A way to prevent newbies from getting thrown into trials against experienced players and vice-versa

If my understanding is accurate, the MMR algorithm tries to figure out an approximate MMR by placing people in trials that are at the extremes and then seeing if their MMR is higher or lower than that, like trying to guess a number within a certain range and only knowing if your guess is higher or lower than the number you want.

Assuming this is accurate, I think newbies (people who literally just started to play the game) should be placed on the 25th percentile of the MMR for at least their first trial. If their true MMR is deemed to be higher than that, they should be allowed to match with others up to the median (50th percentile) MMR on the second trial, then the 75th percentile if it's even higher than that.

My thinking is that someone who just started out is not going to play at an above-average or even average level, so they should be restricted to the bottom quarter of players. Of course, if they happen to be some kind of prodigy (or a smurf account), you want them out of there ASAP.

However, people who have played many trials before but don't have an MMR should be automatically placed at whatever the average MMR is. My thinking is that someone who has some experience should, at the very least, play at an average level. Even if they don't, this will isolate them from the newbies and vice-versa, leading to a better experience for all players.

That seems to be a reasonable suggestion. I've seen a lot of people complaining about the new system without sufficient data to really give any conclusions, so I'd really like the devs to release some information on exactly how the new system works as well. There's been enough people seeing completely new players in matches they don't belong in that its likely an issue and not just an outlier.
