Mettle of Man needs a rework.
The issue with the current MoM that I've noticed is that protection hits are extremely unreliable, I've taken numerous hits for a survivor to which I thought were protection hits but weren't registered.
The Old Mettle of Man
The old version worked better, in order to get stacks you just played the game normally, and would try to force m1 on killers with powers to get stacks, this of course was slightly OP on M1 Killers, the Wraith in particular, but the old MoM worked, and it worked well.
The New Mettle of Man
In order to get stacks you have to change your playstyle so drastically that you're essentially begging for hits, by running to the killer who is carrying a survivor to force an M1, or hook bombing to take a hit during the unhook. They're the only reliable ways to get stacks currently, and they're extremely stupid things to be doing.
Conclusion
It needs some kind of rework, either BHVR needs to rethink how "protection hits" are detected or they need to decide on a new method to get stacks, because the current protection hit system is busted.

What if it was the same as old mettle of man but you lost your stacks when you were put into the dying state

This seems to get brought up every few months and I think it's valid. Again I always point to "fog whisperers" and casual players who really complained nonstop about the original MoM because they'd have one bad game against it for every 10 successful ones. I loved Hybridpanda and I hope he returns soon but he was at the forefront of that nerf movement. He wasn't alone, to be sure, but I remember him constantly talking against it on his Twitch streams and Twitter. No one took into consideration that you didn't get a stack against:
Nurse coming out of blink
Hillbilly and Leatherface chainsaw
Wraith hitting out of an uncloak
Pig on a dash attack
Legion in a frenzy
Hag getting a hit immediately after teleporting
Huntress hatchets
NOED from the healthy state even with Mettle activated.
There might be something else I'm missing but it was absolutely not guaranteed every match. It carried the same risk/reward as Deliverance and yet, none of the streamers who paid to have their opinions heard whined about that.

What would help MoM and WGLF is redefining protection hits. Presently, it only constitutes taking damage when another survivor would have gone down. Why does it not count if they would have gone from healthy to injured?

Or they could just take protection hits. Giving survivors an extra health state is huge. This perk is only held back by the fact that protection hits are unreliable.

I love that idea, although I would take off the aura revealing bit with that version. You could certainly hunt for hits to try to activate it just like you do now, but you could also use it as a reward for taking protection hits and chasing well. You'd also have to heal in order to use it, so I definitely don't think it'd be OP. In other words, even if you get it to proc, you had to waste quite a bit of time healing first.
I would also consider removing the injured state requirement (i.e. if you ate a chainsaw at full health you would just go into the injured state instead of getting downed). That way you wouldn't be forced to stay injured just to make sure you can use your MoM.
I'd use this perk all the time. You could couple it with Aftercare to have a fun mini game of trying to power up your character before you get hooked.

Yeah or even maybe keep the aura reveal and change it to when your hooked you lose them instead of when your downed

Yeah that's not a bad idea either!

I definitely like these suggestions of how it could be reworked, bringing back the old MoM hit system but adding a mechanic where you lose stacks from being downed/hooked is a fantastic idea. It gives the perk a risk and reward element to it, where as the old MoM was pretty much a free safety net against M1 killers and somewhat useless against killers like LF/Billy etc. So I like this idea that MoM can activate when you're healthy, but also you lose stacks from being hooked/downed. It'll be quite difficult to get stacks against killers who can 1 shot you, but that's what's good about this new MoM idea, it has some counter play for the killer and rewards skillful play on the survivor part, i.e don't go down.
