For both the gnome event and the previous anniversary halo event, survivors had to find the item and then also survive the trial. Meanwhile, killers only have to find the item and finish the trial (as in, not DC); there's no further requirement for them.
I think it would be fairer to either require the killers to at least have a certain amount of sacrificed survivors, or to allow the survivor to keep the item even if they don't escape.
