Hopefully more streamers will push for a practice mode like Otz just did
One of the things that I've been saying for a while now is that DBD on mobile has a far better setup than the main game itself has. They've been using bots for awhile now, and it's through those bots that they've been able to implement a practice mode.
Otz was bewildered that BHVR hasn't been heavily promoting a feature like this, because he acknowledged that this is something that should exist in the main game as a lot of people are too scared to tackle killer. A lot of gamers don't want to compete while they practice, and a training mode is the perfect solution for that. He also acknowledged that the only way to get better is to compete against actual people, but at least you can get your bearings straight with a practice mode.

Me too. At the rank I'm at with killer, I tend to face off against purple and red rank survivors, and the last thing I want to do is sweat my ass off tackling a killer that I've never played before.

Yeah..... you almost just have to go into a new killer at high rank with the goal of just getting 1 person on 1 hook 1 time... and no sweat if you don't. Just slot NOED and M1 at the end for a little drama. Bonus points if your Deathslinger and you catch a guy doing the teabag boogie in the end gate with a long shot.

I managed to get a kyf going (which isn't easy for someone in my shoes) so that I could practice blight, and holy crap I'm glad I did because it would have taken me probably 20 matches just to get used to his mechanics against skilled randoms.

I've never gone into the match as a new killer at red rank and thought i was going to get 1 hook, I don't think that's ever happened, I don't get why so many people make out like the killers are these complex characters with button hit combos you have to learn, they often function off one or two mechanics that are incredibly simple.

To each their own, but there's no denying that Killers like the blight and nurse are extremely hard to grasp in high ranks if you've never tackled them before.

Yeah, it is a little frustrating that the mobile version has bots that replace disconnected survivors and the ability to use those bots for a practice mode, both those features would be much appreciated in the main game. I'm under the assumption that the main reason we don't currently have bots on PC and console is simply that, since mobile was developed kind of from scratch, they had some extra flexibility in working to include bots as a feature, but in a way that isn't easily compatible with the main game. So basically they'd have to redo most of their work on bots to implement them on PC/Console.
I'd love to see it happen but I can only imagine that it's a matter of them determining it's a really big resource commitment and they have other things that are taking up too much of their pipeline that are higher priority.

I'd love to have a bot/practice mode. Pretty sure it's something on their list, I just hope that they might make it a higher priority (if it isn't already).
Beyond using such a mode to develop your own skills/confidence as killer, it could be an excellent way to relieve frustration. Had a couple of really bad matches that soured your mood? Why not take all that anger out on bots who will happily accept such abuse instead of continuing the cycle of toxicity and ruining someone else's day?
Aside from maybe introducing more bugs, I see nothing but positives to adding in something like this.

I think Tofu also has good suggestions, as does Space Coconut and Tericho. Granted the last two have been very opinionated about DBD as of late, but for good reason. They love dead by daylight, but there are many things that need fixing.

Exactly! The mobile version has a great setup: in practice mode you get fewer blood points and less experience, but at least it's a great way to test out the mechanics and blow off some steam after some sweaty matches.

But I am not sure about bots tbh.
There are a lot of survivors who are disconnecting on death hook. Imagine sweating your ass of to kill someone just to get that person replaced with a bot that is able to do gens and even more. That would honestly break the game.

But at least it's something to replace the person that disconnected. A bot can work on objectives, and the Killer can still get a kill if need be. Honestly it's kind of a win-win. But at the very least bots should definitely exist in a practice mode.

Why cant you practise and learn with other people like I have done?
Why should BHVR make a mode that increases wait-times for those who actually play multiplayer?
My personal opinion is that people who suggest this feature are kinda coy, and you should get in there and play.
Are people so afraid of getting killed or get no kills in a game? Chickenwuss.
Go in fail and die, its what the game is about and its how we learned the game.
Last thing BHVR needs these days are another waste of their work, time and money, like the Tutorial Mode.

The community has been asking for training or casual modes (aka a more forgiving mode) for ages.
Until now, the reasoning against such mode was that it would split the community to much.
But i think the contrary would happen. As some people just don´t want to play ranked. So they prefer not playing at all.

They could literally just overhaul KYF and allow you to add in Bots.
At the very least it would give new players a chance to understand how their Loadout works and practice basic things like skill checks or a rough idea of how chases go.
But nah, would be going against their practice of pumping out the newest DLC every 3 months and undermine the entire point of selling Beginner Perks like Technician, Windows Of Opportunity, and Visionary as DLC.
You do the bare bones "tutorials" then get thrown into poor matchmaking and hope you learn anything through the struggle.

I´d love to test out builds without sweating in ranked or having to ask a friend. The Bots could even be modular. Giving them more "skill" depending on the level on training you want.

"Like I have done" Dude, this is literally how the game has to be played right now. You aren't somehow special for playing the same way everyone else has been playing since it is forced on us.
Anyway, many players don't enjoy losing and for some its impossible to actually learn the Killer if you never actually get any time to use them since most matches will just end in 5 minutes.
You've given basically no reason there shouldn't be a training mode except "wait times" but, I believe, wait times will barely be affected because more players would be less likely to quit due to frustration of having been demolished by Survivors for the last hour while trying to learn the new killer.
Mobile version has it. It can't be that hard or time consuming. 🤷♀️

That or we simply get two modes.
Causal and Competitive.
Just give the people that play Competitive really good stuff and they'll want to play instead of being rude trolls that go play causal and sweat.

The most frustrating thing is the fact that they can use some of the assets that are in DbD Mobile which means it wouldn't actually be hard to add. If they don't they're just lazy, or their superiors are way too greedy to even listen to their decreasing community.

Considering the objectives of survivors aren't taken very long this would only increase the frustration of being gen rushed.
I would say that Bots could only work if the player disconnected before his first hook. Everything after that is too much time invested and not a win win for both sides.

After watching his video I thought about that. Bot mode would be amazing....but can it be feasibly implemented in base dbd?
We all know how cobbled together the game is, it was made years ago and bhvr has just, as naturally happens, become more capable in what they CAN do, but they're hobbled by the weight of what they weren't seasoned enough to accomplish when they first made the game.
Some of these big systemic changes we want...would they require complete overhauls? If they aren't required...would they be the best way to have most control?
Would there need to be a sequel to justify the work? Or could we literally just have a complete rebuild to serve as a "sequel".
Dbd's a little weird like that. It got bigger than it was meant to, and now it's kind of trapped by itself in some regards.

At the very least it could help you learn the basics with each killer. Trying to practice against highly skilled players is not something that I particularly enjoy doing.

Otz goes into that in his video. There are many people that don't have friends that they can play with online to get a custom match going (and even if they do, not everyone enjoys kyf). Plus there are a lot of people that don't want to endure toxicity while learning to play. Not to mention anyone who plays DBD knows that it has abysmal matchmaking, which can easily lead to new players getting worked over repeatedly.

I played with a friend last night who hadn't touched the game in quite some time, and he needed practice getting used to skill checks again. He would have loved nothing more than to be able to practice before stepping into high-ranking matches with us (but sadly that's how it goes with DBD). He was just thankful that he normally plays Feng because at least technician prevented him from blowing skill checks, but it took him ages to finish generators.

I would still prefer a practice mode, but I'd be comfortable taking a casual mode. If players want to be sweaty because their rank matters that much to them, then they can have the ranked mode and leave the casual mode to those of us that couldn't give a crap about rank.

It can be done, they just need to lay off new content for once and focus on the game's health, and implement a practice mode while they're at it.

That's the thing though, they might not be able to get bots functional in the base game as readily as mobile. Since mobile is new, mostly ground up I'd assume, and likely built with scalability in mind in a way that wasn't realistic for early days dbd.
Like, maybe they want bots but as the game is now bots won't work? Or maybe the task is a lot bigger than we assume. Well have to see how it goes, given enough demand from the community.

I did read that reply, and to be honest it was really frustrating to hear. A practice mode is something that gamers have been asking for long before the mobile game was a reality. Gamers have been hearing "it could happen" for four years now, which means that it most likely will never happen.😕

I would like to believe that, but considering where BHVR's priorities seem to lie, it's hard to believe that they would be willing to listen to the community.
In one of their recent streams, one of the big questions asked was whether or not they would devote a chapter to game health, which goes to show that that was a question that was upvoted numerous times, so they had no choice but to answer it. And they answered it in the same way they did with the question pertaining to a training mode, in that it's a "possibility".
They say the right things but they never seem to do the right things. Actions speak louder than words, and right now the last thing we want is nicer graphics/cosmetics, with more DLC characters that will just bring with it more bugs and glitches. What the community wants is for the game to work the way it's intended, and to be given a practice mode. It's not like we're asking for the moon here!
