PC- Ghost Face Stealth Mechanic still broken

Step 1 : Boot the game

Step 2 : Play against Ghost Face

Step 3 : Run behind him so closely that you could literally rub his back while he’s shrouded.

Step 4 : Hope you get lucky and that the game recognizes that you’re practically taking a piggy back ride on him and breaks him out of his shroud. Flip a coin for results.

Played as Kate, on Mother’s Dwelling, running Borrowed Time, Lithe, Spine Chill, and Iron Will. This experience is not unique to this load out.

Ghost face has 2 states, "Out of Sight" and "Discerned."

In order to reveal ghost face, you must put him in the "Discerned" state for 1.5 seconds.

The triggering condition for doing this is having at least 20% of ghostface's body in the center 26% of your screen. You must be cautious though, as your own survivors body often takes up a signfiicant portion of the center 26% of the screen, which can make this difficult to do. You can use a software crosshair to visualise the center of your screen better to understand why you are or are not revealing him. (if you're on PC, maybe on console with certain monitors/tvs with built in crosshair functionality)

It is also worth noting that there is a .3 second buffer to ghost face's state switching. This means that you have to look at him for .3 seconds before that 1.5 seconds starts ticking but you can technically stop looking during the last .3 seconds of the reveal, which ,combined with latency, is why you often can get revealed around corners as ghostface.

Of course none of this is an excuse for ghostface reveals mechanic being so janky and there is a great deal the devs could do to improve it, like make it to where your survivors body doesn't block the detection area or offset the detection area upwards so you do it with the top of the screen, but understanding how it works can make him less frustrating to deal with.

I was staring at him for over 5 seconds multiple times with no obstructions, both near and far, I do understand how the reveal mechanic "works" and the "discern" state has the audio cue, and yet, like my original post states, it is a coin flip as to whether or not the game will recognize it or not. I was chasing him in a straight line as he chased my teammate with GF dead center of my screen for multiple seconds, and it did not matter.

I understand you're trying to help explain the situation, but I promise you, this issue is not due to a lack of understanding of the mechanic on my part.

This just happened to me on autohaven. Literally NOTHING in a 10 meter radius, not even grass (Autohaven) and he stalked me for 3 seconds while i looked straight at him. Ghostface is always a little broken, but this patch broke him. This isn't a survivor salt bug report where I go "waaaaaaaaaaaaaa i looked at him a nanosecond why didnt it reveal" , ghostface stalking is legit broken right now. I suspect it has something to do with ping.
