Bug? Hitting people when they unhook teammates fails

This happens a lot after the recent patch.

I'm pretty sure the hit didn't even register: so when I was playing ghostface today, I hit someone unhooking while my nightshade ability is activated. My ability did not deactivate after the hit, nor did the person become injured. I've spent more than a thousand hours on killer and is pretty sure that isn't even a questionable angle for a hit (I was directly behind the person unhooking). This is a bug that's only happening after the previous patch, and it happens a few times a day.
