Why are totem placements so bad?

Was placing light totems next to a generator or on top of a hill considered a good idea or just "######### it, that'll do" kind of mentality?

It’s either that or behind a knocked over basket behind 20 walls like on lery’s

there is literally no middle ground with totems, it always spawn right on top of a hill in front of a gen where the survivors also spawn or its lerys and its inside one of the waste baskets.

I'd rather have to Totems actually being well hidden so the Killer can get actual use out of it. Instead of just putting it in some lazy ass spot and the Killer basically wasting a perk spot.

I was hoping the map 'improvements' would've fixed this issue. But I guess the improvement part was key word for add Breakable walls

Been trying to get value out of huntress lullaby / undying for so long now, it just doesn't happen. I think it would be a fair change for lullaby to only let survivors know that you have it after you get to 5 stacks, not after the first hook. Although even then, most totems are right on top of survivors spawn or near points of interest where you see them without even going out of your way to search.

The devs have a weird mentality

If the map is easy to navigate the totems are easy to find = double negative for killers

If the map is hard to navigate the totems are even MORE hard to find = double negative for survivors

You think it would be the other way around.

Like why are the totems hidden so well on Lery's? The map itself is difficult to traverse. Sometimes I see a lit totem while in chase but can never find it again.

I think the totems should be hidden their meant to be searched for. I have noticed on a few of the new maps there is the worst totem ever just sitting in the open on the hill. I guess that little spot in the rock was to well hidden despite it always being in the same place? idk for me I think of totems like easter eggs but sometimes you gotta find that rotten boi.

In truth. Have any of the maps actually been improved in any real way? Or is it just "Mah textures and lighting!"

No, they made massive improvements: they added breakable walls!

You should never have to play a match without such a fun core mechanic that everybody enjoys! Without those, it's basically just M1 Simulator 2016 but with a stupid monster that tries to push you away from the riveting gameplay the devs poured their hearts and souls into!

If I'm not mistaken the whole point of undying was to be a band-aid for poor totem spawns, but then they gutted undying without buffing the totem spawns. So you might as well never use totems, or if you do just expect that its, usually, very little pay off for a huge risk of not having a perk for 99% of a game.

Like I said, how hex totems work in general should just be reworked somehow.
