Revealing Ghostface issues

Ghostface's revealing mechanic is wholly inconsistent. I did test matches on PC with other friends in SWF to collect this data.

Below I've listed scenarios that we experimented with. Each of these scenarios was repeated while Ghostface was crouched and standing, and I've also had survivors staring vs panning their camera across him. Scenarios 1 and 2 below were also repeated while survivors were in a locker. We did not run the Driver's License addon which reduces the range at which he can be revealed, but that could potentially be another variable for testing.

We have tried revealing Ghostface in the follow scenarios:

  1. Looking at him face-to-face
  2. Looking at him from a short distance
  3. Looking at him while he's partially behind an object
  4. Looking at him while he's completely (or near-completely) behind an object.
  5. Looking at him when he's leaning around an object
  6. Looking at him while he's moving around in the open.
  7. Looking at him while he's moving around with objects to conceal him (trees on Red Forest)

I repeated each of the 30 unique combination at least 10 times to find if the behavior was consistent.

Surprisingly, the most inconsistent behavior was while staring directly a standing Ghostface face-to-face or from a short distance (#1 and #2 while standing and survivor staring). There are sweet spots involving character positioning and camera angle to actually start revealing him, and once you start revealing him there's no issue in doing so until completion. But in most cases it didn't matter how close or far you are or how you positioned your survivor; you're just not able to consistently reveal him.

We found it is generally easier to reveal him while he's crouched. The game consistently reacts with the musical riff when glancing at him. Something unintentional we found is that if a survivor pans their camera across a crouched Ghostface who is leaning around a corner, he will continue to be revealed even if the camera is no longer looking at him.

We also found that if Ghostface begins to be revealed then hides behind an object by crouching or turning a corner, he will sometimes continue to be revealed even if totally obscured from the survivor's vision. Also, some objects that appear like you should be able to reveal Ghostface behind (like Lampkin Lane picket fences and picnic tables) do not always let you.

It is be very frustrating for observant survivors to stare directly at him and have the game not react in an expected way, and instead become exposed and downed without ever hearing the "revealing" riff begin. The triggers for when he becomes revealed or when the revealing stops need to be examined more carefully to ensure they're firing off when expected.
