rank for something like that but didn’t disclose details yet.
Cosmetics, bonus BP, anything would be nice
0 -
They're keeping the ranking system in place for future possible use such as maybe giving special cosmetics or bloodpoints if you reach certain ranks.
0 -
They've said that rank isn't really a determination of skill but more so how much you've played in a month. I'm guessing keeping ranks is so people have another visible goal they can work towards. Kinda like how Player level means absolutely nothing other than getting Iri shards but I'm still paying attention to it and looking at how long it will be to get to devotion three right now.

I think it should depreciate a little over time because it will be hard to maintain a MMR on every killer. Like if you played 5 matches on each killer and rotated through the roster your first killer is gonna be a little rusty.
2 -
Yes I hope there is some slight deterioration over time but nothing too drastic.
0 -
Yeah, I think it needs to degrade slowly over time. Simply because if I don't play for 6 months I don't want to come back and be matched like I've been playing the entire time.

That sounds so boring

So why add a new ranking system that doesn't benefit anyone besides possibly making matchmaking more horrific to go through with how bad the queue times are already? Is there some sort of compensation that we will get out of this? How certain are you guys that this will even solve any of the problems that matchmaking has anyways?

It's going to be rough in the beginning no doubt but the idea is that when everyone is settled into their actual MMR the average game will become much more balanced, including high elo players.
0 -
Not a total reset, it resets to a certain amount to avoid what I said(going against new players). It should reset but not per month. More like a half year or more.
1 -
But wait, if it never goes down at all, so in like a year or so in your main killers will be facing sweaty teams constantly? Seems like it will progress to more difficult and more difficult over time, but Im not a game dev so this may not be the case.
I can just imagine if you play a killer even decently for a length of time you will no longer get players you can play nice with and it will be complete sweat fest after MMR plateaus?

So there's no point in ranks anymore. Why even keep them? It's not like you're rewarded in any way, now.

I just realized something. the top tier players will play one of a few killers and they will get high mmr's with them, and then though they aren't good with some others they are still GOOD killers, that should be taken into account. ALSO Survivor A gets really good with say the ONI, but not a nurse. how will the game decide to match them? will they be seeing more ONI's than anything else? this is something I just thought of.
thought not specifically about a mmr reset but it's something to think about

This is an important question too, I think it should go down over time but not on a monthly basis as that's far too often. @Peanits can you answer this question too? Is there going to be some mechanism in place to lower your MMR over time so you don't come back after a long time facing the same elo you were when you were playing often?

Yeah I don’t like that part of it, I am an above average but great killer. That being said I will absolutely dominate any new or “bad,” players. So if I mostly play Pyramid, Wraith and Spirit but if some random night decide to play Pig because of a daily I don’t think the game will be fair for survivors.

It goes down if you lose. So if you win a bunch then start facing really strong teams and they all escape it will go back down

Could it at least slowly degrade? If I don't play Huntress for like 6 months, I probably don't want to come back to the same MMR rating I had then.
