The Continued Ignorance of Performance Issues Continues to Hamper Player Fun

I don't have any videos to share unfortunately. But I do feel your pain on with dead hard lags.
I play console xbox one and it's laggy as anything, I've checked my network run times so many times and it all seems to be going the way it should be. However if I'm activating some perks, sometimes they don't activate at all. It's so annoying. Had it with doctor so many times. Glad I'm not the only one with these kind of issues. I genuinely thought it was my side that was the problem.
Also at the start of the game it takes so long to optimise everything, gaming queue times both survivor and killers are awful.

It actually ticks me off that the game is both 1. poorly optimized on consoles, and 2. lacking cross-progression. Like, both of those things are bad on their own, but combined it's just... #########?! It's not okay. Console players get screwed twice over.
Poor optimization with ruinous frame drops, no decent settings so that killers don't play like garbage on controllers (just the one sensitivity option is not enough), and the fog makes the fans on my PS4 Pro go freaking nuts.
I mean, I love it when a survivor jerks forward and things freeze up and I'm trying to figure out if that was a Dead Hard or frame drops or a combination of both. Losing a chase because the survivor disappeared due to frame drops caused by 360ing or Bloodlust tiering up. No, man, that's cool, it doesn't matter that that can cost a killer three generators with nothing to show for it. It's totally fine that the game is balanced in that manner while also having these sorts of issues, no biggie.
When you add in all the other problems with the game (broken grabs, for instance, and aim dressing, and the mess that is dedicated servers), it starts to feel like I'm fighting the game itself more than I am survivors sometimes.
I know I'm bad at the game, and that's fine, but when the game itself compounds the problem by throwing frame drops and poor responsiveness at me to make sure I fail even when I'm doing well... [[sigh]] This is why I meme so much as killer.
I want to scream "Fix this nonsense!" but I'd feel like I'm screaming into a void.
Also... does anyone know if the audio is the same on console as it is on PC? I'm legitimately curious about this, I have no idea if all the platforms handle the audio and its directional information in the same manner.

Players have actually started disappearing in front of my eyes during a chase now and then reappearing either further ahead or to the left/right.
One of the biggest issues is the speed dash after a first hit. Like there a 60% chance I'll totally lose the target because it so laggy and glitchy & I struggle to see which direction the person went.

I have the exact same problem and it’s why I don’t want to play killer because random frame drops and frame drops from dead hard can make me lose a down and can result in me losing the game.
I play dead hard on survivor which almost always freezes my game and then frame drops also kill me a lot, which is why I’m glad that they’re getting rid of the button spamming on second hook stage because hopefully frame drops won’t kill me anymore.
Frame drops are also getting a lot worse with the new maps, and I die a lot on struggle stage from a frame drop on Macmillan maps and The Game map.
Overall though, this game runs horrifically on old consoles, it stops me from wanting to play killer and the frame drops kill me on struggle stage as survivor which makes me seem like a bad teammate and might result in my team losing the game. I really wish something will be done about it.

Just to be clear I have a 3060ti and an i9-9900k and am not bottlenecked on system resources but still stutter frames on almost every reworked maps.
3 -
I USED to play on the Switch & certain killers are unplayable due to the frame drops I get for no reason. I can't even play Plague or Blight due to their controls & latency just being way too punishing for the Plague. It may as well be a dev fact that they don't test regularly with controller or on the Switch.

If they acknowledge this post it will just be a "we'll pass it on to the team" or "we're working on it." When asked in Q&A it's "we're working on it, if you notice it feels better it's because we fixed something." Just very vague brush off responses that don't really give any real information. When they tell players to see if they notice anything performance wise feels better after patch but not what supposed improvement was it is kind of like the whole not saying release date of patches so if it doesn't come out on the schedule that has a precedent they previously acknowledged they can say "we never gave a date so you can't complain it's late" - can't complain parts of performance don't feel better after patch if they didn't officially say they improved performance in the patch.
2 -
I'll take anything at this point.

The last update we got regarding optimization was pretty much this (at 33:30):
3 -
And the one before that was fairly similar.
I haven't seen any improvements with the Twins FPS, tbh.
5 -
The only thing they did was fixing the FPS drop when someone loots a chest but the updates after that brought new ones in (Hooking and Unhooking survivors, icons appearing on your screen for the first time e.g Prove Thyself or Leader).
So yeah,we're still at 0 😧
4 -
Yup. Sure is fun having Prove Thyself freeze the game.
5 -
so much more than what you posted is why I have gotten so close to leaving dbd and its community, its not even fun anymore playing the game is straight up exhausting
7 -
I'm not close to leaving the community, but I am close to taking an extended break from the game, especially if this isn't fixed soon.
Sometimes, I make misplays, but other times, the game seems to be working against me and it sucks to know I was doomed from the start. It's incredibly frustrating to look at my old clips and see old problems go unresolved and have new problems pile on to an already prevalent issue.
6 -
I had FPS drop when I was near someone looting a chest the other day on one of the Crotus Prenn maps. When it happened I was like "wait #########, I thought that was fixed?" No one was injured, I had no status effects pop up, and no totems had been cleansed nearby - I heard chest open and the FPS dropped. 😔
5 -
Hmmmm I thought that was fixed I'll have to pay more attention next trip to that realm...
3 -
I did too which is why the FPS drop stuck out for me while playing survivor. Maybe some other trigger happened that I didn't realize at time but only noticeable thing was hearing the chest pop open. Was playing against a Trapper so not like it was Doctor or Freddy that come with triggers for FPS drops.

This is false.
8 -
It is false.
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War looks leagues better than DBD and has more going on. On my Xbox One X, it runs at a stable 45. I have never experienced a frame drop.
Battlefront II looks LIGHTYEARS better than DBD and has WAY more going on. It also never dips below 30 FPS, even in the most hectic 32v32 moments.
There is no reason that DBD shouldn't be able to hold a consistent 30 FPS save for incompetent porting or terrible optimization.
14 -
This is my biggest gripe with playing DbD but killer more so then survivor:
I's generally speaking fine when I lose because I got out played.
It makes me want to take another break every time I lose because the game couldn't stop glitching out.
Also using the plaid flannel standing still and watching my teleport spot icon spasm out while being accurate to where I'd blink to.
Or just more annoying ones like Heart attack blight which if you reactivate your rush in the last .5 seconds of its slam duration your screen blackens and you get the exhaustion scream.
But continue to rush while making the scream and darkened vision with every slam until you stop rushing.

I was not being serious but wow, if it still runs bad on the new gen then that's bad
1 -
Just for more reference, had this one tonight.
5 -
There haven't been nearly as wide-spread of reports, and I'd like to make that clear.
However, there have been multiple complaints of performance issues on the new gen.
4 -
On Ps4 Pro everything works fine
0 -
Again,it shouldn't be like that. DBD absolutely does NOT have more going on than any of those games.
DBD came out in 2016. Battlefield 1 also released in 2016 and is much more stable and runs better.
DBD's optimization is bad, face it.
9 -
These are the ugliest frame drops I've ever seen.
2 -
Again, you are on a new Console, which is $500, at least. There are also reports that performance is dipping over there as well.
Xbox One should be able to handle DBD no problem, since it handles other more intensive games just fine.
Logically, it makes no sense that DBD runs so poorly compared to other games unless DBD's optimization is bad.
5 -
Then games like Destiny 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 should run terribly.
But they don't.
DBD is unique in that regard.
Even with the new map updates, DBD doesn't look "good."
These two games look good and do not tax older Console's nearly as much, they also have more content in them.
10 -
That's good at least.
I'm glad one person has had a good experience.
5 -
They aren't very pretty, are they?
2 -
yeah, I’m very lucky to be the only console player with a good dbd experience.
1 -
Been getting harder and harder to enjoy this game for years. Note that every time the game starts bleeding players they put the game on sale for 50% off to pull in new players.
5 -
Ya its horrible. had a game yesterday. he throws down the pallet and im chasing him around it and I have a perfect shot and I swing and he ends up going around the pallet and I swing at the pallet lol I watchd it later on the guys stream and it looked so stupid like he was nowhere near the pallet I swung at.
2 -
If I don't turn off cross play I will get frame drops.
For killer if a survivor uses an exhaustion perk.
For survivor if the killer uses sloppy butcher, franklin's, or plays as freddy, and huntress with any of the status effect addons. If another survivor searches a chest while you are on the hook it will sacrifice you.
7 -
Sometimes my game crashes because it's so bad
2 -
You must share your secret ways with us please! :)
3 -
The game feels so much worse with crossplay on. Way more lags/freezes. I think that's part of the reason why wait times aren't bad as either side with crossplay off on ps4, so many turned it off because performance is even worse with it on.
0 -
I agree.
1 -
Please do, I'd very much like to know.
4 -
Dual hampster wheels? Tin foil on the antennas? Sold the soul to Nea-I mean to the Entity? Breaking bullets-level of Las Vegas luck?
2 -
Gotta be the hampter wheels.
4 -
No doubt. Maybe we all need to go green this way
2 -
Green you say?
2 -
Too perfect
1 -
I've had my game crash because of Sloppy Butcher before, so I feel that on a metaphysical level.
3 -
Perhaps perhaps.
1 -
Performance on PS4 is better if you turn crossplay off? Is that a fact? Gonna try that out today, really curious
2 -
Hope it works!
2 -
Same. I like to play vs PC players to get better at the game, but not at the cost of performance issues.
Its one thing to be outplayed by a better player and another thing to be outplayed by fps drops during the chase.
