Ideas For Predator Changes

Hello Reader! I’m just another DBD player who spends too much time thinking about this game. Here are my opinions on the perk Predator.

The one major issue I have with the perk Predator is that it seems to be designed as a perk that is primarily used to teach new Killer players how to follow Scratch Marks in chase. While this in of itself isn’t a bad idea, the perk’s effect can actually be a hinderance at higher levels of play. As of the creation of this post, Predator makes the Scratch Marks left by Survivors spawn slightly/moderately/considerably closer together. This can make Scratch Marks very difficult to see at a distance, which is one of the ways that more experienced Killers can locate Survivors and initiate chase. The following proposed changes seek to add tracking effects to the perk Predator that can be useful at all levels of play. Note: not all of the changes listed need to be added together, but are included as options to add to or replace the current effect of Predator.

1.    The sounds of Survivor’s footsteps are louder at all times

a.     For example: Footsteps are 30%/40%/50% louder

2.    Walking Survivors leave Scratch Marks that are Considerably/Moderately/Slightly closer together than Scratch Marks left when running

3.    Scratch Marks left by running Survivors will form Arrows pointing in the direction the Survivor was moving when they left the Scratch Mark. Scratch Marks last 1/2/3 secs longer

a.     For example: instead of Scratch Marks forming repeated crisscrossed lines like “XXXX,” Scratch Marks will form directional arrows like “>>>>”

The first change would be the simplest to implement, as the effect is ripped straight from the Nightmare’s Swing Chains Add-On and turned into a Perk. It would give the Killer the ability to judge the location of moving Survivors outside of their LoS if they are in close enough proximity. Survivors who are aware of the normal sound of footsteps would immediately be able to tell if the Killer was running Predator due to the audible volume increase, much like how Stridor works.

The second change would change Predator the least, by simply altering what triggers the special Scratch Marks. This variation of the Perk would make it that Survivors who stop running and start walking will continue to leave a bright red trail behind them. Unless the Survivor is running Fixated, they will be unable to know the Killer is running Predator. However, if a Survivor suspects Predator, they can opt to crouch walk instead, as this option would not create Scratch Marks; this would make it so that the Survivor would have to plan out their slower movements ahead of time. I have to admit that this change would be really oppressive on certain Killers like the Spirit though…

The third change is arguably the most powerful. Killers would immediately be able to discern the direction that a Survivor is or has been running and can use that information to predict the route the Survivor is taking and cut them off. Again, if a Survivor is not running Fixated, they will be none the wiser. However, if a Survivor suspects their Scratch Marks are giving them away, they can backtrack the way they came or run around in place to “jumble up” the arrows, making it harder to discern a single direction taken. This change would involve the creation of a new Scratch Mark pattern that isn’t currently in the game though, so it might be asking for too much.

But what do you think? Are these ideas good or trash?
