Devs, we need a link between matchmaking and ranks!
In my opinion the new mmr system doesn’t works well, cause how you see in all this posts in this forum, „newbies“ have to go against veteran players with thousands of hours and that’s just not fair and that shows in the most cases that ranks matters, at least a bit ;)
One of the biggest issues of the new matchmaking is that players can not classify how skilled the other player are. I think it’s very important that we get a link between ranks and matchmaking in some way and it’s not a solution to hide the ranks! Maybe we need a rework of the ranking system too, so that the rank is corresponding to the mmr or ranks could be replaced by a new mmr-rank?!?
Disadvantages of the new mmr:
- new player are matched against veterans
- matched with newbies only because you don’t play one killer not enough
- incomprehensible matchmaking
- killer can’t switch character in the lobby (there were many reasons why a killer want change, we all know)
But to be honest I think to implement a mmr in dead by daylight was/is a big mistake! The only problem of the ranking matchmaking the last months/years was that there were to many „boosted“ survivors on higher ranks so that we had very good players which belong there but on the same side to many which not. The result was that we didn’t have enough players on the other ranks for killers on the same rank color. That could have been fixed with a few simple changes:
- make piping for survivor harder so the players were on their real rank
- remove rankreset
- prevent intentional deranking: a player can only derank to the same rank of the next rank-color (for example a rank 2 can’t get a lower rank than rank 6)
- possibly introducing a new „training-mode“ where player can try and practice, that could be a solution for example if someone wants play nurse the first time
What you think about mmr and ranks or could my solution be an option? Feel free to leave a comment.

Though I agree with you, I would like to point out one monkey wrench in the analysis of the current MMR system.
Depip'ers. There is a significant number of players who intentionally avoid ranking up so they can play in "easier" pools of players. I've seen survivors and killers who openly do this. Whether it is a player who runs Bubba here and there to score some toxic kills by face camping/basement camping after rank reset; only to stop once they hit rank 13. Or survivors who have smurf accounts (killers too) in order to torture newbie killers.
There are many that I know the steam profiles of who I have seen complaining about MMR matching on the steam forums. They cry and whine about being paired vs red rank killers/survivors, but fail to acknowledge that the MMR is doing exactly what it should be doing in their case. They are better than the newbie pool they refuse to leave. Thus MMR is pushing them into a harder arena, and they hate it.
That does not discredit your points, you have lots of valid ones. I just want to make sure these scummy players (yes, they are scummy for feeding on low-skill players new to the game) are not left out of the equation.

I agree, There has to be some sort of implementation of ranks (Playtime) with MMR. I am tired of getting matched with survivors with less than 10 hours while i have 3k hours.
MMR is not a solution to boosted survivors because they can still get boosted with the current MMR (AKA SWF). I also want some sort of divisions to know where am being placed on the MMR ladder, some sort of incentive and not just play random games not knowing if i'll be playing against a top tier killer or a baby one who doesn't even use his power.
