5 Perk Slots Would Increase Creativity

We're currently capped at 4 perks, this sucks for a variety of reasons.

  1. Certain perks are more or less required in order to compete in the lowest ranks, as well as higher ranks. This includes DS to prevent consistent tunneling, Pop/Ruin to slow down gens, etc.
  2. A vast majority of the perks (mostly for survivors) currently aren't used in most builds, due to them requiring multiple perks in order for them to be of decent value. (Flip Flop + Unbreakable/Power Struggle, Ruin+Undying, etc.

If you want to use a niche build built around one idea/playstyle, you more or less have to fill 2-3 perk slots in order to achieve this. With more and more niche perks being added, this means you have to sacrifice your ability to survive or play efficiently in order to play around with the more unique perks. This really is disappointing because I think that the developers have made many perks that are interesting and would probably get more use if the player base didn't feel like they HAD to sacrifice so much in order to use them. I'd wager that a majority of the community rely on certain perks for success, and would also like to be creative with their builds, but due to the nature of the game and it's perk restrictions it's very difficult to use niche perks and still be competitive.

Let's also not forget that the number of perks that the first version of DBD had on launch was SIGNIFICANTLY lower than what we have now. I believe that we're now pushing 90+ perks in the game now for survivor/killers. There has to be a ton of perks that are generally just not used in builds by the community, and that's sad considering some of them would probably make the game a lot more unique.

I completely agree. At this point there are way too many perks for only 4 slots.

I mean, do you really want survivors to run DS, UB, soul guard, exhaustion AND adrenaline/object? Likewise do you want killers to run ruin, undying, tinkerer, BBQ and another perk of their choice be it enduring, stbfl, sloppy, Thana, etc.?

Edit: just realised a fifth perk slot would mean I could run shadowborn permanently in my builds and say goodbye to the god awful FOV without sacrificing 25% of my build just to be able to have an acceptable amount of vision in a game in 2020. So ######### what I said before I'm all for it.

No you need to be more creative if you use less perks. Five perks is too much would not be fun.

Okay, you can't be serious. It's a joke. Funny tho.

I mean... I've seen posts like this before, and the answer is always the same - It'd be balancing hell. Either the Dev's themselves or the Mods have confirmed it's never happening. If it did, every single perk in the game would need be reworked. The game is balanced around 4 perks, not 5.

It wouldn't, pretty much everyone would take 1 more perk that's closest to meta.

You can already do 4 fun perks on both sides without needing to use even 1 meta perk and still do fine with a non meta build. Everyone just choses not to use anything besides meta perks so 1 more slot wouldn't change anything except more imbalance.

More perk slots would just increase the amount of stacking either 2nd chance perks or gen slowdown combos making the matches even more frustrating for both sides.

Disagree. I believe five perk slots would lead to more homogenized builds, since you now have more room to included all the best perks.

That would add much creativity but much toxicity as well.

Survivors with DS, Unbreakable, Dead Hard, Object, Adreanawin.

Killers with Ruin, Undying, BBQ, Tinkerer and also Noed if they get the 2 Totems instantly.

Forever Freddy with Ruin, Undying, Thana, Dying Light, and Tinkerer.

I probably wouldn't even take Dying Light. Maybe Sloppy, Thana slows them down if they don't heal, but Sloppy slows down healing.

Personally what I think would be disgusting on Freddy is: Corrupt Intervention, Pop goes the Weasel, Dead Man's Switch, Nemesis and BBQ/Thrilling Tremors.

Corrupt will block the 3 furthest gens, which means they cannot start repairing at the start immediately. After hooking anyone, you get Pop to regress gens and BBQ will tell you where to teleport.

Nemesis makes anyone to the Obsession who stuns you and hooking the Obsession activates Dead Man's Switch. So getting stunned during a chase and down that Person will always activate DMS, you now just need to bait a teleport to block a few gens for free, combined with the Teleport Add-Ons (Nancy's Sketch and Nancy's Masterpiece) for maximum stall.

That would be a fun and interactive experience. Now I know again why I don't play Freddy.

you know what would be better than 5 perks? not having important accessibility or quality of life features tied behind them. Then people could actually take different perks without feeling like they are forced to sacrifice slots.

Flip Flop is great alone, Unbreakable is not required. Idd say, Players are incredibly un-creative with the use of perks.
