Dead by Rework Series: Trapper

Trapper, one of the original three Killers that was put into the game, and the most iconic non-licensed Killer in the game due to being its poster boy. Over the years, Dead by Daylight has changed, but Trapper has remained almost relatively the same; he's always been the slow Killer with time needed to set up his traps and everything.

But in my series of suggestions for Killer reworks, which I dub "Dead by Rework", I will start off by taking a look at Trapper and seeing what could be done to make him both fit within the modern scope of Dead by Daylight, while retaining his original feel and unique playstyle.

Buckle up, because this will be one helluva show.

Trapper

Bear Trap

  • Buff: Setting time is reduced to 1 second (from 1.5 seconds)
    • Buff: Total time to set up traps is reduced to 2 seconds (from 2.5 seconds)
  • Buff: Bear Trap base capacity is increased to 3 traps (from 1)
    • Buff: Trapper will always start the match with 3 traps.
  • Indirect Buff: Trapper's trap count on the map is increased to 7 traps (from 5)
  • Buff: Bear Traps are now slightly bigger in size.

Thrown Bear Trap

  • Trapper can now throw his Bear Traps.
  • When throwing a Bear Trap, it will stay shut for a short period of time before opening up automatically.
    • The base amount of time that a Bear Trap will activate when thrown is 3 seconds.
  • Thrown Bear Traps will bounce off of walls, pallets, windows and other objects, so as to not get stuck.
    • They will also bounce off of Survivors and Trapper, which will cause a brief, but noticeable grunt to come off of them once it hits them.
  • Thrown Bear Traps have a maximum throwing range of 8 meters.
  • Preparing to throw a Bear Trap will reduce Trapper's movement speed to 105%.
  • Bear Traps will have an indicator that extends to the maximum amount of distance you can throw them.
  • The amount of time it takes to throw a bear trap and get out of the throwing animation is a total of 1.2 seconds.

Add-Ons

Any changes will be highlighted in bold text.

Trapper Gloves

  • Slightly increases Bear Trap setting speed.
  • Slightly increases Bear Trap throwing distance.

Strong Coil Spring

  • Slightly decreases Bear Trap disarm speed.
  • Slightly decreases Thrown Bear Trap arming speed.

4-Coil Spring

  • Moderately decreases Bear Trap disarm speed.
  • Moderately decreases Thrown Bear Trap arming speed.

Setting Tools

  • Considerably increases Bear Trap setting speed.
  • Moderately increases Bear Trap escape and rescue speed.
  • Moderately increases Bear Trap throwing distance.

Secondary Coil

  • Considerably decreases Bear Trap disarm speed.
  • Considerably decreases Thrown Bear Trap arming speed.

Oily Coil

  • Tremendously decreases Bear Trap disarm speed.
  • Tremendously decreases Thrown Bear Trap arming speed.

Iridescent Stone

(Bear trap go bonk.)

  • Every 30 seconds, a randomly chosen disarmed Bear Trap is automatically set and armed.
  • Every thrown Bear Trap will now put the Survivor in the Injured State if it hits them.
  • Considerably increases Bear Trap throwing distance.

With these changes and this rework, this would complete Trapper as a Killer. It would affect a lot on how you play the game, and would take getting used to, but this new Trapper retains the old feel of the original Killer and would ultimately bring him up to speed with the rest of the original cast of Killers.

Trapper is a character that everyone loves (even for the wrong reasons; I see some of you), so him not being updated in the current day with a more modernized kit is doing him a disservice. This rework would be doing him justice by giving him something to make him feel faster, but not taking away the core of what he is at the end of the day.

He won't become something super powerful, but he will at least be with everyone else in terms of the current state of the game.

What do you think, though? Would you prefer this Trapper? Would you rather keep the old Trapper? I'd like to hear your thoughts down below.

Could you guys seriously imagine how fun it'd be to have the Bear Trap go bonk on a survivor?

So much time put into a forum post just to go unnoticed by the devs... Or even if they read it they will ignore it. You are not the first one to come up with a Trapper rework suggestion. Famous DBD streamers were suggesting reworks for years and almost nothing was done. So you think your forum post will change things? No, it won't.

Hey, even if it goes unnoticed by them...

I still have this post (the OP) to fall back on for ideas in the future. 😉

Honestly I really think Trapper should just start with all traps at the cost of basekit setting time.
