Matchmaking taking character level into account
I'm still a baby, just passed my 100th hour. I know basically what I'm doing but I'm at the point that I'm clearly not as good as most of the base, and that's okay, I'm learning. I try really hard not to be toxic and say positive things every game and that's really easy to do as a survivor since it feels like I either get mori'd in 3 minutes or win my survivor games with no in between now that I'm rank 5.
As a killer, it's... awful, at least at 10-8. I prefer being a killer by a wide margin but have spent most of my time as a survivor working on tomes. Following Otz, I worked on Bubba first for bbq, then plague for her perks, and I just sort of let my dailies sit because I kept getting killers I have never played before. But now that I feel like I know basically what I'm doing, I decided okay, let's give it a go. Pyramid Head, Legion, and Plague. I started with Plague, it's been a long time since I've played her but I know what I'm doing. Got my daily done and two kills in one go, teabagged for days, not too shocking.
I have never done anything on Legion or Pyramid Head. I guess it was stupid of me to hope that it'd be taken into account for matchmaking, but holy cow. Legion gets four red ranked gen rushers with toolboxes, BNPs, clearly on comms and I lose in about 4 minutes. Then another team with two flashlights, a key, and a map--and from the first game I didn't even get enough points to go from level 1 to level 2. Pyramid Head got three games in a row of roughly the same to the point that I just started basically not-quite-camping to finally send people to their cages because it was absolutely... not fun. I know it's a git gud issue and I probably would've had a chance on Bubba since he actually has stuff unlocked...
But that's the problem. If I go start leveling one of my non-leveled survivors (almost all of them), I completely hamstring my team. Do YOU want a level 1 Felix against that Ruin/Undying/BBQ/NOED Huntress? I sure don't, even if they're reasonably smart. They're helpful, but they're not great. If I want to keep working on killers, I'm in for 6-18 minutes of having taints dragged across my face until I finally get stuff unlocked. I could just play Bubba or Zarinna and funnel points into other characters, but then I'm not learning the character.
Why not have that included in matchmaking? I'd happily wait longer for a more fair experience for everyone. When I'm on a survivor, if I get a new killer, I don't have fun just going to the gens, repairing them, and leaving. If I'm a killer, I don't have a lot of fun slaughtering four noobs (those are usually the ones that I just let win once I get the jist). It's just hard to keep the community building and not like wading through toxic waste when it feels like 75% of the survivors are happy bullies and with face camping being a thing, it feels like the matchmaking could be a little more friendly towards people just learning without being mocked by the super cool people who have played for thousands of hours.

I don't play new killers at all until they are at level 50 and I have most of my favourite perks for this reason and I think it is the best strategy.
When MMR is re-released it is planned to take into account how successful you are.
