PC - Disconnect (& penalty) for no internet

Disconnect as Killer when swinging at survivors with a no internet error message. Internet (wired) connect was up and stable. Was given a match making ban.
Step 1 : Boot the game
Step 2 : Play as killer in a public match
Step 3 : In-game, play as normal. In this instance swing at a survivor healing a downed survivor.
Step 4 : Game lets me take three swings at the healer (who doesn't get downed) before DC error.
