Quick Chat Concept - Solution for Console Chatting

Game chat for consoles... well practically it doesn’t exist. Because console players can’t chat fast enough since they need to use controllers and their system’s specific keyboard, they often don’t get to chat at all. But I have an idea to work around this, at least somewhat; Quick Chats.

In some other multiplayer games there is a quick chat option that you can use to send messages in the game, lobby and gameplay, and this is true for PC and console titles that have it.

Namely - and I know everyone is sick of hearing about this game from me, but - For Honor has this system. There are twelve chat options that range from random things like ‘good fight’ to objective instructions like ‘Go to Zone A’ or whatever. You can even string multiple together like “Zone A” “I Got This!” to try to tell others that you’re going there. I don’t know if they understand though, in my experience nobody has responded.

Anyway, this system exists on PC and console. On PC these quick messages take up the same text box as text chat does. This doesn’t matter much though since Ubi refuse to cross play For Honor but whatever.

We could do premade chat options for Console Players to communicate more easily, at least somewhat. Now originally I was gonna say we could have premade defaults and customs but the custom ones would probably result in entirely anger-centric chatting more than For Honor’s signature ‘Wow! Wow! Wow!’

There can be some default chats for pre-match and some for after-match. Something like “My perks are [game auto-inserts perks]”, or “My Rift challenge is [game auto-inserts rift challenge]”, or “My Daily Rite is [select one of three]”, just to name a few. You could also add stuff like “Do generators as much as you can,” and general advice like “Eyes open,” “Be careful,” “Good luck,” and so on. After-match can be similar like “Good luck in the Fog”, “You played well”, “I like your build”, etc etc.

The quintessential stuff. Nothing too special or overloaded. I don’t trust our community to handle custom chats the way they could be so I recommend those being omitted if BHVR takes this advice and adds this concept to DBD.

This can be integrated for all consoles and for PC. For PC players who are slow at using their keyboards as much as for console players who can’t use a chat box.

What do you think?
