When are they addressing keys?
Kind of insulted that the devs snuck in a last second nerf to Mori's but still didn't address the keys at all. We're just told "they're working on it." What is there to "work on?" Make it so keys don't open the Hatch. Done. That's the problem in a nutshell.
Now mid-chapter patch happens and they say nothing about addressing the keys. I'm sure they're just hoping we've forgotten and stop asking.

So wait, what the hell is the worth of a key then if not to open the hatch? No one takes the green key because it's worthless as hell.
Both hatch keys have a timer and Endgame Collapse begins once it opens.
I play plenty of killer and I've never had a problem with keys. Seems like most people just don't like that the hatch exists and are salty over that.
My favorite argument? Keys end the game faster! Uh, yeah, what about moris?
If anything the nerf to moris was necessary to balance out the game. At best the only thing they'll do to key's is lower the length of time the hatch stays open.

They will change them after the community makes 100 more threads like this 👍

Keys will always open hatches the devs have said this due to their being achievements they can't change on console. They talked a while back about how they'd need new animations and such for the key change so it will probably be a timed action now or something.

Of course one of these guys appear, trying to change the narrative. So, you think it's 100% fine that a guy does a last second key switch in the lobby or a survivor lucks out and finds a key and instantly escapes?
That is the problem. Keys open the hatch instantly and can let everyone get away and it's almost impossible to counter them. You can use Franklin's but survivors can just drop the item in a spot so other's can pick it up (and they will do that if they're SWF) or better yet they can just DC so the item will stay instead of you sacrificing them and it disappears (not unless they use an add-on so it stays).
This is very easy to understand but survivor mains refuse to listen just like the devs.

Hell, i usually drop the key in a hidden spot near killers shack so i dont get tunneled, and thats solo queue

Doesn´t matter much I anymore. Most matches someone last second switches to a key anyways, so if and when key changes come in patch 9.5 there won´t be any more keys left to worry about anyway.

Hence the reason for this thread. Again, not difficult to understand. The devs should be communicating what they intend to do with keys and when the change is happening. That's all the community is asking. This is a very simple request especially considering the last possible second mori nerf they snuck in.

Keys are a difficult rework. They're simple and straightforward, so there's no complicated mechanic you can tweak to balance them. Really, it's either you keep them or remove them. The devs have to put a lot of thought into how to rework keys without unintended consequences.

Do we just not read more than one sentence? I literally said I play killer and I think people are obsessively salty over keys.
Sure they're annoying, sure they open instantly with a key. Know how often I get a key? Almost never. If it's a SWF, they're gonna ######### you up, it's what they do, they're co-ordinated, more so than randos. You're real problem isn't the keys, it's how the survivors utilize it against you.
If a survivor hides a key and they're not in SWF and they die, then it's all for naught. If they don't, they need to get to the key AND go straight to the hatch. If they aren't the original keyholder, they have to have seen where the key was, know where the hatch is, and still get from point A to point B. Tell me what part of that doesn't require even a smidge if skill?
The point is, if you're salty about how survivors are using them, you're salty with the survivor and not the stupid metal toy in their hand.

There is nothing wrong with keys. If they change keys to do anything less than what they currently do that will be the final straw with me. Keys are a backup plan. They are extremely conditional and if a killer lets those conditions be met then the survivor deserves to be able to use it. Half the time I play a key I end up dieing or losing it to franklins and other times I barely make it to the hatch to be able to use it anyway. Keys are not a problem!

Dull key should let one survivor escape. Skeleton key should let multiple survivors escape. Or both only allow one survivor to escape and an iridescent add-on (so no finding it in a chest) allows multiple survivors to escape.
Also change the hatch to only spawn when one survivor is left (in which case it will spawn open) or when all five gens are done. No more multiple survivors escaping without finishing all the gens. No more hatch campers. DCing to give someone the hatch becomes a lot less viable. There's no good reason for the hatch to spawn when the number of gens done = number of survivors left + 1. It just encourages unhealthy gameplay.
But when are the devs actually going to change keys? We have no idea, and I doubt they'll tell us early.

There won´t be any hard nerf for sure, because the key is a survivor thing... there will be probably a timer or something which does nothing at all...
when you have a 3 gen and are about to 4k, and they go for the hatch, 3 people will escape... you cant defend gens and look foor the hatch the same time, while the survivors can 100% focus on the hatch. When 3 people escape via hatch in my games its usually when they found a key, and there is nothing you can do about it, if the hatch doesnt spawn right next to your gens.
is it unfair? yes it is. But like i said, its a survivor thing, so it will stay. Mori was a killer thing so it had to go, like ruin, undying etc.
But tbh, the harder the devs push survivor gameplay, the harder i go on playing killer... its very likely 1-2 people bleed out on my regular games because i turn them into a slug fest from the start, so i dont have to deal with the other broken stuff like DS, BT and so on...
In my killer games, survivors don´t get any points for unhooking at all... they stay on the ground all match.

Easy Solution:
Keys can only open the hatch after it has been closed

They're already addressing keys but obviously aren't going to announce to us when they're dropping the change, because you know exactly what will happen...there'll be keys in every damn lobby.
0 -
There's already a ton of keys in every lobby because survivor mains know that the key change is happening soon.
0 -
There's a ton of keys regardless of any changes. But they're getting changed soon so let's play on and see what happens.

Better yet, delete keys and give their aura reading add-on's to maps, so that people actually use them.

1 - 2 years on the key nerf. personal opinion only.
