How can we be more diverse in dbd after the LGBTQIA2S+ character
Comments

You called Orion and I too, we're practically celebrities 💅

DBD has great diversity!
There are characters from all walks of life. Young, old, male, female, race, different jobs, etc. I look forward to lgbtq characters being added ^^
If I could pick I would like to see more older characters, specifically women. We have Bill and Ash and thats great, but where are the old ladies at?

You can't really make someone LGBTQ+ On here...
Imagine all the hate you'd get for killing just ONE LGBTQ+ Character...
I mean. go look what happened with the pride charm...
2 -
So do you think BHVR was wrong when the lore specifically mention's Felix's girlfriend and Yun Jin's boyfriend, or is it only unnecessary if it's a same sex couple?
4 -
Yeah everyone on twitter and the forums made a bigger deal than it was as an excuse to continue their thinly-veiled homophobia
What an absolute tragedy.
6 -
Another thread for the homophobes to fly in yay
3 -
I hate threads like this because it's so hard ignoring all the homophobes
4 -
that's why i believe that... adding one would lead people to either spare said character during pride month.
Or straight up boolie em,

It wouldn't be something new, take a look at Yui and Zarina's lore, they were great stories and adressed politics.
4 -
Don't forget Jane's archive too
2 -
I have seen killers sparing specific survivors (one let me go just because I am a Kate) and killers targeting specific survivors or survivors that have on common trait.
why would LGBTQ+ be a reason for exclusion but other traits or anything not?
4 -
Because gay bad me no like gay >:(
4 -
Adding diverse characters is great. Lore has 0 effect on gameplay, just makes some players happy to get some representation. Don't need representation? Good for you, but others do and it won't hurt the game to give it to them.
I do find it funny that reasons for not putting gay character is because "politics/relationships don't belong" when multiple characters already had relationships/politics in their lore and no one said a word. Also funny that those that "don't care" pop up on every lgbt+ posting arguing against it while saying they don't care. 😂
5 -
I don't get why we NEED a gay or trans character like I'm gay and I wanna be seen as a normal person I don't want a 'gay character'
4 -
I don't particularly care and wouldn't mind but-
2 -
Do we need more?
1 -
Yes
4 -
That’s exactly why we need to end the explicit exclusion.
why should there be no gay or trans characters when we have already such a diverse cast? The devs want to include LGBTQ+ chars as well. And just looking at them tells me they are genuine about it, they don’t seem like the guys that want to exclude specific characters just because of their sexuality.
the former reason was no sexuality at all, but they didn’t hold their word - unintentionally. But their way of incorporation lore and writing have changed drastically since release either way.

I for one would actually love this:
Take a second to just imagine an 80 year old vaulting windows and using sprint burst as fast as any other Survivor.
That'd be sick.

Like i said, i dont have a problem with this stuff. I also dont have a problem if they add autistic character or anything like that.
What i meant is its not neccesary to add this stuff JUST to ,,spread awareness"
They should just do it like they said. They will add such character/s but its will just do it as a part of their story and its not meant to he the focus of the chapter. Thats what i meant.
1 -
Eh I mean having an lgbt or autistic character doesn't really matter to me. I've never really cared about diversity in the games I play.

I'd like to see more non-human representation.
Where's my cyborg, @MandyTalk ?! 🤖

Its obvious everyone doesn't like this idea and never has. Doing these meaningless things only makes the LGBT look worse and it always feels pushy and seeing the people they promote something tells me this character is gonna be just one big cluster of stereotypes.
1 -
Yeah but it’s also obvious why people don’t like this: they don’t see LGBTQ+ people as normal people.
representation helps to normalize it, so that maybe one day people actually won’t mind if there are LGBTQ+ people or not.
and for the stereotypes: the devs are working with GaymerX to avoid harmful stereotyping.
5 -
Yes, MiladyConfetti, amazing Ace representation is just one walking stereotype right?
2 -
Nothing happened with the pride charm. You people need to stop making stuff up to make the pride charm look bad.
6 -
Then blame those people that are making you feel this way and not those that try to normalize this topic.
diverse representation can help. Of course one character in one Videogame won’t make it or break it. But it is really not as harmful if done right.

Looked up GaymerX and they seem like the exact reason we have these problems in the first place. And maybe people don't view as normal because we ourselves don't view the community as normal and treat it like some baby that needs everything it asks for? The fact the community is screaming so loud and DEMANDING they add in 'representation' shows that they view themselves as not normal and a special case. Acting normal would be playing the game and appreciating the characters not shouting at everyone because they don't have a gay character yet. And considering they're working with possibly the worst people imaginable to work with for this subject I can't imagine a single good thing ever coming from this.

pretty sure its closer Asperger

Did you not read my post?
I said look what happened with the Pride charm..
Alot of people saying that they got tunneled just because they have the "Pride" Charm on..
0 -
Nevermind I checked she is not the person but I am blocked by her lol
0 -
Those people shouldn't be trusted without proof. BHVR would only take action with evidence. I wouldn't worry about people getting banned or anything for tunneling an LGBT character in a normal game.
4 -
When people act "normal", nothing happens. If no-one had ever asked for representation, the entire western media would consist entirely of cis straight white guys, with a sprinkling of racist, sexist, homophobic characatures. Because of that, they would only really be hiring and giving credit to, you guessed it, cis straight white guys, becuase the media tells them it's okay, which humans believe because stories are ridiculously important to our species.
Representation leads to normalisation, it doesn't happen the other way around.
Edit: Almost forgot, those cis striaght white guys would also have to be tough as nails and hard as old boot leather, because that's guy culture for you. No thoughtful, sensitive men allowed.

I would something similar to an exo from d2, they would become my next main so quick

Okay that was back then this is now. In the west LGBT is hugely accepted, we have our rights we won the battle why do we still need to push everything in front of people? Its literally what's making people hate us again. LGBT acceptance rates are dropping and if you ask most 'homophobic' people its because of things like this. Its cause pride is constantly shoved down everyones throats and its annoying.
6 -
Actually, that's not true of anywhere but major cities, and even then they're not these magical places of equality. There's this idea going around that LGBT+ people are accepted and treated well and equally, but it's not how things happen in reality. Same as race issues, same as sexism. It's just not true and work needs to be done.
For example, a lack of visible trans people has left people with insane ideas. I know of many trans women that have to dress and act like drag queens in order for doctors and psychologists to take them "seriously". Adding trans characters would help show that this is absolutely BS.
7 -
If the devs claim to give a crap about diversity then yes, we need autistic survivors. Gay people in this thread are saying that since straight people exist in the game then gay people should as well. Well, neurotypicals exist in this game so ummm... Yea... Same logic.
And don't even mention Leatherface. Leatherface is an insanely bigoted portrayal of autistic people. I don't even know where to begin with how offensive this character is.
3 -
If lgbt is hugely accepted in the west let me know why conversion therapy is still legal in most Western countries. Tell me why discrimination is still incredibly high, especially against lgbt bipoc, tell me why trans hatecrimes are also astronomically high. Tell me why there's still serious inequality and why celebrating the fact that we are different - and still deserve equality - gets the homophobes all riled up because God forbid they not be at the front and centre of something for once.
Representation is incredibly important. Also, if you'll notice, not many people were asking (as you say, demanding) for an lgbt+ character until the devs themselves announced they'd add one.

I'm saying they should spend their time actually improving the game instead of adding gay people, since adding gay people really doesn't benefit the game as much as fixing the new map would.
1 -
And both the lore team and gameplay teams are two completely seperate ones who's decisions do not really impact the decisions of the other so we can have both :D
3 -
The developer in me cringes so hard whenever I see someone trying to explain that (because it's so true). Personally, I wouldn't have a clue how to even begin with art (except writing), the only thing I ever did in that department was rigging, rough 3d animation and basic 3d asset creation, which I sucked at. Gameplay, programming and level design were what I studied.
3 -
Idk what's so complex about the idea that two seperate departments can work on two seperate things seperately but apparently its a foreign concept?
2 -
Probably best to keep making interesting characters with ambiguous personal tastes. Good design and backstory are worth far more than tokenism. Let players impart themselves on the unspoken aspects.
2 -
You know what?
from what you have written here, you seem like the person that tries to make the LGBTQ+ community look bad.
there isn’t a huge demand or crying. People are just asking for normal representation and equal treatment. And they started to ask only after BHVR already promised LGBTQ+ inclusion. Before that I have rarely seen anyone asking for it. Don’t judge the community by the bad apples.
And we are not in a place or time were being LGBTQ+ is widely accepted. You have said yourself how you get treated. And there are many many people in the west that have worse experience than you.
no one starts hating LGBTQ+ people because of representation. Those people already would hate LGBTQ+ people but are using representation as an excuse. If there was no representation, people would still completely think in the most cliche stereotypes.
5 -
Completely agreed!
the devs really shouldn’t be working on creating a backstory for a character that’s LGBTQ+!
luckily, as was stated by many already, there is no reason to believe they are.
1 -
I'm supposed to feel represented in a video game? I don't want to be represented in a video game. I just want video games to be fun and give me an escape from reality, not remind me of it.
4 -
I think the next logical step would be to add an LGBTQ+ Killer.
If it is about representation then not only survivors should get it but also Killers. This would not feel right for me.
Also the question is how much representation do we want in a horror game. Because if there is representation then it will happen on both sides. We already saw how the topic if Leatherface counts (or if he has authism) can heat the flames. Adding a Killer like this is most likely to spark even more conflict as the Killer is the bad one, the one who moris and commits attrociets (Just please do not add a Killer who commits his attrociets because of this, let that Killer have a whole different motivation). However it would be nessecary as both sides should be included in the representation.
However the idea to include characters like this on both sides is important. Representation means normalization and thus adding a LGBTQ+ character only to one side would not be "normal" in the entities realm. If a person fits the entities vision of a Killer / survivor the entity will reach out for that person without any regard for their identity.
The next step would be to release a Tome about those characters, telling their tales.
3 -
There are tens of thousands of players, though. You're not the only person playing this. Furthermore, if you didn't want games to remind you of reality, you wouldn't play one with human characters and licensed content (which is literally characters from well-known, real-life franchises).
5 -
Uhhh....how exactly do you "represent autism and schizophrenia" ? I didn't know Autism had a look....I mean its on a spectrum...and if you asked me we already have an autistic character by the name of David....
1 -
I VERY much want to see the source on this, because the general US public and medical field has zero clue what Autism actually is and basically calls anything neurodivergent 'Autism'.
