Victor, the "B-Word" and the rules
I have noticed lately that streamers have been going out of their way to not use the "B-Word" when talking about Victor. Specifically talking about a true video i just saw where he twice calls it a "Baby" and a "Kid" and then quickly corrects himself and says "It is so hard to not call it a baby"
I have also heard that people are being banned from the Official Discord for saying it when talking about Victor.
Serious question and discussion. Is this against the rules? I looked in forum rules in the sidebar links: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/137-forum-rules and can't find any reference to this being a problem.
Please do not lock this thread, close it, or ban me. This is the only method i know of to contact mods/devs. I'm not talking about any specific bans for any users, i'm not even part of the discord so i wouldn't know who was banned for anything if they even were. I am just going off of things i have heard about and trying to understand if this is something that is against the rules and is actually punishable.

Pretty sure there was some drama about it lately. They don't really like you to call Victor a baby.
I still say it a lot, or when someone kicks him I'm like 'MY SON' even though I know full well he's her brother, he just... feels like a baby.

I have also heard that people are being banned from the Official Discord for saying it when talking about Victor.
No, people are not being banned for calling Victor that. The thing that gets punished is for child abuse comments due to Discord TOS not allowing any kind of comments like this - we ask people to refer to him as Victor. He is not a baby, but an undead monster.
If after a warn you continue though, it keeps escalating and depending on what type of comments are made, possibly multiple Discord TOS rules are being broken.
Some platforms have different TOS than the forums that do not permit any kind of comments like mentioned above by a few users already - they're extremely strict on those, too.

Basically I think there's a Twitch rule that prohibits depicting violence against children. Therefore Behaviour really, REALLY doesn't want to have to deal with problems on Twitch and other platforms from people mistaking Victor for a child since he honestly looks like a feral carnivorous monstrous baby from hell. That's why they're being extremely careful to emphasize Victor isn't a child and are trying to push to make sure streamers and such aren't calling him a baby, even in jest. They don't want even the implication that he's a child to be taken seriously.
I don't want to kick the devs when they're down, so to speak, but to be honest this is a problem of Behavior's own making to some degree. They could have made a killer that mechanically controls two avatars look like anything they wanted (e.g. A hunter and a wolf, a ventriloquist and an animated dummy, etc) but they went with something resembling a baby carried around by a peasant. Not much they can do about it now unfortunately, this horse is long out the barn and they're not going to redo all the lore and animations just to stop people making memes and stupid comments. I feel a little bad for them but I'm also a bit surprised they apparently didn't see these memes and jokes coming. Live and learn I guess. 🤷♂️

I am pretty sure with the dirty release of this chapter, and putting a literal baby in a muder game. This chapter was BHVR simply testing their boundaries to the limits.
2 -
Behaviour would have no issue, it's the user that has the issue - they are the ones that get banned and streamers can be banned if they don't remove people from their chat if the comments go into child abuse, that's why we advise people to get out of the habit of saying "baby" and we don't use it ourselves, because he simply isn't a baby.
As Luzi says above, different platforms have different rules, Discord is particularly strict as is Twitch currently...here on the forums we have more leeway which is why we don't have a big issue, but we do remind people that Victor isn't a baby.

Oh! The Ventriloquist would have been such a cooler concept than The Twins from a design perspective too, the dummy could sit on their shoulder and cosmetics could actually affect both instead of just changing Charlotte and keeping Victor looking the same no matter what the cosmetic is.
2 -
It's funny considering he is a 5 year old child. And then bhvr being hypocrite about it and telling you it's against TOS
0 -
He's an undead monster - the TOS part has no relation to BHVR. They hold no power over other platforms like Discord or Twitch. They have strict guidelines on any kind of child abuse comments. It's up to the user and streamer to be aware of this and not break the TOS of the platforms who have those guidelines.

I understand twitch or discord part, that has nothing to do with you and they have certain rules. But why is it not allowed on the forum for DBD discussions? Especially when we make it clear we're talking about Victor (one of the killers in the game) and not about child abuse.
2 -
Not sure about anyone else, but I'm finding the whole situation hilarious.
It's a baby!
No it's not!
Yes it is!
No it's not!
But it looks like a baby!
It's an undead monster!
The jokes are the best thing about this chapter.

I did research on that topic since my forums was taken down for calling viktor a baby for fun,and it is exactly as the mods describe it. I wanna believe that the devs had the viktor idea for a long time, and had to recreate the twin's lore in order to not be against any rules and such. They do kinda get away with this, so I guess it's ok

Please refer to what MandyTalk has said:

BHVR: makes a baby like character
Fans: its a baby
BHVR: you are banned permanently from the discord server

Jesus, is this really a problem? It looks like a ######### baby, it sounds like a ######### baby, and it even goes inside charlotte like a freaking baby kangaroo, so why people cannot call it a baby or a kid? It's a video game, doesn't represent reality, is like people complaining for violence against animals on GTA V.
It's a videogame, and does not promote any sort of violence against kids in real life.
If anyone think that it does, then that person and/or entity is plain stupid.

Sure it's the users getting banned from Twitch. When I say it's an "issue for Behaviour" I mean that a false narrative about one of its characters that can cause Twitch users and streamers to be banned is obviously a reason for concern for the developers. I'd be honestly surprised if the company's PR isn't keeping a close eye on it.
A really rough analogy would be people eating Tide Pods was a real concern for Tide, even though they clearly had no intention of them being eaten and it's the people who eat the Tide pods that suffer the consequences. Yeah it's the user's fault if they do it but it's a PR concern for Tide as well so they tried to make sure they were getting the word out not to eat them. Similarly here Behaviour understandably doesn't want to see its players and streamers get in trouble or banned for a false narrative about Victor being a kid, hence their strong push to make sure the word is out not to say he is.

You: not understanding a single word of what the mods were just explaining.

It's a problem for Twitch and Discord yes, because of their Terms of Service...that's something you need to take up with them.

Me: I dont really care im speaking from personal experience

Actually I think a Ventriloquist Dummy skin for Charlotte and Victor would be pretty sweet. Victor in a tux with lines on his mouth and such to make him look more like an animated puppet and Charlotte in a tattered performer's dress (a bit like Blight's Top Hat look maybe). I'd consider getting that skin. 👍

Yes, from what I was previously told we can call him a baby. But we can't say things like "crush the b**y" even though it's a mechanic in the game.

I hate to get involved like this, but I was under the impression that depicting violence (and encouraging through gameplay mechanics) against a child-shaped human characterized by a telltale young mental age (inability to willfully control speech functions as evidenced through sporadic shrieking and the like) is frowned upon (even if the image of the human is only reanimated by a mysterious force).
To be more succinct, I see Victor's child-resemblance like a speech-deprived, much more child-like-in-stature version of Lenny (Of Mice and Men), and I already have extreme doubts about portraying and encouraging game violence against a re-animated, significantly younger Lenny. I'm not sure how Victor is so different, and I'm concerned about that.

If the Stick of Truth can get away with it here, the sky's pretty much the limit.
3 -
Oh really? I thought bith the twins were the same age? Did BHVR really include a 5 year old undead minor in game?
0 -
So I looked it up cause I thought victor was Charlotte's age... Was victor killed at 5 years old and reanimated into a monster by the entity?
0 -
Yes according to the lore. After Lil' Vic died Charlotte continued on as his corpse continued to rot throughout the years
0 -
Huntress herself is an example of another killer with more child like faculties. Although survivors are unable to enact violence against her, and unlike victor she has fully physically developed.
0 -
And Victor was reanimated by the entity to lure in Charlotte? Him actually being 5 years old, albeit reanimated... I can see how some view it as problematic.
0 -
I see now... having a 5 year old, albeit a reanimated one, certainly can be problematic in some regards.

Victor looks like a baby. Anyone who doesn't keep up with the lore -- i.e. 99% of players -- is going to just use whatever shorthand they think makes sense for the Twins, and "baby" is an easy go-to because that's what he's visually reminiscent of. I try to refer to them as "the brother" or "the sister" as shorthand -- but whatever the case, I imagine Discord mods really ought to take this into consideration, given that this is in reference to a thing that exists in the game.
1 -
It's not in the hands of the Discord mods, that's the point - it's Discord ToS, Discord are very strict about what has to be done with regards to people breaking their rules...and anything connected to child abuse has to be dealt with, and sadly there are people that regularly cross the line with the comments.
1 -
Ahh, I see. Just imagining the kinds of things people say, that must be a modding headache.
0 -
ah yes the killer called the twins are 2 characters of different ages

And would fit perfectly into the carnival version of Prenn. Then flesh out an outdoor all festival map later on. Maybe even a mexican Day if the Dead inspired one. I love the possibilities here!

I get the intention to punish people for putting "kick" and "baby" in the same sentence as child abuse is horrid and should never happen.. but at the same time this is a game and people need to stop taking everything so literal.
Victor will always be a baby to me though, and kicking him is a pleasure after he fails to rip my face off.
2 -
I've been going with his name or things like "the lil f**ker is loose" and the like when I stream, but I mess up from time to time as well.
0 -
Ikr. I thought they were the same age too.
0 -
Pretty sure it's against the rules. All because some people got offended over it.
0 -
If I understand right, saying "kick the baby" which is a well known reference, isn't going to get you banned from any TOS. It's a well known South Park reference. Please correct me.
If you go into graphic detail about how and when and where and why and just how far and all that....... Well you're just kinda a sick individual at that point lol and I'd assume THAT would get you banned..... Because it's gross.
Also, afaik, there is no law, no rule, no "decorum" that says you can't have either child killers or child victims in this game. There are no laws that I'm aware of, no video game shenanigans.... I'm pretty sure the only reason why BHVR couldn't put a "kid" in the game is only their limits.
If I'm wrong, please feel free to cite laws, rules, etc. I assume the worst that would happen would be they'd get an M rating..... Isn't that what they have now?
2 -
Yeah uh if u say baby 3 times in a Victor post.... Bhvr comes to your house and ds you.
0 -
Jeesh. If you didn’t want people to refer to Victor as a baby, then you probably SHOULDN’T have made him look like a baby. Either accept it or redesign it to look more like an Alien Chestburster or something. Usually when you try to stop people from doing something it only makes them want to do it more.

I am calling it "Not a Baby". It's the best name.

I'm closing this thread as it keeps going back and forth.
I will just reiterate that due to some platforms TOS, there may be consequences to the comments made. You are responsible for what you say. If you receive any consequences, there is nothing we can do for you - there have been warnings several time of what could happen depending on what is said.
In regards of Discord: While I do get it might be confusing, the team on Discord is following Discords directive and TOS. The official Discord has been created way back in 2016 and went through many changes - becoming official, verified and partnered. We have always made sure with Discord what is okay and what isn't on their platform and Discord tends to be very strict.
Refer to him as Victor or undead monster, or even tiny Goblin/Gremlin, whichever you prefer, just not as a baby as a) he is not a baby and b) depending on which platform, it can get you in trouble with the platform.
On the Forum we do have some leeway, like Mandy has specified earlier, but on other platforms - those are not ours. We don't own Twitch or Discord, they have their own guidelines and rules to follow that need to be followed on all servers/channels.
