The Continued Ignorance of Performance Issues Continues to Hamper Player Fun

Have you played against doctor? I played against a doctor recently and the frames dropped so much. Every shock was just a frame drop. It's absolutely terrible.
12 -
Had a Doc with Sloppy and Ruin the other day.
Every shock was a solid 2 second freeze.
6 -
Yeah my bad, guess I shoulda just played better.
I guess it's also my fault when the survivor I'm chasing Dead Hard's or when the killer hits me with Sloppy and the game ######### dies.
I'm just so over it.
4 -
I feel you. That's why this thread is here.
To draw attention to this BS
8 -
I'm supporting this thread all the way to keep it alive because it's absolutely unacceptable. They should definitely do something about it instead of ignoring it.
10 -
I agree.
I'm willing to bet that PS4, Xbox One and lower-spec PC's make up the majority of players.
It's completely unacceptable that they are seemingly ignoring the promise they made.
15 -
I doubt the devs will notice it, (or chose to do anything about this issue), but thanks for at least trying to bring some attention to the shitshow that is console dbd.
5 -
Maybe not.
But they addressed the colorblind issue.
7 -
It's been getting more frequent over the years.
Just in case it matters, I have the Xbox One X.
10 -
My console doesn't have none of the problems you have, BUT that's probably because I'm using a XB1 Series X which is basically, at this point, considered to be as powerful as a PC.
However, I feel like it's not fair to the other players who can't afford it. They paid for the game, they should be able to actually play it. Maybe, it will be focused on after the RE chapter? I know they probably won't have time to work on optimization when the developers are doing everything they can to make RE the best chapter ever! 😁
6 -
I'm still using the same Xbox One X I used when we played together.
I understand that 2020 was a bad year, but I desperately hope it comes with RE.
3 -
Jesus, man. You have so many examples. And this is some of the worst I've seen as well. I get screwed out of hits by tiny fps drops, so I can't imagine what you're dealing with. Why the heck did they even make a console port if we can't even play it?
11 -
Oh yeah, I remember! 😁
There's definitely a problem because a XB1 X should still be more than enough to run DBD, even at 60 FPS.
4 -
bold of you to imply the game was enjoyable on PC...
the same mode over and over and over and over again is just so tiring, stale and boring.
especially since they got the visual reworks going on right now, meaning we havent gotten a single new map almost an entire year!
maps are like the only thing that brings some fresh wind into the game for me and while i love the visual rework series from a, well, visual standpoint, gameplay wise the maps just are the exact same plus a breakable wall (unless you're Deathslinger or Trapper, who both got huge shadownerfs on those maps).
its just sooo repepetive...
and then, just like you mentioned, any form of consistency gets flushed down the toilet due to all the bugs, lag or RNG, making the game feel much less rewarding than it could for whoever gets the short end of the stick in those bug scenarios (like you do with the frame drops and 360s, or survivors in general with the current pallet stun bug - just to name a few)
5 -
I experience the FPS drops on my original ps4, my swf teammate is on ps4 pro and also experiences them. The Pulsar and OniWantsYourMacaroni videos is the same for me when I'm playing. No other game I play has these issues.
9 -
It should be, but apparently, DBD is much more intensive than Battlefront II, a game that looks lightyears more realistic.
13 -
Don't forget that the Survivor side of things also has to deal with Freddy's existence eating up frames, same with Doc.
Oh and Sloppy Butcher has crashed my Xbox before.
10 -
I didn’t realise how badly this game performed for some people on console. I started playing on PS4 and then went to PS4 pro and I’m now currently on PS5 and I haven’t once had my screen freeze. The only thing I experienced was frame drops when things like Sloppy Butcher was applied, but that doesn’t happen on my PS5. It performs really smooth. For both killer and survivor. 🤔
3 -
Most of the issues seem to have been alleviated on PS5 and Series X/S.
However, I have heard reports the performance is starting to dip already on those new Consoles.
5 -
Well hopefully I don’t experience it. I’ve found that the graphics and overall performance have been great. It’s stupid that a game like DBD has so many performance issues but games like The Last of Us Part II that have stunning graphics perform completely fine?!
I hope that a fix isn’t far away for the people like you who are having so many issues. 💕
5 -
I hope so too.
3 -
I'm honestly a little baffled as to why DbD still runs so poorly on console.
Like, I could go boot up a game that I assume is far more demanding on my hardware than DbD like Battlefield 1 (also launched in 2016) or Kingdom Hearts III (also runs on Unreal Engine 4) and have pretty minimal performance issues.
Yet in DbD I can count on regular frame-stuttering EVERY match as either role. I mostly only see similarly poor console performance in games that are several years older (like Just Cause 3 or GTA Online). I can't say this is the worst that I remember the game ever being on console, but it's certainly still holding the experience back from being as fun as it could (and should) be.
12 -
Just Cause 3 and GTA V also have WAY more going on.
I've not had too many issues with GTA V except for the entirety of the Online, which is a shitshow.
2 -
For the survivor as well there is frame drops when you use dead hard, when you use perks like lithe, when generators are completed, when someone gets hooked. It's a lot.
4 -
I don't understand why so many people are reporting frame drops / low FPS. This is admittedly completely anecdotal but I was able to get a 4K using Michael Meyers while playing the Switch Lite, with cross-play on, in a Walmart, while standing up against a wall. I've been playing this game for five weeks. Either I happened to get a bunch of people on other consoles who were somehow also newer and / or less skilled than myself, or the game held up well enough for me to be able to compete fairly.
I'm not saying that I don't believe you (I do, I have no reason not to), just that my own experiences, at least on the Lite (can't speak for the PS4) have been essentially identical to those on the PC.

Nvidia Geforce 1060, 16gb ram, 3.6 processor. Ultra settings. No lagging or frame drops whatsoever. Is this game really that inconsistent? Half my friends don't play it because they say that their computer can't handle it, I didn't believe them but now I'm wondering.
EDIT: I just realized that most or all of you are playing on Windows 10. I forced my computer to work with Win7 even though it's meant for (and some parts are falsely listed as only compatible with) Win10. I've heard that some games perform worse on Win10, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Wouldn't explain the console framerates that some of you are suffering with though.

Same. On PC, well above recommended requirements and every patch it just gets so much less stable. I've never played above low because honestly the only difference graphically is that higher graphics make the game darker, but with worse FPS.
4 -
Switch doesn't run at 60 FPS and has been heavily downgraded graphically.
I'm not sure if Switch has Crossplay with PC and other Console's.
2 -
Game is inconsistent in terms of performance yes. It might also might be because I have it installed on ssd I'm not sure.
0 -
No, I believe it runs at 30. What I'm saying is that I have pretty much the same experience on the Lite as I do on the PC. My performance averages the same regardless of which one I'm using. According to BHVR's own website it's cross-play with all other systems that also have cross-play, so some PC (or home console) players may be going against people playing a portable version of the game, and vice-versa.
You're correct about the graphical downgrade, that IS something I forgot to take into account, but (and this is subjective) I don't find it anywhere near as dramatic as people have made it sound. Some muddier textures here and there, sure, but otherwise the same game. This was done so it WOULD run as smoothly as its counterparts (which, to me at least, it largely does). Swapping between the two doesn't feel much different.

Yeah, Switch has crossplay w/ PC and others. I can use my Switch for private 1-player test KYF games and it's p cool.

....this explains the Nurse I went against the other day.
We couldn't figure out where she was playing from, my friends are on PS4, PC and Xbox. She must've been on Switch.
0 -
Wait, what was with the Nurse?
0 -
Oh boy
Switch Nurse 💀
8 -
She didn't do well. We all thought she was a baby Nurse and that the MM screwed up, but she was highly Ranked and had good perks/add-ons.
After the match, none of us could message her gg, and we couldn't figure out what system she was on. My buddy joked she played from a smart fridge and probably got higher frames than we did.
But she was on Switch. The poor gamer.
7 -
Wait, yeah. Oh my god I just realized how painful playing Nurse on Switch would be. Not only do they have low fps but the small screen... (unless they're docked but still that 720p tho, probably less)
3 -
Aw, I feel bad for her.
0 -
I honestly would've given her the 4k if I knew she was a Switch Nurse.
1 -
Would that affect it?
0 -
I believe that the Switch is 1080 but I'm not sure as I elected for the Lite (I play everything else on PC, don't need another console). The lite is 720, it's actually crystal clear and very easy to see. The game runs smooth as well except for just a wee bit of drag when scrolling over bloodweb items or when bathed in light during a match.
Seriously, I know that the idea of DBD on a little portable system may be laughable but it's a surprisingly strong little portable. It's got ports of L.A. Noire, Assassin's Creed 3 and 4, The WItcher, Skyrim, Mortal Kombat 11, Saints Row 3 and 4, etc. It doesn't have any serious trouble running DBD which is a five year-old game. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I can go from it to the PC or vice-versa (which I often do, because they haven't yet implemented cross-progression) without any major issues. The reduced framerate isn't a game destroyer by any means, nor are the reduced textures. They're mostly on secondary objects, obstacles and stuff like that. Character models look great. All the sounds are there. The menus are the same, the Rift is the same, the shop is the same, it plays the same. It's literally the exact same game but with a lower (yet still smooth) framerate and some lower-res textures here and there. I'm actually immensely pleased with it. If anyone wants to see for themselves and looks for it on Youtube, keep in mind that the game has been updated since most of those videos (which, in my opinion, already look great).
The one thing I don't like though? The stupid reversal of the A and B buttons from the 360 controller that I'm used to using on the PC.
Probably doesn't help much but here's a quick picture I took of my 4K to help illustrate what the Lite version looks like. It's a blurry picture of an in-game screenshot because the only way I'm aware of directly uploading in-game screenshots on the Lite is through facebook which I tend to avoid.

Commenting to bump this thread. We all deserve better optimization.
9 -
No no, I believe DBD is optimized on the switch to be lower than 720p (at least it looks lowered, not sure how it looks on the lite tho).
I have a Switch and a Switch Lite, tho I haven't tried DBD on the Lite. IMO I prefer the Lite, it's a lot more comfy.
Ironically enough I've gotten used to the A/B button swap, lol.
1 -
Do not bump the thread, as its against Forum rules and I don't want it being locked or removed.
But by all means, respond to people with your own opinions and encourage debate to keep it alive :)
7 -
I believe that was sarcaam on the OP's part
0 -
Did they even say anything about optimization for consoles recently?
Or they just expect us to buy new gen consoles an shut up?
5 -
Oh, it is? Sorry, I didn't know that.
Thanks for the info, I'll keep that in mind.
But yeah, it looks like optimization is still pretty bad all around.
4 -
So far as I have been able to tell, they have been radio silent for quite some time.
The last update we got was something along the lines of "we are working on it, no updates to report."
8 -
It really is, and I'm tired of it going unaddressed.
Yes, bumping is against Forum rules, but responding to comments isn't, so feel free to keep it alive by debating and/or responding to others, if you like.
4 -
It's been pretty bad recently.

Actually everything I've read is that the game runs BETTER in handheld mode / on the Lite. I've seen that reported with relative consistency, from both critics and players. I've also read that it's 720, my understanding is that all games on the Lite are 720 but I could be wrong. It's certainly above 480. Granted, everything I've read about the game on the Switch / Lite comes from the initial release of the game for that system, and most of those reviews were average. That's because the game was fully priced but didn't include all available DLC, which turned a lot of people off. Also, the aforementioned worse performance in docked mode. The game was also more imbalanced back then, which earned a lot of poor reviews from people who hadn't played the PC version.
I'm not saying that the game is perfect (though I'm honestly forced to shrug my shoulders and say that I can't report any major complaints, as much as I know doing so would make me sound more objective). I've never, not ever had any problem hitting my skill checks either (I mean, any more than I sometimes do on the PC. The errors are mine, not the system's. If anything I find the timing on the Lite to be a little more precise).
Still hate the damn button reversal though, lol.
