Is this a bug or a new feature? (Exit gates)

I play on PC (Steam) and I just had one match where I left an exit gate at 99% and left to help my teammates and, when I came back, that same exit gate wasn't near 99% (like 80%). I know some players have been suggesting this change so I don't know if it's a bug or a feature, but I didn't read anything about it.
