DS still active when survivor opens exit gate

A survivor completely opened an exit gate, I downed them, picked them up, and their DS was still active. I thought it was supposed to deactivate when not being tunneled???

It's suppose to deactivate when the conditions in the perk descriptions are met. Opening the exit gates is not one of them.
