Rework DC Penalty system

Hey! So, I've recently finally gotten back into this game and Finally got some better internet, But I've recently had to deal with alotta DC penalties because every now and then my internet goes out for about 30 seconds. the company I get internet from doesn't understand why, we've tried some new routers and they think the area just has frequent outages, normally this is okay, but with the really long decay (It's like 4 days to go down one freaking DC tier) it's making me unable to play this game at this rate, to when each time it decides to die on me for those thirty seconds I'm immedately thrown into this "congradulations you now need to wait so many minutes/hours/days" before you can play. I'm about ready to drop this game all together and never touch it again if the system doesn't get some sort of like, "DC limit per day" sort've ordeal, just something so that I don't need to get screwed over because of something that I cannot fix and I have no control over.

Another stupid excuse to abuse DC penalty.

I don't believe that your provider can't figure how to deal with your problem.

And if thats the case, then hell no i would want to play with you on my team, cause you can dc any second leaving us in a disadvantage.

Fix your net or don't ruin games for other players.

But your story sounds bs anyway, like all the others that want DC penalty removed. They are making exact same excuses.

  • Keep in mind, it's not an excuse, and it's not that I'm dcing every single hour, but every 3-4 hours (Usually, based on general testing) It just. "Goes out" The company keeps saying it's an area bandwidth overload or some #########, I don't freaking know, that or a "DHS/DNS connection issue" My point is, I'm not asking for it to be outright removed. I'm asking for like, either a slight decrease in the cool-down timer, or at least a basic 1 time penalty free DC a day, so atleast if it does happen in the time I play I don't get completely cucked for the next 3-4 days.

  • Sorry DNS/DHCP Issue*

The problem is regardless of the reason for your DC it's still ruining the game for the 4 other players...which is why we have the DC penalty to discourage people from DC'ing.

Sadly, there's nothing we can do to distinguish between a genuine internet issue DC and a ragequit - which is why all are penalised the same.

All I can suggest is to keep working with your internet provider to try to provide you with a solution as to why your internet is dropping out, and use an ethernet cable to connect to the internet as it's usually a lot more stable than wifi.

  • Unless my comment I Just posted got booted I'll type a reply, just posting this to be sure as I had a decently long reply to your comment

  • TL:DR

The statement "there's nothing we can do to distinguish between a genuine internet issue DC and a ragequit" is false, unless you're talking specifically about internet being pulled. but there's an obvious distinction between the game sending a "quit" request and the internet just stopping. all games have this sytem in like. base code. so yes there is a difference.

But what something this game doesn't do that other with dc penalties do. is that usually first time dc's are ignored for that day

    EX:

    Everyday you get (1) DC.

The penalty is there to prevent people from dcing all the time. and most of the time now people just suicide on hook to prevent a dc ban.

but what happens if the server crashes, you get a cool-down/penalty , but you didn't disconnect, the server crashed. games understand when the server crashes, (Call of duty series is a great example, you cannot say there's no way to tell, there is.)

or you're in my senario, just occasionally your internet will go out due to you being in the inner-city, and every now and then it just, dies for roughly 20-30 seconds.

a 1 time free dc gives players the ability to get back into the game without major punishment, but it doesn't outright remove the penalty,

    lemme explain:

If my internet issues keep persisting, and my DC times get to be 72 hours per dc, and I have that one free dc, I get on to play a game after the 72 hours are over, mid game, going well, internet crashes, No worries, the penalty isn't stacked on because It was the first dc of the day, day goes on and I don't need to worry about not being allowed to play the game for another 3+ days because of something outside of my control.

Ragequit -> If you quit, you quit, once a day. everyone's human, and everyone has that moment when they're just done. I feel it's healthier if the game understands this, and doesn't slap you in the face because you're done for today, but oops. previous incidences from 4 days ago stacked up, and now you can't play for 3 days. w h a t

There's MULTIPLE ways this system can be improved. and although it "does it's job" show the hook suicide rates in comparison, does it really or how about when killers just go afk because they can't anymore. does it really?

refusing to make the results public doesn't help the situation.

at the same time. having a system that is die-hard punishing to people who don't have gamer-top-tier-145 mb/s internet, or internet that doesn't fail suddenly getting removed from the game due to an issue that isn't their fault is going to keep killing player counts.

It's not an unfair request to ask for the one free dc a day. I'm sure many people who have been in my shoes would agree this would be far, because it has these benefits

Pros: Innocent people who have the occasional DC/Crash do not need to worry about getting booted out of their game for how many days, or have to stop playing for so many days just to not risk getting booted off for more then 3 days.

People who praise the penalties for stopping DC'ing still have that feature, if someone uses it up, that's it. no more, next one just continues the penalty, it still prevents massive dcing, but it forgives the innocent people who just have issues.

In retrospect I'm surprised and disappointed DBDL didn't add this as it's main system. as I feel it would have caused alot less back-lash for the DC system if it was at least a little forgiving. and in the end if you wanna fix that problem, especially since everyone knows about the amount of bugs this game has. is being somewhat forgiving wrong? it's kinda ######### that a game that can be great uses this *guilty until proven innocent* mentality when it seems to forget that we're in a world where crap happens, and that not everything is malicious, and having a slight forgiveness can go such a long way.

The thing is to be locked out for 3 days - that's an awful lot of DC's, we're talking more than 1 a day especially given that the first penalty is only 5 minutes and it's specifically kept short because of the issues that you brought up.

There's a decay rate with the penalties, to prevent people from abusing the system because there should be no "free DC" because again, you are ruining that match for 4 other players.

Sorry whilst I understand the frustration that you feel I also feel the frustration of players when someone DC's from a match that they've queued a while for, and the game is ruined through no fault of their own or their equipment.

  • I said "roughly" 3-4 hours, There have been times where it'll go off again after thirty minutes. I do 8-12 hour runs because I really enjoy the game. so it can have a 2-4 dc's a day situation in some cases if it really hates me. having to stop playing for days upon end to be able to play the game though is really starting to make it seem like this game really doesn't care about people who can't get anything better. You think I enjoy the internet going out? or that I haven't tried to get "better" internet? it's because I live in a city in a "high bandwidth" zone or some #########. I cannot control that. what do you suggest? "Just Move Lmao" this system could be worked better. especially when occasional crashes of the game cause DC's. and YES you CAN tell if the game crashes, the game itself has a system for it. if anything you can make a simple freaking NetVarHook in the game, so that if it opens up the crash report screen or it forces one open, IT DOESN'T GIVE A PENALTY, it's not that complicated.
