Cleansing all 5 dull totems isn't easy, actually, because you're going to have people wasting a crapload of time. Time that is made even more valuable by the killer simply not having NOED.
"Do Bones" is not counterplay. Doing bones is significantly stronger than NOED. If there was a perk that forced survivors to cleanse all 5 dull totems before the exit gates could physically open, it would be meta. NOED isnt, it's just a crutch, because the killer having instadowns while the gate is open is only good for facecamping someone to death.

What counterpoint? This is a thread about NOED, not Dead Hard. Whattabouting just obscures the entire conversation and devolves it into a bunch or morons saying "BuT yOu HaVe ThIs AnD yOu HaVe ThAt AnD..."

Just doing totems is the counter-play sadly. You can do either 5 or 1 totem to get rid of noed, the first gets rid of it entirely and the second is only 14 seconds if the killer doesn't find you doing it. It's not a crutch because the killer only has 3 perks the entire match.

The point is, NOED is probably a killers only real "second chance" or "crutch" that has no earning requirement.
Survivors meta is filled with them. You don't get to piss and moan about the one that killers have.

Please, go cleanse all 5 dull totems. Every trial. And escape.
I cannot stress this enough, a perk that permanently blocked the last generator until all 5 dull totems were cleansed would 100% be the biggest and hottest new meta perk in DbD. This is the counterplay you are suggesting exists.

Run small game and it won't be luck based. The killer also doesn't get any benefit throughout the whole match, except for the end.

Right? Literally 2 perks (Small game, Detectives Hunch) and 2 items (Maps) that tell you where all totems are, and even a perk that incentivizes breaking totems (inner strength)...but it's a "huge problem".
Perhaps we should be looking at perks that actually don't have a counter. Basically, none of the perks on the killer side.

If you know all the totem spawns then there's nothing to worry about and all 5 totems should be cleansed. Well if its too much risk in the end game, take care of it before it gets to that point. Its not BS, its literally two situations where you can take care of a perk that could not even come into play.

Cant do bones cause it takes too much time, but also cant do bones in the endgame cause its too dangerous.

You know what else is lazy? Not doing bones. Especially if you "know all the totem spawns" and have multiple perks/items to tell you where they are otherwise.

If you use NOED, you're playing with 3 perks until the very very end of the game. If you're survivor, you can solo NOED before it spaws with relative ease by bringing either a Rainbow Map or Detective's Hunch. So potentially controversial opinion, but I think it's fine.

I swear I read in the survivor book that a killer must open the gate and let the survivor leave peacefully once all 5 gen are done.
I run inner Strength and Small Games with a flashlight. Let me tell you that Trapper's trap, Hag's trap and bones don't last long against me.

nah noed is pretty bad. it probably guarantees a single DOWN. and that is after all gens are done, if they didn't cleanse all the totems, and if they don't find the totem before you get it.
